Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- We are at the Douglas County Historical Society.
We have our Pride exhibit up right now and it'll be open all of the month of September.
The initial starting was getting the Wisconsin Historical Society's traveling exhibit, and from that we decided to build our own Pride collection.
When we found out we didn't have a lot of items here, we went out into the community to look for them.
- I opened The Main Club in Superior in 1983, but I live in Duluth, so I consider myself bi-statal.
I brought buttons from the different years of Pride, and Pride guides, and some articles from some magazines, and different magazines too.
When the AIDS crisis happened, a lot of our history was lost so it's important that we keep that and donate it to these places where it'll last forever.
So a college student in 20 years may wanna know what it was like being a gay person, and we need to have places where that information is stored.
- If we don't preserve them it's hard for people in the present and in the future to look back and find themselves in the histories that we share.
