- Pretty sure I played on that sidewalk.
- I've certainly slept on it.
- Yeah.
I mean, you know.

- 2020.
- Four years.
- Yeah, four years.
- Four years.
- I mean, we'd all known of each other's various projects for a while now and everything kind of ground to a halt during the pandemic.
We just had time on our hands and needed to do something creative with it so we wouldn't go crazy.
We finally had time to do it, so we set it up and within 15 minutes of that jam session we were looking at each other going, all right, so when do we record the, the new album?
It started the best project I've ever gotten to be a part of.
- It's really special, guys.
We're pretty excited to have y'all on.

- Albuquerque.
- Oh, yeah.
- From Idaho originally.
And I've been here about half my life now.
- Well, I'm originally from New York, New Jersey and then I went to high school here.
- I'm from Texas originally, but after college I came out here, followed my wife out here.
- I like to say I was, I was born in Tennessee, raised in the Midwest and made in New Mexico.
- Yeah.
♪ Godamnit, Daniel ♪ ♪ Don't you think we've all had days ♪ ♪ Like these ♪ ♪ Where Babylon goes and breaks your heart ♪ ♪ And brings you to your knees ♪ ♪ But don't you think the cracks that are forming ♪ ♪ Are leaving room to fill with gold?
♪ ♪ We always thought we'd change the world ♪ ♪ Now I guess we'll never know ♪ - You know, with your guys' roots in Americana and country and rock, did you find some inspiration in New Mexico?
- There's always something to be able to use from this place for inspiration.
A sunset, seeing the balloons out, you know, in the mesa.
Reading about anything that's happened here in the last couple hundred years and like, it's a very inspirational place.
That's why so many artists come here.
- Yeah.

So he's been hanging out with us ever since.

It's a little ghost town.
There's like less than a hundred people that live there.
My imagination was running wild.
My mom is a screenplay writer and a poet and then my dad is a painter.
We were definitely all able to like be ourselves.
I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I'm very, very grateful I grew up in that way.
♪ I love your insecurity ♪ ♪ For you know me like ♪ ♪ No other ♪ ♪ No other ♪ - Did I read that you went to theater school?
- I sure did.
- I went to theater school.
- Oh, that's why we get along.
That's why we get along.
You know, I was definitely before I like really got into music, I was afraid to like be myself on stage and like not be a character.
But then I kind of just like took what I learned in theater, which was just like, you can still like be like one with the audience even like with yourself.
And I was like, yeah, there's nothing to really be afraid of.
Like it's all in my mind.
♪ I love you so deeply ♪ ♪ Time to let me be ♪ ♪ My skin needs to breathe ♪ - For me, every time I've seen a show where the performer was very expressive and like it was more than just a song, it always like stuck with me.
- Yeah.
- Like David Bowie is such a big inspiration obviously to everyone, right.
- Any other inspirations?
- Radiohead I think is... - Ooh.
- Yeah.
Hands up.
(vocalizing) - What I love about them is like a lot of the stuff is like very dark, but it's not.
It's like not a downer.
That's what I really try to do.
Like I don't wanna be a downer, but I wanna like honor that dark side of life.
- Embrace it.

- Correct.

And like after everything I've been through, I still like committed to myself.
And so I think she would just say thank you, I guess.
