- Did you know that you can register to vote on Election Day?
Elaine Clark with KUER, Utah's NPR station, is here in the studio to tell us all about that and more as we approach the 2026 midterm elections.
Welcome, Elaine.
- Hi, Liz, thanks for having me.
- Thank you so much for being here.
I love to hear about this project that you've partnered with multiple news partners to get the word out about this upcoming election.
- Yeah, we're partnering with PBS Utah and with Utah News Dispatch on a project we're calling We Vote Utah.
And it's an opportunity for our newsrooms to share reporting resources, but also produce that for voters in various places.
We've got videos from PBS Utah, audio storytelling, podcasts from KUER, and of course, written stories from Utah News Dispatch and all of the partners.
- Speaking of which, I really love the State Street podcast because it really makes it digestible and helps people understand what's going on, as well as pulling back the curtain on this whole process.
- Yeah, I was pretty excited about this season.
We kind of pulled back the curtain on what's happening with elections, particularly proud of the tour that we took of the Davis County Voting Center to really look at, what does security look like for voting and what happens to your ballot after it arrives?
What is the process that it goes through?
And it's really revealing to look at all the security measures that are in place.
- Yeah, answering those questions that voters and constituents have these days about the election process, and also providing some resources as well, right?
- Yeah, if you go to KUER's website, we have a page up that is just all the basics, like what do you need to know?
What are the deadlines?
You know, mail-in ballots must be in by eight o'clock, so don't wait too late to mail them.
And if you're a little nervous about it, drop them off at a ballot box or even take them to a polling station on election day.
- Yeah, one of those dates was October 22nd, right, or 27th, right?
October 27th.
Let me make sure I get that straight.
- October 27th was the last day to ask for a mail-in ballot.
So if you don't have one, you can still go on election day, whether you're registered or not, just make sure you take two forms of ID to show that you're eligible.
- All right, thank you so much for stopping by.
If you would like to learn more about KUER's voter resources, you can head online, just go to KUER.org for more detail.
That's the 2026 midterm election coverage.
