- Four years ago, president and CEO John Morris and myself visited New York City and were invited to meet with the CEO and the chief curator of the September 11 Museum and Memorial in New York.
Elizabeth Hillman is the president and CEO, and chief curator Jan Ramirez, who is the only chief curator that the museum has ever had.
So for 25 years, she herself has stewarded all those stories and content.
We resolved that day to work together somehow.
And over four years time, we have kind of negotiated back and forth on how an exhibition in the heartland could look, what it could be.
And they allowed us eventually to actually go into their vaults, into their storage, and see what has never been seen before publicly and allowed us to curate from that collection to create the story.
That has never happened before.
They have lent to other museums objects and pre-curated small exhibits, but they've never allowed a museum to curate from their collection.
