What do you wanna be when you grow up?
Where are you going to school?
Where are you going to college?
What are you gonna major in?
What are you gonna do with your life and why haven't you figured it out yet?
Why haven't you figured it out?
Why?
Don't you get tired of all of these questions and the stresses our parents and caregivers put on us and the stresses that we put on ourselves about growing up and college and all of these big decisions we have coming up?
But what about our hopes and dreams that coincide with career readiness?
What about maintaining positive mental health to block out the naysayers?
You wanna know what it's like to be an entrepreneur in the film industry?
Yeah, me too.
(paper crumpling) (light synthesizer music) (pencil scribbling) (page ripping) - [Tiana] My name is Tiana and I'm in college.
You are a woman of many talents but who would you say Chatejah George is?
- I would say Chetejah George is just a girl with a dream.
(upbeat funky music) - I will say that you are the youngest black female film studio owner (Chetejah laughing) in the state of Georgia.
- In the world.
- In the World.
- In the whole entire world, yeah.
- One thing that was super interesting about your early career was you rapping and how- - Oh, Lord.
(both laughing) - And how much like, anti-bullying was a part of your advocacy work.
Can you talk a little bit about why that is so important to you?
- [Chetejah] During that time I was getting bullied a lot on social media and I would just get criticized a lot for what I was doing.
I was, I wanna say like 15, 16, and I wanted to speak out about it and let kids know they're not alone.
If you ever get bullied, you should talk to somebody, because bullying is very serious.
- So tell me about your start in the entertainment industry.
- I was on set and I just fell in love with it.
I just love the beauty in the process of filmmaking.
- I mean, you're so focused, you've been able to accomplish so much so early on.
Opening a film studio is not easy.
I can imagine.
- It's not easy.
I had a lot of support.
I had a lot of help along the way from the city, from the state of Georgia.
A lot of film commissioners helped me.
It was something that I felt in my heart, "You need to do this."
(gentle synthesizer music) - [Tiana] When you're not at the film studio, what are some self-care techniques?
- So, cooking helps me escape from everything.
Working out.
I like to read and I like to meditate.
It sounds boring, but when your mind is like thinking about a whole bunch of different things, when you actually sit and meditate, it helps calm your mind.
I've crashed a couple of times, like I'm feelin' a crash now.
(both chuckling) I had to have an energy drink, a coffee.
I have to take time for myself, because when I don't I'm grumpy, I'm rude.
I don't know how to make rational decisions, so I have to sometimes step back so I can get a clear mind.
So, I have to take, you know, mental health days, self-care days, - Yes.
- to get myself back.
- One thing that I love is the female entrepreneur, the women empowerment.
How do you feel being in such a prominent place for young women to look up to?
- I think we need more positive women to look up to so that we can just keep influencing the world.
- What would you say to young aspiring filmmakers or actors to how to pursue their dreams?
- Write your goals down.
Know that nothing happens overnight, and it's okay to fail or fall, or get behind.
That's normal.
Struggles are normal.
When we look at people that are successful on social media we just see their highs.
No one sees the struggles that people go through, and I think the youth should know that there's gonna be hard times, struggles.
You're gonna go through stuff, you're gonna get a lot of nos.
And I think if we teach that more and show that more, they won't be afraid when they go through it.
- You are like one of the biggest stories of hope in the state of Georgia.
So, what does hope mean to you?
- Hope means having trust in the process.
It means that the impossible can happen.
(paper crumpling) (gentle synthesizer music) - Hey guys, it's Hope Givers reporter, Dottie, and I'm here at prom and today's word on the street is "confidence."
And what better place to talk about confidence than at the prom?
Okay, I am here with- - Andrew Norton.
- How do you show confidence?
Through my clothes, through the way I walk around, through how I play baseball, through my face, through everything.
- So, you feel like you are a confident person?
- I am a very confident person.
- I'm here with- - Samaje.
- How do you show confidence?
- I just don't care about what people think about me.
Can't think too much about it.
- So, you feel like you are a confident person?
- A little bit.
- So, what does confidence mean to you?
- Being yourself, being out and open just in front of people that you don't know, you know?
- I'm here with- - Julistia.
- How do you show confidence?
- Just be yourself.
Don't let other people change you based on how popular or how less fortunate you are.
You're you.
You're you.
Confidence is just believe in yourself, trust yourself, love yourself.
- I'm here with- - Dylan.
- What does confidence look like for you?
- To be able to be yourself and just strut your stuff.
- So, would you say you're a confident person?
- Yeah.
- I'm here with- - Adeline.
- And- - Jayle.
- What does confidence look like for you?
- A nice strut down the hall or a nice strut when you walk through the door.
- Oh, confidence is when you just walk in there, no, you realize, so just look at me, I'm everything, you bet.
- So, you would say you're a confident person?
- I'm very confident.
- Would you say you're a confident person?
- Yes, ma'am.
- Okay, so this has been Hope Givers reporter, Dottie.
- Well wait, but before we go, we have one more interview.
- Hey, I am here with- - Kingston Riles.
- What does confidence look like for you?
- Just be yourself without worrying what other people have to think about it.
- Would you say you're a confident person?
- I'd have to say I'm pretty confident.
- I would have to agree with that.
We're gonna have to head in.
See you in the next one.
(paper crumpling) (light band music) (paper crumpling) - Hey, we kinda turned the loft into a spa today so we can do some skincare, self-care with my friend Kadalia.
- Hey, y'all.
- Can you tell us about how this helps you do self-care?
- So, this helps me do self-care in the best way possible.
Like, I don't know if I wouldn't feel great on the inside if I didn't feel good on the outside.
- Mm.
- So, with all these products and the mask - Oh, the mask.
and everything like that, it just makes me feel beautiful.
So, when I feel good, you look good.
So.
- You have all these skincare products, so- - I do.
- we're actually gonna get back to our spa day, wipe off this beautiful mask and we'll see y'all later.
But try it at home, Hope Givers.
See y'all next time.
- Bye.
(paper crumpling) - This week's Youth Across America filmmaker is Alex Davis from Phoenix, Arizona, With his short film, "There Is Only One Alex Davis."
(funky introductory music) (tense synthesizer music) - All right, let's do this one more time.
My name is Alex Davis.
I'm a junior, 17 years of age, and I have a conundrum.
The classic work-life balance struggle, as it were.
Look, no one said it'd be easy, but this is hard.
Very, very hard.
(drum music) Some days I just want to quit.
Can't take the emotional gut punches life keeps throwing at me, but I gotta keep going for the people who invest their love and support in me and for myself.
After all, there's only one Alex Davis, and you're looking at him.
(paper crumpling) (upbeat band music) - Chetejah is an absolute inspiration as the youngest black female studio owner, not in Georgia, but the world.
She puts a lot of intention and emphasis on taking self-care days and is very open about how she may not make good decisions, or be as nice of a person if she doesn't take care of her mental health.
It's become kind of a term that we throw around easily, "You know, I need a mental health day."
We actually do need it in order to be our best selves and function at a level where we're coming closer and closer to our highest potential.
We often will, talk about going to the gym and working out and walking and how many steps we take and we don't talk about how much we're doing to care for our mind, which really directs everything else.
What I love about the prom video is everyone's confidence.
There's so much value in being able to access confidence and it's so important to know that that is not a fixed quality or characteristic in a person, whether you're a teenager or an adult.
Confidence can go up, it can go down.
It's something that can be worked on and it can definitely be increased by using affirmations, as we saw in another episode.
It can be increased by participating in a hobby and getting out of your head.
So much of our insecurities and our hangups come from spending too much time living in our heads instead of in the world.
And just getting engaged, and connecting with a person, with a friend, with a hobby.
We often feel like we have to be very productive and multitask and do, and do and do, but at the end of the day, we're not human doings, we're human beings.
You can't be confident unless you sit with yourself and know who you are.
And that's ultimately gonna be your secret weapon as you navigate the world.
(paper crumpling) - [Tiana] Do you know someone we should highlight?
Send us your suggestions and keep holding on.
(pencil scribbling) (page ripping) - Lin-Manuel Miranda says, "I am the one thing in life I can control.
I am unique.
I am an original."
From Lin creating his own show to Chetejah opening her own film studio, there is nothing you can't do if you believe in yourself.
In the loft today we have Zoe Bayani performing her new hit single, "Contemplate."
