Globe trotting composer and classical pianist Hsia-Jung Chang has come home to to perform a special program she calls "Keys to Happiness".
It's all coming up next on Inlan Sessions.
Welcome to Keys to Happiness, a program about music and the pursuit of happiness.
I am Hsia-Jung Chang, composer and pianist.
I'll be playing for you music I composed as well as music by C Debussy, Johann Sebastian Bach, Frederic Chopin and John Philip Sousa.
The first key to happiness is appreciation, the ability to recognize and ack something that is good in one's "The Girl With The Flaxen Hair" Debussy is a musical expression of deep appreciation.
Appreciation can lead to devotion, vowing to give your best effort to someone or something.
Johann Sebastian Bach was devote God and to the art of music.
Another key to happiness is communing wi going outside and talking to trees, birds, squ I once asked a butterfly what it all meant.
Here's what the butterfly said.
Exercise and meditation are both keys to leaving the mundane behind and getting back in touch with the original you.
Taiji is moving meditation, which I've practiced since I was I've translated the sensations of practicing Taiji into music in this piece.
Drunk on Taiji.
Catharsis.
Are we meant to be happy, 24/7?
In Chopin's time all emotions we honored.
Dancing joyfully, Chopin was inspired to write this vivacious and delightful wa after seeing a small dog turn an while chasing its own tail.
Facing one's fears creatively.
Chopin composed the Prelude in D while waiting for his family to return from their outing.
It started to storm outside and worried about them so much that he had a hallucinat about the raindrops accumulating into a giant lake of tears in which he was slowly sinking.
Just then his family returned and all was well again.
Liberty, living in a place where the pursuit of hap is considered an unalienable right.
When I first arrived here in 197 with my family, the United States was a musical melting pot.
In this reinterpretation of the and Stripes Forever, I've woven into John Philip Sousa's beloved march, some of the many styles of music I heard during those early years.
I hope you've enjoyed some of my to happiness.
Until next time, happy pursuing.
