On August 9, 1998, Gutzon Borglum’s dream of a Hall of Records at Mount Rushmore was completed when a repository of records was placed on the floor of the hall entry. This repository consists of a teakwood box inside a titanium vault covered by a granite capstone. Borglum's daughter Mary Ellis attended the event and spoke on the moment.
