(bright lively music) - Immigrant's Daughter Theatre is presenting "Worship" by Morag Shepherd, an intimate theatre experience for 25 audience members at a time.
It explores a devotion that goes too far.
And here to tell us more about the production is Ariana Farber and Nick Mathews.
Welcome, both.
So why don't you start, Ariana, since you're the founder of the company, why did you found this company and what's your mission?
- Well the company was founded by myself and Morag Shepherd, who is a very prolific playwright in Salt Lake City.
And we really did this in attempt to produce our own work.
In a creative and interesting way, what we do is, we find site-specific places to produce the work and we produce new work in those places.
- Okay, great.
And I know this work, "Worship," I mean, how you talk about it, Nick?
Because you're the star.
So tell us what is the "Worship" about?
- "Worship" is about a BYU professor who claims to have visions that he feels makes him more special than other men in the church.
And "Worship" is about what happens when devotion, shame, self-loathing go a little too far.
The play is basically four vignettes of our character, Mason, the BYU professor, and the women in his life.
- Okay, so there are three women in your life who are in this as well.
Great!
And talk about why this show is relevant in this year.
- Well, we're still in the wake of Me Too.
And our play is about the abuse of power, the abuse of position, and it's also relevant today.
People are still coming out of high-demand religions and people wrestle with things a little more openly these days.
Depression, shame, they're more open about it.
So I think it'll resonate with people, anyone who's ever wrestled with that.
- Okay, great, great!
And where is this one, Ariana?
- We're going to be doing it at the Arts Hub downtown.
It's in a different found space.
So very unique, intimate, as you said, experience.
- Awright.
- Please come.
- Great!
It sounds great.
And thank you so much, both of you for coming and talking about, thank you.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
