Apostle Islands Bird Survey

Special | 9m 49s

Bird survey held every five years on the Apostle Islands & the shoreline of Lake Superior.

Every five years researchers from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Wisconsin DNR, National Park Service & Bad River Indian Tribe join forces. One by one, they count a special group of birds on Lake Superior. Colonial water birds are special because they nest in colonies that they return to every year. The change in the number of birds serves as an indicator of the changes in the environment.
