The UW Madison Arboretum is working to control and clean up polluted storm water runoff.
The University Arboretum in Madison is fighting a downhill battle. The DNR requires that this storm water be cleaned up before it enters Lake Wingra, so the Arboretum and the surrounding cities are spending more than 6 million dollars. But instead of just surrendering acres of Arboretum land to detention ponds they added a research component using native plants.
