In Wisconsin

Ice Harvest

Special | 4m 20s

We go to Junction City, WI, where the technique of ice harvesting is still practiced.

Ice harvesting is kept alive in Junction City, a crossroads between Steven Point and Marshfield. There, numerous volunteers gather on one of the coldest days of the year to cut and move ice blocks. The blocks are stored till summer and then sold to community and church groups to keep food and drinks cool for their annual picnics. Money made from the ice sales is used to support community projects.
