The story behind the vacant lots on the north side of Milwaukee begins in 1968. The urban renewal program was put into place to revitalize several dilapidated neighborhoods in that area. All was going as planned until replacement housing proved more difficult to find than expected. Several families in Kilbourntown had no where to go and lacked the financial resources to purchase a new home.
