We are Indecent Proposal.
This song is called Allbright.
[Music] I see the sunrise in your eyes.
Clock strikes, it's half past midnight.
I die when you lay by my side.
Am I your only lie tonight?
[Music] I travel far into my dreams just to see how far you've gone from me.
I remember golden days, you and me.
How long must I be your in-between.
[Music] Now we are too far gone, but I'd love to see what we could be, if anything.
I've learned, take it one step at a time.
[Music] Well, I'm Terry Beckman.
I am the bass player and manager of Indecent Proposal.
I kind of started this group, I would say, but it was formed out of a couple other, different, music projects, and Josh can speak more to that.
I'm Josh Brown and I sing for Indecent Proposal and play guitar when I can.
And, yeah, I was asked to join the group shortly after it began.
The rest of the group consists of Mr. Jevin Joki, he is our drummer.
He had a very big part forming this group as well.
He kind of introduced the both of us, and it kind of took off from there.
And then our lead guitarist is Mr. Peter Dotson, and he, actually, we just ran into, believe it or not, through ride share.
So, I do ride sharing on the side and I picked him up one day, and he was looking for a band to be a part of.
And the rest was history from there.
This song is called Feeling Good.
[Music] I've been feeling good today.
I love it when the sunshine shines all over my face.
And I'm not in the mood today to deal with anybody that would doubt what I got going for me.
For me, for me.
They say we're moving too fast.
I was 16 waiting on a dream team.
Now we got gas.
We're taking all the free samples.
We don't ask.
Now the girls got a whole lotta.
We all smoke one.
We don't pass.
If you cook with us, it's a class.
And if you mess with us, show some class.
Show some class.
Don't waste your time being sad.
All the bands don't care that she took what you had.
I know it hurts bad.
I know it hurts bad.
I've been feeling good today.
I love it when the sunshine shines all over my face.
And I'm not in the mood today to deal with anybody who would doubt what I've got going for me.
For me, for me.
Oh.
[Music] I've been feeling good today.
I love it when the sunshine shine's all over my face.
And I'm not in the mood today to deal with anybody who would doubt what I got going for me.
And I've been feeling good today.
I love it when the sunshine shines all over my face.
And I'm not in the mood today to deal with anybody that would doubt what I got going for me.
And I've been feeling good today.
I love it when the sunshine shines all over my face.
And I'm not in the mood today to deal with anybody who would doubt what I've got going for me.
For me, for me.
Oh.
[Music] For me, it changes every time, for songwriting.
I mean, sometimes, when we start writing, I think the first song that we wrote, it was either lyrics or bass line, something like that, but it started with him.
And then he, you know, then, I don't know, I mean, it all usually happens in the course of a night or so per song, I'd say.
You know, we get bursts of inspiration.
They come from anywhere, you know?
You'll hear that from just about any artist out there.
But, you know, for us, the first time that we even got together was in my basement, and as we were setting up, plugging in our amps, I just happened to be the first one who was finished.
So I was just doodling on the bass, and he looked at me after I had played something over and over again.
And he said, "Keep playing that."
And he continued to get his equipment hooked up and we recorded it.
And that song is called Late in the Morning, and you'll be hearing it today.
But that was within the first 5 minutes of getting together.
But then there's other songs that he brings to the table where he writes an amazing--maybe it might just be a sound on the guitar that maybe I want to compliment on a with a bass line, or maybe it's an entire chord progression.
He's really good at vocals and coming up with vocal melodies, so a lot of songs tend to start off with, you know, a hook, or a chorus, if you will.
And we kind of drive it from there.
I'm a hook first guy.
Yeah, definitely.
[Music] Just another night at the bar.
Dance floor filled with lonely hearts.
Fights break out and new love sparks.
As I look around the room, I can't help it.
I see you.
You're in my brain.
You're on my mind, and every night I try to say Goodbye.
Oh, that summer we shared together will never fade.
That kind of memory don't go away.
And even though open my eyes and your side of the bed is cold, I keep on loving you.
I keep on loving you.
I still got your picture in my wallet The new CD you wanted I bought it I listen to it everyday on my way to work It don't really change a thing Just makes me feel a little less empty inside Oh, that summer we shared together will never fade that kind of memory don't go away even though I open my eyes and your side of the bed is cold, I keep on loving you I keep on loving you We held it together till we fell apart I let you in then you broke my heart I didn't see it coming, nor did you you and me were like a country song when the guitar comes in it will come in strong but when the music fades out it will take its time and it will be awhile before you know that it's over Oh, that summer we shared together will never fade that kind of memory don't go away even though I open my eyes and your side of the bed is cold I keep on loving you I keep on loving you Just another night at the bar dance floor filled with lonely hearts fights break out new love sparks As I look around the room I can't help it I see you You're in my brain you're on my mind every night I try to say goodbye goodbye Late in the morning As the sun rolls in A wave of relief set upon my sins You call me a Stoner, say I'll be alone to the end I hope we're forever and not just a trend Days pass, time flies People to see when they lie You look so scared Baby come home and hide Rewind the day, rewinding my sorrow Call me in the morning Oh won't you call me tomorrow The death of the one Brings life to another But when the burning is done perhaps I'll call you my lover Days pass, time flies People to see when they lie You look so scared Baby come home and hide Days pass, time flies People to see when they lie You look so scared Baby come home and hide If your music's good and you know what I'm saying, you know, if it's good then Minnesota will probably have a place for you somewhere, very accepting.
But, uh, I don't think it's been I don't think it's treated us any differently than it's treated anybody who just pursues music with a, you know, passionately.
Yeah I would say most places are very accommodating, a lot of new venues, especially, you know we're from Duluth and a lot of new venues are sprouting about and new breweries, new breweries and tap rooms and things like that.
And the the big challenge is just getting people to come out because you have to be able to prove to a bar owner that, you know, you can bring a crowd, and it's kind of tough to bring a crowd when the crowd doesn't even want to come out for just usual everyday events because they're so used to the lockdowns from Covid.
We're hoping that that gets better.
Obviously it will over time, but it'll be interesting to compare next year from this year of shows.
[Music] [Music] Smoke in my eyes Crowded bar Beat up strings on a broken heart After my last love came and went Like the smell of her cheap perfume Then you walked in, and I saw you looking like you were probably going through something too So hey hey hey if you want to take it slow I don't play play play I wanna see how far we can go so come my way and if you want to be with me tonight girl just look me in the eye and say you want to stay stay stay Don't you wanna stay [Music] So you tell me about a guy You met just a couple of weeks ago and he's just great [Music] [Music] But you just don't feel that spark That you need for a flame Well, I know what you're going through and I think we're both tired of playing these games So hey hey hey if you want to take it slow I don't play play play I wanna see how far we can go so come my way and if you want to be with me tonight girl just look me in the eye and say you want to stay stay stay don't you wanna stay stay stay [Music] [Music] So hey hey hey If you wanna take it slow I don't play play play I wanna see how far we can go so come my way and if you wanna be with me tonight girl just look me in the eye and say you want to stay stay stay don't you wanna stay so girl hey don't you wanna stay It's loud music but it's like it's just the right amount of loud, you know.
I don't want to say like I don't know what genre dude, you know, that's just, I would describe it as...wow, that's a crazy question.
Yeah.
It's just dope, you know.
[Music] Well she's been out all night No one ever treats her right, treats her better than you do But she got it wrong This was never supposed to be her life She's running out of time To wave good-bye as the train rolls out of the station You were late but it's all right I'll stay tonight until the pain takes a vacation I believe that she'll be fine in time, with wine in a plane out on vacation She lost her peace of mind Somewhere between her brain and what's behind her eyes She got her heart notarized Just to prove her love exists outside the mind But she's running out of time to wave Goodbye as the train rolls out of the station you were late but it's all right I'll stay tonight until the pain takes a vacation I believe that she'll be fine in time, with wine in a plane on a vacation Backroads is made possible by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, with money by the vote of the people, November 4th, 2008.
