Now, Mayor Craig Greenberg says an independent monitor will evaluate the city's progress in implementing its own consent decree to reform its police department.
The mayor talked about that monitor and the city's work implementing the consent decree.
During his weekly news conference this morning, we were working so incredibly hard to make sure people all across our community feel safe, feel heard and feel respected, particularly when it comes to issues of public safety and continuous improvement at Lmpd and throughout Louisville Metro government.
And so to that end, I want to remind everybody that we're moving forward with our community commitment.
Louisville's consent decree, which is an agreement between Louisville Metro government and Lmpd and the citizens of Louisville to continue our ongoing reform and improvement efforts.
As part of that, an independent monitor is going to be hired as a neutral evaluator of Louisville Metro governments and Lmpd progress towards implementing the community commitment and everything set forth in there.
And we started a process of selecting that independent monitor that.
The mayor says he wants public input in the choice of that independent monitor.
He says people can find out more at the city's website.
