Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipWe're at the Minnesota Discovery Center here in Chisholm, and we're doing a mural unveiling for a piece that myself and Alexis Martinez created this past year.
So it's a Robin kind of flying out of like a sort of more abstract world into reality.
It is based on a story that my grandpa used to tell us when we were younger about how the robin got its red chest.
And we're just trying to like, depict the story through painting.
The Discovery Center reached out to me about a year, two years ago.
They were interested in applying for a State Arts Board grant and wanted to incorporate more Indigenous storytelling into the imagery here.
They reached out to me.
We got funded from the grant and then I asked if we could partner with someone locally in the community who maybe wanted to learn how to do murals and who is from the region, because I'm obviously I'm from Duluth.
And ultimately Alexis Martinez, she came up with the concept.
I just helped her bring it to life on a large scale.
