You know, with your experience, your own personal experience with breast cancer, with your mother and everything that she experienced in your family, what would what kind of suggestions would you have for anybody that is going through the same situation?
The first thing that's really important is to have a support system, whether that's family, church family, friends.
but you really need a support system.
Another thing is the internet is not your friend.
If you are really seeking knowledge, go to cancer.org and that's the American Cancer Society website.
And you get good solid information.
And the last thing is get better at saying no, it's not important or it doesn't sound like fun.
Then tell them no because life is short.
That's right.
You have one life to live.
And I think even those that may not be going through this can use that bit of advice as well.
You have to cherish that time you have.
That's right.
Which, as far as, communication, we talked a little about about communicate earlier.
What are some things if someone has a family member and they've just found out that that family member or that friend has cancer, what are some things that they can do to help them through their experience?
Well, it depends on the person because we're all different.
a hug is hardly ever out of the way, but always ask first.
And just being there for someone, saying, I heard about your diagnosis.
I'm so sorry.
Yeah.
Can I bring you some food?
Do you need help with your laundry?
And even just being there as a, someone to talk to.
Right.
I know that I've had some friends that just needed to vent.
They know there was no solution.
They just need to be able to talk about those difficult things.
And that's one of the things the Reach to Recovery program can provide for people is I'm I am a good talker, but I'm also a good listener when, I'm doing those kinds of calls.
So, and you can get information about that at cancer.org.
That sounds great.
So cancer.org.
And I know the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.
All the components of American Cancer Society is always looking for volunteers as well.
And I have been a volunteer.
You are a volunteer and we appreciate everything that you do.
And thank you so much for being with us today.
Thank you for having me.
