Grandma> What's wrong, Neal?
Neal> Grandma, look out!
(Metal crashing) ♪ Billy> Neal, is that you?
Are you alright?
(Neal moaning) My arm.
My arm hurt.
I can't move it.
Billy> Neal, stay still.
Don't try to move.
Is your grandmother conscious?
Neal> What?
Billy> Is your grandmother awake?
Neal> Grandma?!
Grandma, wake up.
Grandma's hurt.
Billy> Neal, I'm going to get help.
Don't try to move.
I'll be right back.
♪ Mailman> What's wrong?
Billy> There's been an accident, Neal and his grandmother.
Their car went off the road and they hit a tree.
I can't get the door open... ♪ Mailman> I can't get it open.
Call the emergency number and get some help.
Tell him there's been an automobile accident.
There's two people that are hurt and trapped in the car.
Billy> So you want me to get them to send an ambulance and a policeman?
Mailman> Yeah.
Hurry up.
Oh, tell him to send a fire truck I smell a lot of gasoline.
♪ ♪ Mailman> It'll be okay.
He went to call an ambulance and the police.
You'll be out of there before you know it.
♪ ♪ Operator> Emergency services.
Billy> I want to report an automobile accident.
Operator> Where's the accident?
located?
Billy> On Elm Road.
between Cannon and David Street.
Operator> Is anyone hurt?
Billy> Yes.
Two people.
Neal says his arm hurts and his grandmother's unconscious.
Operator> Who's hurt?
Billy> Neal Joy and his grandmother, Ms. Joy.
Please hurry.
They need an ambulance and a fire truck.
Operator> Is there a fire?
Billy> No, not yet, but the car doors are stuck.
And we smell a lot of gasoline Operator> Can you hold?
Billy> Yes, I can hold.
♪ (alarm sounds) Attention, attention!
Copy number nine, Copy number 16.
Respond to a tip...auto, possible fire.
...P.I.s trapped on Elm Road between Cannon and David.
Auto accident.
Woman unconscious child with possible broken arm.
Operator> Car seven respond to auto accident.
Elm Road between Cannon and David.
(Fire truck siren) ♪ Help, ♪ we need the policeman!
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the firemen too.♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the ambulance!
♪ ♪ We need ♪ the jobs they can do.
♪ ♪ There's been ♪ a wreck on Elm Street.
♪ ♪ There's danger of fire.
♪ ♪ There's been ♪ a wreck on Elm Street.
♪ ♪ People are trapped ♪ in the car.
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the policeman.
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the firemen too.
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the ambulance ♪ ♪ We need the jobs ♪ they can do.
♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ You got that...?
♪ >> Disconnect the battery... >> I already got it.
♪ Fireman #1> The lady is unconscious.
I was trying to talk to her... ♪ Help, ♪ we need the policeman!
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the firemen too.
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the ambulance ♪ ♪ We need the jobs ♪ they can do.
♪ ♪ The policeman ♪ direct the traffic.
♪ ♪ Firemen get them out ♪ of the car.
♪ ♪ Ambulance take ♪ them safely ♪ ♪ to the hospital, ♪ which isn't too far.
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ We need the policeman.
♪ ♪ Help, we need ♪ the firemen too.
♪ ♪ Help, ♪ we need the ambulance.
♪ ♪ We need the jobs ♪ they can do.
♪ ♪ ♪ Neal> I wish dad was here.
They fixed mom good.
I was scared when we got here, but I'm not now.
Nurse> We're all finished now, you can see the doctor now, and he'll look at your arm and let you know when you have to come back.
♪ Doctor> Mr. Joy, Dad> I'm Matt Joy.
Is Neal, okay?
Doctor> Neal's doing fine.
We had to put a cast on his left arm, with a slight break, but he'll be all right very soon.
And you can see him almost anytime now.
Dad> I'll be right there.
Here's my mother.
Mom, the doctor said you'll be fine.
However, they want to keep you overnight t Grandma> Yes.
The doctor just told me.
But, Matt where's Neal?
I haven't seen him since the wreck.
Is he okay?
Dad> Sure, Neal's fine.
He just has a small break in his left arm and was released today.
Grandma> Good.
<Dad> Okay.
They is checking you in now.
I'm going to take Neal home.
I'll be back as soon as I can.
Grandma> You just take care of Neal.
There's enough nurses and doctor here to take care of me.
Dad> Stay strong.
Grandma> All right.
Dad> Well, sport, it looks like you will be in a sling for a while.
Neal> I guess I will.
At least I can still use my other hand.
I'm glad I'm right handed.
Nurse.
You have to be careful with that ca for at least 24 hours until it dries completely.
Neal> I want to see grandma.
Dad> I just saw her.
She had to stay the night.
Neal> Is she hurt badly.
Dad> No, no.
She's okay.
But they want to keep her overnight for ob Neal> Can I see her?
Doctor> Not today.
We want you to go home and rest a while.
Dad> Tell you what, I'll bring you to see grandma, first thing in the morning.
Neal> Okay.
Nurse> Come on, Neal Let's put this sling on.
♪ Dad> How does the sling feel?
Neal> It's alright.
I hope Grandma's really okay.
I'll feel better when I see her tomorrow.
♪ Grandma> Come here ♪ Neal> These are for you.
Grandma> Oh, they're beautiful.
Thank you.
Are you all right?
Neal> I'm fine.
But I broke my arm.
I had to wear the cast for several weeks, but Dad says I could have my friends autograph it.
Will you sign my cast?
Grandma> Sure, give me a pen.
Neal> Grandma.
I'm sorry, I distracted you yesterday when you were driving.
The wreck was my fault.
Grandma> No, it wasn't.
I should have kept my eyes on the road.
I'm just so glad we're all right.
We can get another car.
Doctor> Ms Joy, we have good news for you.
As soon as we get results of the last test, you may go home Grandma> Good.
I'm ready to go home now, but I'm not going to drive.
Neal and I can recuperate at home together.
Neal> Dad, if you're going to wait on gran can I go ahead and walk home?
I'll tell Mom you're coming?
Dad> Are you sure, you feel up to it?
Neal> I'm okay.
Dad> Well, what do you think, doctor?
Doctor> I'm sure it's all right.
Dad> Okay, but be careful, Neal> I will.
See you at home, Grandma.
Grandma> Okay.
Neal> Dr. Mills I didn't thank you for helping me yesterday.
Nurse> Neal, it's our job to help people when they're sick or have been hurt.
Doctor> We went to school to learn how to help people in need.
Neal> Will you both sign my cast?
Doctor> Sure, will.
♪ Neal> Oh, aren't you the ones who brought Grandma and me to the hospital yesterday.
>> Yeah.
You're, the fellow that was in the automobile accident.
>> So you've got a cast on your arm?
Neal> A bone in my arm was broken, but it isn't bad.
Grandma's okay, too.
She'll be going home in a little while.
Will you sign my cast?
>> Sure, I'll be glad to.
Bringing people who are injured to the hospital, that's part of our job.
Dispatch> Richland Memorial Hospital emergency room code two.
>> Oh, got a call.
See you later, man.
>> Be careful so they don't need us again.
Neal> Bye.
♪ They said they were just doing their job, but I'm glad they were there when we needed them.
♪ Neal> Officer Hartman?
Officer Hartman> Yes, Neal.
How are you?
Neal> I'm fine, and so is Grandma Officer Hartman> That's great.
I was worried about you in that accident yesterday.
Neal> Thanks, for helping us get out of the car yesterday.
Officer Hartman> Well, that's part of my job whether people are in trouble or need help, I'm supposed to be there to help them.
Neal> I thought you spent most of the time giving tickets.
Officer Hartman> Well, I do that too, you know, police enforce laws and laws were made to protect the people.
Now, whether somebody breaks a big law or a small law, I'm supposed to be there to catch them.
Neal> Will you sign my cast?
Officer Hartman> Sure, I'd be glad to.
It's like somebody else has signed it to.
♪ Neal> I'm gonna thank everyone who helped us.
Fireman> Hey, look who's here.
This is the fellow that was involved in yesterday's auto accident.
I just came to thank you for helping us get out of the car and for putting out the fire.
Fireman #1> You're awful lucky just to com of that accident with a broken arm.
Fireman #2> Most of the time, people wait too late to call us.
They think they're going to control the fire themselves.
or else nobody knows it.
Neal> Do you fight lots of fires?
Fireman Fireman #2> That's what we trained for.
Neal> Well, I'm sure glad that's your job.
I'm getting everyone who helped us to sign my cast.
Will you sign it?
Fireman #2> Sure.
♪ Neal> Mr Bruce?
Mr. Bruce> Neal, how are you today?
Neal> I fine, thanks to you.
I came to thank you for helping us yesterday.
Mr. Bruce> I'm glad I was there to help.
If I hadn't been picking up my mail, I wouldn't have been there Neal> Why do you pick up and deliver mail?
Mr. Bruce> Why?
Because it needs to be done.
People need to communicate with other people for a lot of different reasons.
Neal> So you help people every day then?
So helping us, wasn't unusual for you.
Mr. Bruce> Well, helping at an automobile accident isn't my usual line of work, but it's good to know that my helping was worthwhile.
Neal> Will you sign my cast?
Mr. Bruce> I'd be glad to.
Neal> I'm getting everyone who helped us to sign it.
♪ Billy> Hey, Neal.
Are you okay?
The last time I saw you were trapped in that wrecked car.
By the time I got back, they'd already taking you to the hospital.
Neal> I'm fine.
So, is Grandma.
I just have a broken bone in my arm But the doctor said it will be fine before long.
Will you sign my cast?
I'm getting everyone who helped us to sign it.
Billy> I sure was scared when I saw your grandma's car go off the road and hit the tree, but I was glad I was able to help.
Neal> What were you doing out there?
Billy> I was delivering the evening paper.
People want these people when they get home from work.
I have to start right after school so I ca Neal> You're just like the mail carrier, even the rain don't keep you from your route.
Billy> It's not fun on those days but I get paid for the service I provide, but I do it and do it right.
It's my job.
Neal> That's what everyone has told me.
It's their job to help people when they're trouble or need help I'm sure glad they were there when we needed them.
Billy> Well, I'll see you later.
Neal> Okay, bye.
Billy> Bye.
♪ ♪ Policeman.
Fireman.
Ambulance.
♪ ♪ People know us ♪ at a glance.
♪ ♪ Sirens wailing, fire bells ring ♪ ♪ Telling of the help ♪ we bring.
♪ ♪ Community helpers ♪ everywhere.
♪ ♪ Doing our jobs because we care.
♪ ♪ Doctors, nurses, mailman too ♪ ♪ delivering service for you.
♪ ♪ It's our job to help you out ♪ when you need us, ♪ ♪ we're about.
♪ ♪ We get there quickly ♪ with our aid, ♪ ♪ Making things better, ♪ it's our trade.
