Suffice to say, 2021 was quite a year.
As we begin the new year, Crosscut reflects on some of our top stories.
First up, the pandemic.
Parents are trying to figure out schooling and child care as new variants emerge, and those who've contracted COVID-19 are coping with aftereffects like brain fog and other so-called long COVID symptoms as they recover.
Law enforcement reform also made the news.
Politics reporter Melissa Santos conducted a nine-month investigation into how Washington continues to employ police officers with documented credibility issues, including dishonesty and excessive force.
The series prompted local prosecutors to reconsider how they were tracking police misbehavior.
And elections.
After a hard-fought campaign, Bruce Harrell beat Lorena Gonzalez to become Seattle's next mayor.
