- Yes, we are at Gospel Music FanFair.
We've got a lot of wonderful people we get an opportunity to meet.
And right now we've got Crimson Chord.
And of course they're looking gorgeous, handsome.
And we're just thankful that we're able to be with you.
Hello.
Let me welcome you to "Alabama Gospel Roots."
- It is a pleasure to be here with you.
- Great, you say that you've been hearing about this FanFair for quite some time.
- Actually, I was a part of the very first FanFair in 2009 in Chattanooga, and this is the next one I've been to.
So I gotta make up some time.
- You gotta make up some time.
But you made it.
You made it.
- Absolutely.
- Okay, well, introduce yourself.
Give me your name and- - My name is Terry Dorsey from Brownsville, Kentucky.
- Okay.
- This is Lena Aldridge.
She's from Bee Spring, Kentucky.
This is Susan Hicks, and she is from Monticello, Kentucky.
And we are Crimson Chord.
- All right, so you have been, you are the founder of the group?
- Yes.
- And how long has the group actually, maybe not the members here, but the group been in existence?
- The group traces its roots back to 1962.
- Wow.
And you were the founder in 1962?
- My parents and grandparents were the founders.
- Okay.
And the group was called Crimson Chord at that time?
- At that time it was the family group, the Dorsey family.
And this has grown out of that group.
- Okay.
So have you recorded before?
- Yes, the group itself has recorded probably about 40 albums.
- Wow.
- This configuration we haven't actually recorded yet because Susan's only been with us for a couple of months.
But Crimson Chord has recorded.
- Okay, so when you go around the country, what are you hoping to express to the people that you get a chance to minister to?
- Well, we just left the main stage and we sang our last song, and it is our theme.
It is the message we want to get out.
And the song title is a simple question, "Do You Know Jesus?"
If we can present that and present it almost like salesman, it's the greatest thing in the world.
Then we've accomplished our goal.
- That is excellent.
What do you have in the future for Crimson Chord?
- Well, in the future, we're working on material for a new project right now.
Lena and I have been doing a lot of writing.
And I can give a little teaser.
- Well, do it.
- There is a Crimson Chord television show in the works.
So we'll be giving you a little competition.
- Well, do it, do it.
And I want you to outrun me, okay?
- I want you to do it.
- I don't know about that.
- I want you to do that because you're wonderful people, I can tell by the smiles and the spirit.
So we wish you the very best.
- Thank you.
- And hope to see you again, okay?
- Yes, sir.

Yes, indeed, you've been waiting all week long, and we are finally here, and we've got something very special for you.
And you'll be enjoying this for a few weeks because we are in the midst of Gospel Music FanFair in Fayette, Alabama.
And I've had an opportunity to meet some beautiful people, going to get the chance to meet some more beautiful people as they travel to enrich themselves with information and opportunities to spread the gospel through gospel music, Southern gospel music in particular.
And I've got the founder, Mr. Randall Wilds.
And it's called Alabama... Well, it's not called Alabama, but it's called Gospel Music FanFair.
And I want you to call a neighbor, call a friend.
It's a little bit different, but call a neighbor, call a friend, and let 'em know we're back again.
Brother Randall, how are you, sir?
- I'm doing good.
Doing good.
- Great, well, we're so pleased that we could partner with you to help spread the gospel through this great gospel music.
And thank you for working with us as we worked out logistics and things like that.
- Right.
- And your ability to make it happen, and here we are.
- Here we are.
And we're glad that you're here.
You know, we've done this, this is our 21st year.
- Wow.
- Yeah.
We've been doing it for 21 years.
And you know, we've learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes.
But, you know, thank the good Lord that we're still promoting the gospel music.
- That's great, so this was your mindset here to, I mean, your idea to do this.
- Yes, sir.
- And it started where?
- We started, actually, like I said, 21 year ago.
It started about 23 years.
We were talking with JD Sumner with the Stamps.
And he says, "Man, we need a convention that can have groups, solos, independents, everything."
So we took the idea to Chattanooga was our first, we were there for several years, then relocated to Pigeon Forge.
And then for the last nine years we've been in Somerset, Kentucky.
- Okay.
- And then last year I had some health issues and everything, and so we brought it closer to home.
My home's in Kennedy, Alabama, so that's why we came to Fayette.
This was the closest convention center and civic center.
- Okay, I was wondering how it all worked to get you to Fayette.
- Right, right.
- So you're pretty pleased with your opportunities here?
- We're pleased.
We love the facility, it's beautiful.
It's got a lot of rich heritage in our community and everything.
And it seems like everybody has enjoyed being here in Fayette.
- Well, as you talk to the groups, what do you hope to accomplish when you are speaking with them and when they come and leave, what do you want them to be better at?
- I want them, whenever they come, to obey and follow the leadership of the Lord.
- I got you.
- That's the first and foremost, you know, and a lot of times, even though it's a program, I want everybody to be able to see Christ in what they're doing.
- Okay.
- You know, if they don't, then there's other shows they can go to.
- I got you.
So do you feel pretty successful with that thus far?
- I do, I mean, we've had some participations from some living legends, new and upcoming groups.
You know, so everybody seems to be really pleased with it, you know, and too on that, we have the 21st Annual Gospel Music Fan Awards.
And those are totally fan-based.
So, you know, a lot of people's like, "Well, so and so didn't win, or this one didn't win."
Well, the fans, if they didn't nominate 'em, then they have no choice, you know?
- I got you.
Well, we gotta get some more gospel music on "Alabama Gospel Music."
- Right.
Very good.
- All right.
Are you ready?
Let's everybody again, call a neighbor, call a friend.
I'm here with the founder of the Gospel Music FanFair, Mr. Randall Wilds, and we wanna invite you.

- We just sing for the Lord.
We just call ourselves gospel music.
We do whatever the Lord lays on our heart.
You know, sometimes you walk in the door and you don't know exactly what they need to hear.
So we have some that we've wrote, we have some of the contemporary, and we also love the Southern gospel as well.
So whatever God calls us to, we listen.
- All right.
So how long have you and Brennen been a team?
- We have only been singing together for probably about a year now.
I sang with a group for 10 years, and then Lord called me out to do solo.
I questioned, I'm like, "Lord, I'm doing your work.
Why would you want me to?"
But little did I know that this little 15-year-old would be preaching and singing with me.
- Preaching and singing.
- We don't even ask anymore.
We just give him the blessing and thank him for what he does for our lives.
Amen.
- That's awesome.
Well, when did you discover that Brennen had this desire or gift to minister and sing?
- It was probably about four months after God had called me out.
Brennen had actually, I probably could've let him do the testimony, he had heard a father and a son that were singing together, and he goes, "Mom, I think I might wanna do that with you."
I said, "Well, all right, you can come on up here."
And he sang a couple songs, and I could just feel the spirit radiating off of him.
And there was another pastor who had come to him one time and said, "I can see that you have preaching in your life."
And he testified that over him.
And I think Brennen kinda looked at me like, "Mama, I don't know what he's talking about."
But he told him, he said the next event that we come to, have a sermon ready.
And Brennen took him for real and he had a sermon ready, and that was the first sermon he'd ever given.
I think you were 13 at that point.
- It was 15 minutes and very raw.
- It was.
But you know what?
God takes us and he can mold us into anything.
That was the first time that I seen what God had over him.
And I just try to stay outta the way and let God lead.
Amen.
- Gotcha.
Well, why don't we let Brennen say something, Mom.

- It sure has.
It's been wonderful.
- Yes, now, you drove in from Tennessee?
- From Greenville, Tennessee.
- Greenville, Tennessee.
And you've been there all your life?
- No, we actually moved there just two years ago.
- Just two years.
Where did you move there from?
- From North Carolina, from Asheville, North Carolina, and then from Ohio, which is where I'm from.
- Oh, so you move around a lot, huh?
- Yeah.
Yeah.
- Great.
You got family?
- I do.

A wife?
- I got two boys, a wife, and I got a father that's been a preacher for 57 years.

- John Westling.
- All right.
So you're the second or the third?
- I'm a junior.
- You're a junior, okay.
So what are you trying to accomplish with your singing?
- I'll be honest with you, I just, when I write all of my songs, I wanna write about the Lord.
- Yes.
- I wanna be able to tell everybody about what Jesus is about.
- Okay.
- And so when I write a song, it's really gotta be scriptural.
- I got you.
- And that's what I try to accomplish.
- Okay.
I know you've written a lot of them.
- Yes.
- But what would be one of your favorites?
- Well, I love "Jesus is a Friend" because Jesus is a friend.
- Okay.
- That'll stick closer than a brother.
- All right.
- And when I wrote that song, it really, really moved me.
- And it still moves you.
- Mm-hmm.
But I've got one coming out on the new album "Here and Now," it's called "Upon a Cross," and that's gonna be a good one.
- (laughs) I got you.
