Providing Support for PBS.org
Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- I feel that I'm a servant.
I love to be able to provide.
It is a joy.
My name is Jewel Ausby Lowe, and my title is Engagement Program Manager here at PBS North Carolina.
And I'm also a Production Assistant for Black Issues Forum.
My mother started working here as an educational trainer.
And so when she was doing that, we would volunteer with her.
We would go across the state.
We'd be engaging with parents.
We'd be hosting events and so forth.
It was like, okay, this is what I wanna do.
To be able to just bring something that's engaging and fun and stressless for families to be able to enjoy with their kids and one another in the community.
That's the joy I get out of doing what I do.
We were at a fall festival.
And of course, people were charging for this and that, even for the bouncy house they were charging.
And so a lot of parents are, "How much is this space?"
'Cause we had a huge space.
Well, the space is for free.
"What?"
It's for free, come enjoy.
And we had toys and games all over the place for them to come and sit.
And even at the state fair, the toys and stuff that we have out, I cannot tell you how many parents asked me, "So where did you get this from?
"How did you find that toy?
"I need that."
'Cause their children would sit and play with these things for hours.
And I want parents to be upset.
We paid to go to the fair, not to come here to the tent all day.
But that's what we do.
This is what we're supposed to do is provide a free resource for the families, even to engage at the state fair.
So it's fun.
It's fun to see them appreciate and be engaged with what we bring.
So I love coming to work.
