Final edition of 157-year-old newspaper on Feb. 1
The Jersey Journal, which has covered Hudson County politics and news for 157 years, will print its final edition on Saturday. The newspaper said it couldn’t afford to remain in business following a decision by The Star-Ledger to close its production facility in Montville, which prints the Journal and several other newspapers.

The newspaper said it couldn't afford to remain in business following a decision by The Star-Ledger to close its production facility in Montville, which prints the Jersey Journal and several other newspapers.
The Journal's editor and publisher said online only news just wouldn't be enough to sustain the operation.
So it's shutting down for good.
And as I mentioned, those print versions of the ledger, those end on Sunday.
After that, the news reporting will be web only.
So that's on your phone, tablet or computer.
The rising costs of printing a newspaper, which at its peak in the late eighties and early nineties, printed some 450,000 copies daily, just couldn't keep up with the decline in readership.
