Joshua Glover fled slavery in St. Louis, Missouri, only to be recaptured in Wisconsin. Defying the Fugitive Slave Act, abolitionists including Sherman Booth aided Joshua in his journey via the Underground Railroad. These actions were part of a chain of events that led to the formation of the Republican Party and the Emancipation Proclamation.
