Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - Hi, I'm Joy Potts and I'm director of Impact.
I started as an intern.
I was hired to support Readeroo, our mascot, and spent a majority of that first year hopping across the state, literally, which was a very magical and sweaty experience.
(laughs) I also coordinated our Young Writers and Illustrators competition, and we solicited original works from students, kindergarten through third grade, every year.
We had thousands of children compete.
We would take the original works that won the competition and then animate them.
- The rabbit and kangaroo were best friends.
- And they would go on air during our breaks, which was really cool for the kids to see their original works come to life.
- Thank you for helping me, kangaroo.
- A couple years ago, I had a mother reach out to me, and her daughter was a winner in our Young Writers and Illustrators competition, and she had just published her first book, and that it was being distributed internationally.
I went on this author's website, and she, in her bio attributes, being a part of her local PBS station, that launched her career, that launched her interest and confidence as a writer.
Just so many stories like that that just, you know, you hear along the way.
- Well, Readeroo, we picked out so many tasty treats for lunch today.
I want to prove to the world that this is much more than just masterpiece, what we're doing in this building and as this organization.
Like, we are really making a difference in lives.
