(tense music) There's a new plan to get more people back into Downtown Seattle, a proposal by Mayor Bruce Harrell.
The newly released Downtown Activation Plan is a laundry list from simple things, like better lighting on the sidewalks, to targeting gun violence and drug dealers and repurposing vacant storefronts.
The mayor hopes the investments will bring more people to the heart of the city after the pandemic decimated the activity of daily office workers, visitors, and tourists.
(tense music continues) In-person office work has returned to roughly 50% of its pre-pandemic levels, according to the Downtown Seattle Association.
Harrell wants to build on this progress by making downtown more attractive for both visitors and locals.
The Downtown Activation Plan is split into seven goal areas, including public safety, residential occupancy, retail recovery, tourism, and environmental efforts.
