(gentle upbeat music) More than 400 harvest workers can breathe a sigh of relief after winning a years-long battle for back wages and interest.
A settlement was reached with two Yakima apple and cherry orchard owners.
An investigation by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries found G & G Orchards and RC Orchards workers were not paid properly for fruit harvest between 2018 and 2021.
The investigation uncovered that workers should have been paid a higher amount at either a piece rate for fruit picked or an hourly rate.
L&I officials found that workers were also owed for time spent on the job site waiting for machines to be repaired.
L&I Director Joel Sacks says it's important to hold employers accountable for paying workers what they are owed.
The agency says it will notify each worker about the settlement, and employees can also call them.
