[music playing] Brayden: Hi, I'm Brayden Armstrong with School Talk.
Today I have here Juliana Hildebrand.
Thank you for being with us, Juliana.
I have a few questions to ask you starting with tell me a lit.. Juliana: Well, my name's Juliana.
I love to play volleyball, and I prefer dogs over cats.
Brayden: I like dogs too.
Do you have a dog?
Juliana: I do.
Brayden: Tell me a little bit about your dog.
What's its name?
Juliana: His name is Ace.
He is a one-year-old silver lab.
Brayden: How did it get its name?
Juliana: From a show that me and my parents like to watch, she named her dog... or her son... She named her son Ace, and we had already picked out that name as one of the names we were going to do, so we decided to keep going with that one.
Brayden: Good answer.
Thank you.
My next question is, tell me a little bit ab.. Juliana: Volleyball.
It can be hard for some people, especially if you haven't either watched the .. you haven't kind of worked on it.
You have to work on it for a little bit, especially with serving it takes a little bit to get a hold of that.
Brayden: What has been your favorite school.. over- Juliana: Probably going to Springfield in third grade because I love whenever my parents chaperone and my dad chaperoned that year.
Brayden: Tell me a little bit about that trip.
Juliana: We did it because of Abraham Lincoln.
It was the Abraham Lincoln one in Springfield, so there was just a bunch of random stuff that they had there about Abraham Lincoln and stuff.
Brayden: I like that too.
How about this?
What are your favorite subjects?
Juliana: My favorite subjects, I like reading mostly because I do like reading.
Brayden: Is there any genre you like to read the most?
Juliana: Probably mystery.
I like mystery a lot.
Brayden: Is there a certain book you like to read?
Juliana: I couldn't name one off the top of my head.
No.
Brayden: I like to read too.
I have another question for you.
What class do you enjoy most here at school?
Juliana: Art probably because I just like how she plans stuff out and what she does in her class.
Brayden: What do you like to make in art most?
Juliana: I do like drawing random sketches, so just whenever we have time to free draw or just drawing in general whenever we have a project just about that.
Brayden: Tell me some other things in art that you've made that makes it interesting.
Juliana: Probably we recently have done felt.
We've made our fears out of felt, so that was very interesting to see how we had to make it and what we made to do it and how to do it even though it wasn't too hard.
You just had to use felt, hot glue and whatever else you had to add to it.
Brayden: Great answer.
I have another question for you.
Do you think that our school, Jefferson, is a good place to learn daily?
Juliana: Yes, I would say so.
Brayden: Tell me why.
Juliana: Well, first of all, because of the teachers.
The teachers I would say are very helpful and encouraging to most students, which helps a lot, especially for learning.
Brayden: What are some things that they do?
Juliana: During math, if you're struggling they will sit down with you either one-on-one or with a group that's also struggling with the same thing, and they will just help you through the thing that you're doing.
Brayden: That's interesting.
Moving on to our next question, is it easy to learn in a fun enviro.. Juliana: It can be, but it also can't be.
So it can be because you're having fun, and it's calm, but then sometimes it can get out of hand, and there can be a lot of talking and a lot of running around and stuff.
It just really depends on how the class is.
Brayden: I understand that.
When you feel frustrated from the chaos around, what do you do to cope w.. Juliana: Usually, I will just pull out kind of my computer.
If I'm reading or working on just a regular work, then that's hard to do with a bunch of noise.
But if you're on your computer, it usually .. on a paper or something.
Brayden: I like the way you answered that.
I have another question for you.
Do you have a set time to study your homework?
Juliana: Not really, but I do have kind of after, so it'd be school and then the day after that, but not really a set time.
Brayden: Do you enjoy working on your homework at all?
Juliana: It really just depends.
For the postcard project that we recently finished, it was fun to make the postcards and stuff like that, but if it's math homework or something, then I have to make sure I get it done and stuff.
Brayden: Tell me about the postcard project.
Juliana: Well, you had to do first the part one was just a bunch of studying for it and writing down notes, and then part two was actually making postcards on Canva or something like that.
You just make postcards and then get voted on for them.
Brayden: Are you going to mail the postcards?
Juliana: It depends on if you get voted for, so if you get enough stickers or stamps on them because people voted for yours, it's like five or 10 of them that they're actually mailing out, I'm pretty sure.
Brayden: What did you make?
Juliana: I made about eight postcards.
It was all about ancient Egypt, so it was ancient Egypt, their mummification, the Nile River, the geography and stuff like that.
Brayden: Great answer.
Next question is, are you nervous to go to middle school at all?
Juliana: I definitely am at a certain level just because of probably all of the work that we're going to have to be doing, because that just seems like already a lot and just a bunch more teachers that you're going to have to have, so it will be probably a struggle to keep up with some of it.
Brayden: I'm a little nervous too about it.
How do you feel about having no recess?
Juliana: I enjoy recess only for the break of it and being with friends that either aren't in your class or anything like that.
Brayden: I can appreciate that.
My next question is, what is your favorite cafeteria food here at Jefferson?
Juliana: In fifth grade, I used to always get the nachos, and now I get usually the tacos and sometimes if they don't have it or if it's closed, then I'll get pizza or something like that.
Brayden: Do you like Mexican food then?
Juliana: Yes, I do.
Brayden: Tell me a little bit the favorite foods you like to eat.
Juliana: From Mexican foods, yeah.
I like the nacho fajitas.
I just like tacos and nachos like that, so the nacho fajitas, it's just very good to me.
It's a big, big nacho basically.
Brayden: Do you feel like our food here at Jefferson is healthy and balanced?
Juliana: I'd say it's balanced though.
Brayden: Would you like to see any new foods here?
Juliana: Yeah, probably.
Brayden: Tell me about what kind of foods you'd like to see in the future.
Juliana: Probably better sandwiches almost and some more salads probably.
Brayden: I like that too.
I have another question for you.
What advice would you have for a younger student starting at our school next year?
Juliana: I would say definitely try not to start drama because it first of all wears out everyone, the teachers, the other students, and it just is too much.
Brayden: Is there any drama that you've been.. in?
Juliana: I definitely try to stay away from.. it's too much even for me.
I don't see how people can really handle it, but I stay away from it, and I just make sure to stay away and just ignore those people and try not to become friends with them because then you'll probably become part of the drama.
Brayden: If you were involved in any kind of drama, what would you do to stop it or cope with it?
Juliana: I would probably tell the principal or a teacher for sure, and especially if it's a fight or something, definitely go tell a teacher, especially if it's like during recess because that's mostly when they happen.
I just say to make sure to stay away from it and just to tell a teacher if you see it or are involved in it.
Brayden: That's good advice for anyone starting here next year or anyone that's still here.
Do you get nervous when you have a test?
Juliana: I would say, yeah.
At a certain level, yes.
Brayden: What do you do to help calm yourself down?
Juliana: I would say just definitely make sure to study and whatever the teacher gives you like a study guide or something, make sure you prepare yourself and look like through those and stuff like that.
Make sure you do that.
Brayden: That's a good answer.
What do you think high school's going to be like?
Juliana: I would say definitely a bunch of work and a bunch of crazy people.
Brayden: Yeah, I can see how that's going to happen.
Do you think it's going to prepare us for our next step in life?
Juliana: It probably just depends on what classes we take and how much we actually pay attention to it and if we make sure we stay focused on grades and how to make sure you're just a good person.
Brayden: Good answer, thank you.
My next question is, what do you think the most important thing tha.. world right now that we need to think about?
Juliana: I don't remember what it is called, but it's with Antarctica and the animals and oil.
I'm pretty sure they passed that, and I think they're going to do it.
It's endangering for sure that animals and stuff like that, especially since they're already not doing good because of climate change and stuff like that, so that's definitely something that we should try to help at least and not just let it sit there and die off.
Brayden: It's a good answer to help other animals and things live on.
Is there anything else you could think that we could do to help give back to the school or the environment around us?
Juliana: Including helping animals and stuff, we could just try to do another fundraiser, but instead of fundraiser for just the school, we could do it for the animal shelter or something around that and help the animals, give them either food, adopt some of them, give them to people or stuff like that.
Brayden: That's a great answer.
My final question is, is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Juliana: My teacher is definitely one of my favorites through the schools for sure.
Brayden: Why is that?
Juliana: Because just the way she is, her personality.
She's definitely a very loving and caring person in general, just as a person.
Also as a teacher, she definitely tries her hardest and tries her best for everything she does, and it's amazing really.
Brayden: We definitely need to give a shout out to all the teachers that we appreciate.
Well, thank you for being here, Juliana.
Thanks for joining us on School Talk.
