chamber 5 years ago holding multiple positions during her time before becoming president given her past experience Jay knows the ins and outs within the chamber Jay says she benefits from inheriting the already well-run chamber Jay at the moment will continue running the chamber how it was but sees many new ideas coming to life for Nisa in the near future for now I'm just going to keep doing things the way they have been done because like I said they're going well um but I do have some ideas for maybe some new events or changes to events some changes within the office but I don't have anything radical planned as of right now within niswa alone the Chamber of Commerce has committed to over 350 businesses and individuals helping to grow the community Sanford Health's 26th annual Taco Fest happened today down at the waterfront for $10 people could get a taco drink and dessert not only did this event kickoff this week's Dragon Boat Festival the money was all going towards a good cause Sanford Health has partnered with United Way an organization that raises funds for local nonprofits United Way works with agencies who are performing services in basic needs health and education such as food shelters or the Boys and Girls Club the goal of today was to sell 2 to 3,000 tacos they make it right here they um need the dough and fry it right right on site the the food is all donated by lucans so there's no cost I mean literally all 100% of of uh the cost goes back into the community at least 25,000 a big goal would be 30 this year it has been really good um it's definitely a warm day today but much warmer than we've had in the last few years um but it doesn't seem to be keeping the people away so far so we'll hope for a continued a great crowd this evening the taco Fest has been partnered with United Way for the past four years and have yet to have an unsuccessful year Aver ining 2 to 3,000 customers every year still to come on Lakeland News at 10 we figure skating and offers learn to skate USA to teach ice skating skills to children ages three and on to all surrounding communities reporter miles Walker has the latest while vacation land is on the verge of quite the Milestone the club gathered to celebrate an individual success as Cassidy Wick passed eight different us figure skating tests becoming the club's first skater to earn double gold medal status when I first found out I bursted out crying cuz it's been just such a big goal of mine and a huge milestone to accomplish and finding out that I accomplished that was just an amazing feeling Wick's mother who has Coast at vacation land for 20 years and figure SC ated competitively for 12 years herself first introduced her daughter to the sport just before her second birthday and Wick's love for skating has only grown since just getting into competitions I always just enjoyed performing and skating and having my mom there she went through this when she was younger and just her being there to guide me really helped and we've always just stayed at vacation land and I've loved it and the Wicks aren't the only ones with family ties to Vacation land as Club director Savannah Winkler first learned about it through her mother who is a founding board member for vacation land and knows the evolution the club's undergone in its history we were an outdoor rink we were an outdoor club when we first started so the first 3 years we actually skated outside I think they just wanted a place for kids to skate and have something to do outside in the winter I think it's really special that you can do this either inside or outside in the winter on the lake and it's just a really good combination of skill sets that you learn here and while performance is important to Vacation land what matters more to the staff is helping m the young skaters into fine young women and men I have a huge passion for kids and I love helping them learn Life Lessons I'm also a very big like technique person but teaching them life lessons for me is so much more important because we're not going to create Olympians out of vacation land we just don't have the ice time to do so but we are going to create really amazing kids for our future and that is something that is super super important to me reporting in brainer miles Walker Lakeland news Wick as well as as an additional Group of serving Minnesota communities since 1975 and now the weather with Stacy Christenson well it was hot and humid again today and that helped to fire up those strong and severe storms that passed through the area we are still seeing some scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight we aren't anticipating any more severe weather but we could still see some showers and thunderstorms many of us will have at least a chance of those continuing into tomorrow but the heat and humidity is going to stick around at least through the end of the work week right now in buiji at 65 de at the airport at our studio winds are calm the D point is 65 and we did receive 7/10 of an inch of rainfall today in Brainard we're still seeing some light rain at 68 degrees with a d point of 64 pressure is rising and with us tonight on the radar we can see that we still have some showers and thunderstorms out there nothing severe at this moment uh but again there are still a few and parts in northern Minnesota and a little more widespread in the central part of the state we continue to have chances of showers and thunderstorms overnight tonight and then for most of us continuing into at least tomorrow morning uh but again we are going to be seeing um most of that moving off into the eastern part and central part of our viewing area as we head into the afternoon still hot and humid though and that will be bit above our average high temperature and our low temp was 67 buiji with a high of 87 so again very warm out there very humid as well 67 was also the low in buiji here's our forecast for tomorrow Northwest Minnesota should see mostly sunny skies but for the rest of us variable clouds there is chance about a 20 to 40% chance in northern Minnesota of seeing some showers and thunderstorms especially in the morning high temperatures will again reach the low to mid 80s and then as we head into the central part of the state again variable clouds with a a little bit better chance of seeing some showers and thunderstorms around the Brainard and acen areas and high temperatures in the low 80s so here's our forecast showers and thunderstorms continue tonight with otherwise partly to mostly cloudy skies and lows near 63 for tomorrow variable clouds with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in most of the area high temperatures near 83 here's a look at our weekend forecast hot and humid on Friday highs near 87 we do have a chance of some showers and thunderstorms especially late Saturday and Saturday night and then we are going to be seeing some slightly cooler temperatures as we head into next week with highs mainly in the 70s maybe another shot of some showers on Monday back to you thank you Stacy for that forecast and now we are joined with Charli Jagger Charlie I've heard now your local sports with Charlie Jagger one week ago the beiji post 14 Legion Baseball team also known as the centaurs lost to Fergus Falls in the first round of the substate double elimination tournament they LED 5 nothing heading into the final inning before surrendering eight runs and route to a gut-wrenching loss one that could have meant curtains for their run at a second straight turny bid but the Centaur stayed composed rattling off six straight wins including back-to-back victories over host Alexandria on Sunday to punch their ticket to State we were pretty upset after the first game but we knew we had the pitching to get through the losers bracket and we kind of just were thinking why not us it's not obviously where we wanted to start but it's how we got there so it was just kind of a mindset just we showed up there kind of flat and the energy was low but all the rest of the games the energy was high and we were we were ripping that energy is crucial to the centaur's aggressive style of play utilizing their legs on the base paths to force the defense to make plays while also riding the players who are hot on the mound and in the Batters box the squad now heads to St Michael for pool play last year beiji went one and two but this time around they have a pretty solid yet Simple Plan you know same thing we did as substate keep the energy everything keeps going just show grit hopefully our pitchers shove again and hitters hit you you know make the plays that we're supposed to make and I think we'll be just fine feels amazing you know cuz you know second time in a row to do it so hopefully this time we can make it a little further feels amazing all pool play starts tomorrow with beiji playing back-to-back games against Fridley and Shaka then on Friday they'll play Rochester top two teams will advance to the eight team single elimination bracket on Saturday with a champion being crowned on Sunday well the college hockey season may still be a few months away but today BSU men's team and announced their captain and alternates for the 2024 season fifth year senior Jackson jutting will wear the C on his chest and serve as the 63rd captain in program history it will be the second time wearing a letter in his career at beiji state after the forward spent last season as an alternate Captain last year jutting was named cca's best or co- best defensive forward after posting 22 points in 27 games forwards Eric Martin Austin J and Yuri vion will have the alternate Captain a dorning their sweaters all Beaver captains are voted on by returning players during the off season in other men's hockey news the beavs have added an exhibition game to next season's schedule a January 3rd Showdown with the University of Manitoba bison at the Sanford Center it will be the 33rd meeting between the two teams and first since 2007 well the twins still in the Big Apple with a chance to salvage at least one win after dropping the first two games to the Mets Minnesota trailing 2-1 in the third but after back-to-back singles by Trevor lck and Max Kepler twins take a 3-2 lead next batter Royce leis chops one down the line that'll score another and Mets they're looking to get guys going in the pen to replace Lewis sevino but their one batter too late Matt walner with his sixth home run of the Year two-run shot caps a five run inning all five runs scored before ever recording it out as the twins get the last one in Queens beating the Mets 8 to three and they now have a six game they're six games back of the division leading Guardians tied with the Royals still but you know they're trying to make up ground that's awesome they've had a little bit of rough luck but seems like it's turning around yeah hopefully we'll see all right more than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias according to the CDC early diagnosis and intervention might help delay the onset of symptoms and a new study shows a combined blood test for cognitive decline can help with early detection in today's Health minute Mandy gather has more on the test and how it works it's the most common type of Dementia in cases of Alzheimer's disease are expected to continue rising in the US but there's another tool that is providing hope for early diagnosis there have been so many exciting developments when it comes to the world of Alzheimer's and this is another one Dr sanj Gupta says the two-part blood test can measure how much amalo you likely have in your brain That's A protein that clumps together and later becomes plaque in patients with Alzheimer's disease it's not an Alzheimer's test per se saying either you have it or you don't but it's another tool that doctors are likely to start using as part of a more complete evaluation a new study found this combined blood test has a 90% accuracy rate in determining whether memory losses due to alzheimer's in comparison neurologists and other memory specialists directly diagnosed the disease in 73% of cases and primary care doctors had even less success with a 61% accuracy rate there's also these new medications out there with these new blood tests you might be able to follow along how well those medications are working take the medication did the amalo score start to improve as a result of that you can do that in in conjunction with actually looking at someone's real life functioning for health minute I'm Mandy Gaither experts say not to expect blood tests for Alzheimer's to be in a primary care doctor's office anytime soon as more research is needed to verify positive results of studies like this one and guidelines for Physicians using these tests need to be established and distributed now we have a little extra time we're going back to Stacy for some more weather and we'll still see some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the area overnight tonight otherwise partly to mostly cloudy skies lows near 63 variable winds up to about 10 looking at tomorrow we will see a mix of clouds and sunshine throughout the area most of us have at least a chance of seeing some showers and thunderstorms especially in the morning highs near 83 North winds at 5 to 15 looking ahead hot and humid again on Friday with a high near 87 and then we have more chances of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday with a little bit of a cool down as we head into early next week highs near 75 on Monday I know it's summer but a little more hockey stuff we got two local hockey players Kate sangram from Brainard and Casey Carter from Grand Rapids going
