Imagine being a teenager, and not remembering when earthquake drills stopped, and active shooter drills began.
A reality for 17 year old (indistinct) Goldberg, and millions of American students like her.
Last year, the -12 US School Shooting Database recorded the highest number of incidents in 53 years of collection.
As of 2020, firearm related deaths are the leading cause of mortality for children and adolescents between age one and 19.
A group of Seattle youth are fighting to curb that statistic.
The Seattle Student Union is a nonprofit that advocates for the needs of students across the state.
Their most recent victory was helping pass Washington's assault weapons ban.
The Union focused more on gun violence after the May 2022 shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers.
