Facing climate concerns, will King County stop the expansion of Boeing Field?
In her opinion piece, columnist Katie Wilson writes that we're at a critical junction where failing to wrestle the emissions engine into reverse will likely have catastrophic consequences.
(soft ambient music) King County is proposing to expand operations at Boeing Field.
This would increase its footprint by acquiring new property, lengthening the runway, enlarging the fuel farm, and constructing new airplane parking.
This expansion could mean a 30% increase in CO2 emissions by 2035.
Wilson said this will not help to achieve King County's climate goals.
Opposition to the proposed airport expansion goes beyond the climate crisis, as some residents are concerned about increased air and noise pollution.
