It's been 20 months since a cruise ship visited Seattle, but that is about to change.
Five cruise lines will start Alaska cruises from Seattle in July.
The tourism is expected to jumpstart businesses across Western Washington, businesses like Don's Group Attire, which has made Holland America uniforms since 1993.
In 2019, cruise ships brought $900 million in business revenue to the region and accounted for 5,500 jobs.
But the ships' return also reopens a fierce environmental debate.
Elizabeth Burton, an anti-cruise activist with a group called Seattle Cruise Control, says the Seattle cruise industry's climate impact is almost one-third as big as the entire city's annual impact.
Other watchdog groups claim the industry drags its feet on the issues of cleaner fuels and lower emissions.
