House Bill 338 would allow anyone 70 years or older to opt out of the legally required service.
Currently, jurors must request to be excused from the jury pool, and those requests must be reviewed by a judge.
It sponsored by freshman Republican Representative Amy Neighbors of Edmonton.
The idea for the proposal was brought to the legislature by a circuit judge who reviews jury duty jury duty requests and recognizes that the overwhelming number of those who asked to be excluded do so because of a condition associated with their age, neighbor said.
More than 30 other states already have a similar law.
House Bill 338 passed 87 to 4 and is now headed to the Senate for consideration there.
