A 15-year-old girl is among the first Japanese Americans to be sent to incarceration camps
Kay Nakao is a 15-year-old Japanese American girl who was living with her family on Bainbridge Island, WA when Pearl Harbor was bombed. The Japanese Americans from Bainbridge Island were the first in the country to be incarcerated, largely due to their proximity to Naval bases. They were eventually sent to Minidoka, Idaho; one of ten incarceration camps built in remote inland locations.
