This neighborhood came about during a 1912 real estate boom in San Diego. A project of developers Joseph McFadden and George Buxton, it was marketed to the well-to-do in search of "an atmosphere of culture and refinement, sincerity, and truth." They decided to color the sidewalks for a unique touch. A sense of pride still exists in the community of Burlingame, known for their signature sidewalks.
