Police have arrested the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The conservative activist was assassinated on Wednesday while speaking to a large crowd at Utah Valley University.
22 year old Tyler Robinson is in the Utah County Jail.
Police say his father saw surveillance photos of Robinson and worked with a pastor to encourage his son to surrender.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox says Robinson became more political recently and had deep disdain for Kirk's viewpoints.
U.S.
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky spoke about the suspect today while he was in Lexington.
I want justice to be served, and we cannot tolerate this.
And I think he should be punished to the full extent of the law.
And that will be determined by, you know, a jury in Utah that is guilty without question.
This is a horrendous thing.
And the signal needs to be sent to anybody else who thinks they're going to be a copycat of this.
That they're going to meet the same fate.
There are no easy answers.
And, better dialog may be part of the answer.
You know, we will hear each other out.
But really, the reason I don't want to say better dialog is the complete answer is there's never an excuse.
Just because you have bad dialog.
You know, an excuse for some of the shoots of us.
So a better dialog is good.
We should, you know, try to do that.
But there is no excuse for this.
And really, I don't know how we start something like this, because this is someone.
If you had to imagine, I don't have to go inside.
And here it is.
Lost their mom.
They don't believe in right or wrong.
And they think killing is okay.
But you do see people online who would be deeply glorified when Charlie Kirk died.
You saw those two people responded online, you know, terrible images of it, lauding it, saying, it's a great thing.
Those people should be shunned.
But that's not really the law so much.
But those people should not be accepted in good society and they should be shot.
Yeah.
Senator Paul was in Lexington to speak at Commerce Lexington's public policy luncheon, where he criticized tariffs and stressed the need to balance the federal budget.
