- We have Alice right here.
- Alice, salute.
- [Zach] She is a very happy and excited elephant to be around people.
She enjoys doing all the training that she gets to do.

♪ And all ♪ - [Ken] We were playing up there earlier, Kevin was, and they're kind of coming around and listening to the tune.

♪ And then I hear you say ♪ ♪ My little brother's name ♪ - [Ken] Aside from being an incredibly gifted musician and songwriter, he's built a giant community here in Albuquerque with young kids and music called Rock 101.
And I thought how appropriate, 'cause elephants are based on community and communicate through vibration.
So just like what Kevin does.
- [Kevin] I started playing music with friends in high school, and that's really where I found the magic was in music was collaboration and the conversation of music.
And it's such an amazing community builder.
It's this medium that we use to connect with people.
We tried to capture that and create this environment where people can come as they were, be accepted and communicate with others.
And yeah, now it's this vibrant community of young and old, and a central part of it is music and the love of connection.
I think working with the young ones, it continues to inspire me.
I mean, honestly it's a part of my own songwriting journeys to be a part of these kids' lives and see them turn into young songwriters themselves.
It's amazing to me too, and it's encouraging.

They're amazing.
I think it was freshman year of high school.
I was on this trip.
Someone had ran into Barnes & Noble and grabbed this little demo CD, and it was Jack Johnson's CD.
It was in that moment, songwriting kind of clicked for me.
It needs to just be simple and vulnerable and truthful.
And that's how Jack writes and continues to write, and he inspired me.
♪ Ooh, in another life ♪ ♪ Would she still be mine ♪ - [Kevin] And I wrote my first song freshman year of high school.
Every since that understanding of what songwriting is... - She's cool, she's just gonna get a little closer.
- [Kevin] I always took songwriting as this way of just, just writing something that means something to me and understanding that's the only way to really connect with people is to be truthful, to not try to write for anyone else but myself.
♪ One's onto us ♪ ♪ And all of my life ♪ ♪ I've missed your soul ♪ ♪ I just didn't know ♪ - [Kevin] The collaboration piece is huge, you know?
So getting to play with a lot of musicians along the way has been awesome.
Tonight we'll be playing with a five-piece band, but often we play with a duo or a trio, or I'll play solo gigs.
So it's a lot of fun seeing what these songs, the shape they take with different groups and different personalities and different conversations.
