19th century American sculptor William Wetmore Story, an expat living in Rome, produced masterworks in statuary. One of his seminal works, King Saul Under the Influence of the Evil Spirit, has been added to the permanent collection at the NC Museum of Art. We follow the statue’s journey from the sculptor’s studio to private ownership to public display.
