We're Kiss the Tiger, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and we're so happy to be here.
Thanks for joining us.
Meghan, can you tell us a little bit about Kiss the Tiger and how the band got started?
Yeah, we've been a band now for about eight years, and we started because I met my partner, Michael, who's the rhythm guitar player, and he said, "I've always wanted to have a woman singer in one of my bands," and we kind of just had this impromptu jam session and then eventually started asking key players to kind of form a more solid, permanent thing with us.
And we've had some rotation in our membership and then have brought new people along with us along the way.
So, yeah, we've been doing this for shy of a decade now, but kind of getting close to that 10-year mark.
Yeah.
If someone has never heard your music before, how would you describe it to them?
I would say it's very energetic, rockin'.
I mean, I think, generally, genre-wise, when people ask what type of music we play, we say rock 'n' roll.
Like, that's kind of the spirit of what we do musically.
And it's upbeat, and I think it's moving, and I think it impacts people in a positive and a powerful way.

Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, Patti Smith, The Pretenders.
I think kind of like, musically, those are a lot of the big influences that come a little bit more from the sort of '70s, early '80s.
There are a lot of more modern musicians that we're really into and feel inspired by.
Um, few of those are like Brittany Howard, Alabama Shakes, The War on Drugs, also The War and Treaty.
I was just thinking about them.
Well, they're just an awesome group.
Yeah.
Yeah, there's just -- there's so many awesome musicians existing now that influence us all the time.
Along with those where you pull kind of your musical influence, I think something that defines your band is the live show.
And I think that's how you've been able to gain fans in new cities and kind of unsuspecting audiences.
Are there people outside of the the performers who you listed who are all great, great performers in their own right, but who, you know, whether it's their stage presence or their charisma or how they interact with the audiences that you take inspiration from?
Yeah, Karen O. I didn't mention the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but Karen O definitely is somebody that I kind of have studied, I guess, or just I admire her stage presence and her fearlessness.
And also Mitski.
Like, I hadn't seen her live until a couple of years ago, but seeing her live in, like, a large sort of festival setting, I was really taken aback by just, like, her physical gesture on stage and how, from far away, she helps communicate the music through her physical presence and sort of choreography on stage.
And she's very theatrical and sort of performance-arty.
And I -- I was really moved by that and learned a lot by watching her perform live, as well.
This is such an honor to be here playing at Iowa PBS, in Studio 3.
Thank you so much for coming to be our live, in-studio audience.
