Hi, everyone.
I'm Jim Myers.
Today's session features Kristen Warren and Creek.
Hailing from the Florida Space Coast, Kristen Warren is an accomplished singer and theater performer with an elegant and timeless voice.
Creek, the trio of musicians accompanying her is comprised of of keyboardist Daniel Tenbusch, bassist Thomas Milovac and drummer Ashton Gould.
Before the session, we had a chance to talk to Kristen and the band about how they began playing together, their varied musical influences, their upcoming plans and more.
>>Hi, everybody.
My name is Kristen Warren.
I'm here with the phenomenal band Creek, and we are honored to be playing Melrose In The Mix.
Say can you meet me At the corner of Robinson and Rosalind Falling in whatever were calling this What it is Say can you see me From the front and the back Of my mind From my day dreams and night dreams You happen to occupy, my love I'm going insane on the inside Think I woke up on the wrong side I tried telling you what was on my mind But nothing leaves my mouth [MUSIC] [VOCALIZING] Eyes like the galaxy no gravity is holding me.
You are a daydream.
Amazing, amazing Ascending, ascending Send me to space.
With kisses across my face As many times as there are Stars in the sky You are a daydream You are amazing, amazing [VOCALIZES] [MUSIC] Send me to space, with kisses across my face.
As many times as there are stars in the sky.
You are a daydream, you are amazing, amazing.
Ascending, ascending, ascending, ascending, ascending send me.
Send me to space.
Send me to space, send me to space.
[MUSIC ENDS] Normally it starts with with them with the inspiring inspiring chords or something that just that just moves me and I'll say, Oh, I have to, I have to write to that.
That's how a lot of our, our ah, I think best tunes have come about is just for collaboratively.
I'll hear something that Ethan's written or Daniel's written and I'll take it and just kind of try to pull from my life whatever is going on at that particular time.
And a lot of my songs are about real things.
And in people that are in my life.
And so we we just kind of and then we just kind of build from there together, I would say.
>>Yeah.
I mean, I guess a lot of them start as instrumental tunes that we might have played as Creek, but I would say most of them were probably written at some point by Ethan.
And then if Kristen hears a song that she really likes, if she's here, that's rehearsing it.
>>Its mine!
>>Yeah.
And that and we have that understanding if it's and also I think of like I think one of the tunes we're going to play today started as an instrumental tune that I wrote and you said you wanted to sing.
I was like, that's I can't I'm I couldn't be more excited.
>>Yeah.
[MUSIC] So I wrote this song about when you know, you've met someone who's one of a kind.
Kind of like how certain comets like Halley's Comet.
If if you witness it, it's a once in a lifetime thing.
And I believe there are people like that as well.
And my hope for anyone listening and watching, I hope you meet your comet.
Loves like a comet in the sky.
And I am longing so for it too And I'm confessing now that I, I believe my comet is you.
Respect my mind respect my soul And never ever raise a hand too.
I know it's time to let you know, I believe my comets you.
Come on and be my friend, my falling star, come on and by the blessing that you are.
Come on and be my friend my falling star, come on and baby be the blessing that you are.
[SCATTING] Loves like a car careening by.
I'm standing in the street for it too.
You come but once in a lifetime And I know that my comet is you.
[MUSIC] Loves like a car careening by Im standing in the street for it too.
You come but once in a lifetime I know that my comet is you.
I know that my comet is you.
Yeah, I know that my comet is you.
[MUSIC ENDS] Excited for the whole set today.
But Your Blue especially is prime example of what we described.
That song started off in my living room.
I had invited Ethan to come over weekly because we wanted to work on a project together, and I said, I if you have any chords that you're playing that you don't have any words to, just, just, just play it and just let me hear it.
[MUSIC] I wrote the song with the missing member of Creek, shoutout Ethan Bailey-Gould you're with this spirit right now.
He's in Baltimore studying music at Peabody, and we're so proud of him and we love him.
He played these chords for me in my living room few years ago, and I wrote the song that kind of wrote itself.
And it's all about being in love on the beach, and it's called Your Blue.
[MUSIC] Yellow flecks of sun reflect upon your olive skin Ivory sand dots onyx hands drenched in melanin Periwinkle clouds and crimson hearts cant be apart Green to love And when I am with you, sweetheart, all the world is just us two.
All my world is you Sweetheart, my sky, your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.
Yellow flecks of sun reflect upon your olive skin Ivory sand dots onyx hands drenched in melanin Periwinkle clouds and crimson hearts cant be apart Green to love And when Im with you, sweetheart, all the world is just us two.
All my world is you, sweetheart, my sky your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.

[MUSIC] And when I am with you sweetheart all the world is just us two.
All my world is you sweetheart, my sky your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.
Your blue.
[VOCALIZING] My sky, your blue Your blue.
[VOCALIZING] [MUSIC ENDS] I have wanted to do this show for years.
I have wanted to play this for a long time.
I think this is phenomenal.
I just think this is a dream come true for creative people.
I've known about the Melrose Center for some years now, and I just think it's just such a fantastic chance for someone that's interested in making music or editing photos or whatever your thing is.
This is a great place to kind of like hone your skill.
And I, I've, I think this is wonderful and I wish every library had it.
You know, I love I love performing in unexpected places.
[MUSIC] Fire fire, fire, fire, fire fire, fire.
[MUSIC] Fire, elevate When you ignite my imagination baby.
Take me higher elevate When you set on fire my emotions baby >>We recorded, Creek recorded a bunch of our original music.
That's.
That's stuff that Kristen didn't, has not claimed yet.
I mean, you're welcome to.
>>I was there.
It was.
>>No, I know, but she said Yeah, we sang a couple of tunes too.
Of course.
Yeah.
But I think we're hoping to release an Instrumental Creek record sometime in early 2023.
And then what about you?
What do you think in terms of a Kristen Warren plus Creek album?
>>Yeah, yeah, I, I, I would like to release that around the same time.
>>Thanks for joining us for this episode of Melrose in the Mix featuring Kristen Warren and Creek.
We'll see you again soon with another live recording session here in the Melrose Center at the Orlando Public Library.
