I'm Mark Harmon.
And tonight we are live from Johns Creek, Georgia, Chattahoochee High School.
As the Cougars get rid of take on the Longhorns of Lambert and John Nelson, we have the best seat in the house.
You aren't kidding.
We are here on the pavilion to get a bird's eye view of a key region matchup marked in week two of the regular season.
The Chattahoochee Cougars, of course, won the Class four state championship at the Georgia Dome last year.
Also right now on the worldwide web, we are webcasting the Blessed Trinity game at Grady.
Check it out at GPB Dawgs Sports.
And every week this fall, GPB will bring you to live high school football games on Friday nights.
One on the Web, one on TV leading up to the coverage of all five state championships in December from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The air is filled with excitement here at Chattahoochee High School.
The Cougars getting ready to kick off the season against the Lambert Longhorns.
They've already played a game and won over Northwest Whitfield.
So now let's go to the guys.
It'll call this game Gil Tyree, Dave Hunter and Trey McDaniel.
Guys.
But we're down the football game since 2011.
And with me right now.
The great coach, Dave Hunter.
You've spent many a day on this football field.
Your thoughts about tonight?
Well, we played here the last time in 2000.
Charlie Whitehurst was the quarterback for the hooch.
It was a rainstorm.
Thank goodness for us, Gale.
And then we won 10 to 7 in a tough game is a tough place to play, but it'll be an exciting football game.
Lambert has their hands full, a tough place to play, but it should be an exciting football game.
And the operative word, of course, is electric.
We bring in the newest member of our GB team, Trey McDaniel.
You can't get any better than this out of the gate.
Lambert and Chattahoochee in a tough region.
Absolutely.
One of the toughest regions in the state.
Gil, these two teams, if you'll remember, Gil finished one two in their region last year and they've got to face each other in game one this week because of the 11 teams in this region.
Every team will play a full ten game region schedule, so the defending champions will come out and they'll have to defend their title right off the bat.
And a big time donnybrook out of the gate, Mark Harmon.
Now back to you upstairs.
All right, alongside now, John Nelson and Jacki Britton.
John, a region game right off the bat for both these teams.
And really with Lambert, it could be a signature win when it comes to this.
If Lambert in their third year of going on as a football program gets a win, this can they could really put on their mantel.
Jacki Britton, we've upped your responsibilities this week.
Yes, Mark, I will not only be taking care of social media this week, but I will also be giving you updates on the other high school football games around the state.
Then at halftime, we're going to do two segments of rent check, which is where we check in on some of the parents of the student athletes and see how much they really know about their son.
Then at the very end of the game, we will have student player and coaches interviews.
You'll be a busy, busy young lady.
Another busy lady is Jacqui Wardlow, our meteorologist, who's going to check in with the game time forecast Chrissy.
Thanks, Mark.
Hi, I'm urologist Chrissy Waller with your kickoff forecast.
Earlier today, we were at as high as 96 degrees.
And can you believe it?
Here in the city of Atlanta, we actually got to 80 degrees or 82 days straight of 90 degree temperatures.
It has been a hot one.
And even though the sun is starting to go down the horizon tonight, we are still kicking off with the temperature of 89 degrees.
So it's very important to make sure that water is in that tailgate cooler because you're going to need to drink it.
It is still hot out here.
But if we take a look at the radar, we see that today we are lucky.
We do not have these showers coming towards us.
The little bits up in South Carolina are starting to diminish.
But overall, we're going to have a beautiful forecast for us for the rest of the today of today.
So if we go into the first quarter through the halftime and into the fourth quarter, we see that partly cloudy skies, 89 will decrease in temperatures to 86 by halftime and we'll be at 84 degrees by the fourth quarter.
So there you go and I'll give you an update at halftime on your weather.
Chris, thanks very much.
Time now to check out the GPB scoreboard and one game almost in the books right now.
It's on our webcast right now.
GPB Morgan Sports That's Blessed Trinity taking on Grady.
They're going at it right now and it's a very close game of 7 to 3 at the half.
Thomas County Central is taking on Colquitt County tonight.
It is Madison Tucker.
That is always a huge game.
Collins Hill and Brooke, what a big game in class five, a Lamberts at Chattahoochee.
We've got that one live for in just a minute.
Carver Columbus taking on the undefeated Buford Wolves.
It's Banneker taking on Creekside Sprayberry will play Lassiter Stephenson takes on cedar groves this evening McEachern at Lands That was a great one last year Should be a good one again this time at plays Cal Peachtree Ridge will take on Roswell.
Let's now take a look at what's coming up a little bit later down the line on GPB and GPB dot org.
We've got great, great games for you.
Next week, Newnan will travel to the Lion's Den to take on Peachtree Ridge.
We'll have that game for you starting about 721.
You can check out the TV and the Web games.
The first six weeks are pretty much set.
After that, we're going to pick the very best game to bring your way the rest of the way and all the way to the Georgia Dome.
So we've got you covered from Ringgold about RCA from Savannah will arrange to bring you the very best in high school football right here on GPB.
Now joining us now is the author of a couple of books on high school football, including the recently published Let Me Get This Right, Georgia High School Football.
Pete State Pigskin History Sounds Good.
Our own Jon Nelson in the segment we call John's, George and John.
He has a very great story tonight about an Atlanta Falcon and the folks up at Locust Grove High School, Michael Palmer.
A tight end for the Falcons was the Parkview guy.
And so after he saw what happened at Locust Grove and Fitzgerald, as they lost some kids to heat exhaustion this past summer, he wanted to do something special.
Bring him to Atlanta, have him see the Falcons and the Ravens game.
We caught up with head coach Clint Satterfield of Locust Grove about the message that Michael gave him beforehand.
Well, you know, it was a what happened before was a tragedy.
And just anything positive like that.
Michael did was tremendous.
We actually showed the video mail that he sent us before we went off on the bus to our first game.
It was just uplifting.
And I know the guys here really appreciate it.
And you'll have more on that coming up at halftime, right?
Forrest Jones, a great part of that, the Locust Grove community.
And you get to see about what's going on there as well.
What's topic number two?
Topic number two is what's going on at Ringgold High School, a community also trying to recover from that tornado.
They win week one against Lakeview, Fort Oglethorpe, Week two.
They kind of got a rivalry game now against Murphy of North Carolina.
So they're up there and hopefully we'll have an update for you for the Ringgold Murphy game in the postgame show.
Mark, what's topic number three?
Topic number three is how our teams from Georgia faring against teams from out of the state.
Week one, they were seven and five going up against schools outside the state of Georgia and they're five matchups this week where you have teams, most of them up in the north Georgia mountains playing teams from North Carolina.
But the best matchup might be in Ohio.
Camden County traveling to the Herb Street mark to take on the tar blotters of Glen Ridge.
The tar white tar blood, tar blotters.
Okay, I haven't heard of them, but we'll keep them in mind.
Now, just a few hours ago at Chattahoochee High School, they held a big pep rally here.
And so we'll just take a look at some great high school pep.
I think that reminds us all of our high school days and go on to those great pep rallies on Friday afternoons.
Well, we're going to take a short break.
We're going to come back.
We're getting close to kickoff.
Chattahoochee and Lambert.
Don't touch that dial.
We've got more for you coming your way on GPB, Friday Night Football.
Welcome back to week two of our Football Fridays in Georgia.
Here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
We're live from Johns Creek, Georgia.
The Chattahoochee Cougars are just about ready to put their 15 game winning streak on the line tonight against the Longhorns of Lambert.
It's close to kick off.
It's just about here.
Want to?
It's not my job.
On land that once belonged to the Cherokee before they were ordered to leave by Andrew Jackson on what became the historic Trail of Tears now rises the wealthiest city in Georgia, Johns Creek suburb of Atlanta, with 76,000 residents in a high school that has the highest college test scores in the state and is a blue ribbon school of excellence.
Chattahoochee High School.
The last time we saw their football team was in December at the Georgia Dome when undefeated Cougars walked off the gridiron with the state championship team now scoring tonight as they pinned their hopes of returning to the dome for a repeat of their historic win, they first have to get past the upstart Lambert Longhorns, a team poised to be the next major force in Georgia.
High school sports tonight the cougars uncaged on GPB Football Fridays.
Enjoy the football.
That's a championship team right there on top.
Welcome back to Football Fridays in Georgia here on GPB.
Tonight's game is an interactive event.
You can participate via the World Wide Web and explain all that is our social media maven Jacki Britton.
Jacki.
Thank you.
Mark.
I will be the social media correspondent throughout tonight's game.
So we encourage all of our viewers to get online and chat with us at GPB dot org slash sports.
This is where we encourage our viewers to tell us your favorite players are tell us who you think is going to win tonight's matchup.
They usually get the conversation going, but also, you know, the saying there's an app for that.
Well, now we have an app for you.
There's an app for GPB Sports.
And before we get to that, we're also going to talk about our poll that we had, and that is about the new Georgia High School Association vote that they made this week about the new classification extensions.
And we have that online at GPB Dawgs Sports.
So be sure to get online and vote and tell us what you guys think.
Mark, back to you.
Are you ready for some football?
That's the big question.
Time to go up to the broadcast booth and to our trio of talented broadcasters, Gil Tyree, Dave Hunter and Trey McDaniel.
Take it away, fellas.
We bring you from Johns Creek here in the arena where tonight the region, seven quad, eight, donnybrook.
Straight up, it.
Will be the Longhorns, the Glamor and the Cougars of Chattahoochee, the defending four.
Eight state gym.
With me right after Daniel Wilkinson, the match up up top for a lot of things including the David Brody six foot four £210 skill really talented quarterback a little under the radar because this is only a seventh year school and a very talented quarterback already been offered by USC Charlotte.
But the real star of the show tonight is going to be as offensive line is running game an average of.
£260 and coach wants to make this like he said yesterday on the phone I want to make this a tractor meet, not a track meet.
And that means he's going to run the football down the Chattahoochee Cougars sore throats all night long for Chattahoochee.
You open up defending state champions.
The pressure.
The pressure's tough.
You've got to get over that.
I've been there one time.
You got to get over that.
Throw that rain to the side.
The play for this season, make everybody try to forget that we're about one down at a time.
That's what you got to do to make it work.
And coach.
Owner for Chattahoochee, the go to.
Guy Will Johnson.
Will Johnson is their Pied Piper Dale.
He is the guy that coach says everyone on the football field looks up to everyone on his team.
He's 511 184 three 640, bend over by six s. He sees schools including South Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas, and he's leaning toward Arkansas.
All right.
That leads us to our steps to success.
And Coach Hunter, it is all yours.
Chattahoochee steps us.
It says, I've got to take care of the football sound in the kicking game.
The quarterback, Travis Marshall, must have an excellent game.
And this is his first start.
And they've got to be physical on defense.
And on the Lambert side.
Lambert They've got to make no mistakes, no penalties, no turnovers.
They've got to execute their game plan through team play.
And the court, the coach, they got to play fast and got to react very quickly.
All right, Coach.
Thank you, Trey McDaniel.
It's a great atmosphere for high school football.
You're a proponent, you're passionate.
This thing is about ready to get underway.
We had fans on the field gear.
We had cheerleaders on the field.
We had inflatable helmets, people running through banners.
But now we're getting down to business with the kickoff.
All right.
Brendan Everett of Lambert kicks off and the up man is number 23 for Chattahoochee, correct me.
That is 33.
That is straight heart.
And Trey heart is it down at about the Chattahoochee 12 yard line and the Cougars will take over first at ten.
The Lambert Longhorns actually won the toss today and I deferred to kick off in this up to kick off to Chattahoochee.
And in return they will receive the football in the second half.
Coach, your.
Thought happens a lot in high school football, particularly in the season.
The coaches are very concerned.
They're concerned about nerves.
Travis Marshall opens for for the Cougars at quarterback.
Your thoughts about Travis Marshall, Trent Travis Marshall, very talented.
631 80 coach said he's a Brandon Cross type.
For those of you who don't know Brendan Cross, the predecessor to Timmy Byerly, who led them to a championship last year.
All right.
The kid is 221 and Chattahoochee.
That straight ahead.
That's Chase Nelson, one of the.
Great sophomore tailbacks.
The Coach Crowder talking about this week.
Coach Hunter just raves about him.
You see on the replay, they run the inside zone play and a quarterback reads it and hands it good, good.
Running back number 21 to think player a little bit shorter kind of kind of reminds you some of those big, strong running backs from Georgia.
Yeah.
750 yards last year as a freshman.
All right.
That was a first down.
That set up another first down for a Chattahoochee marshall scrambling, looking for his receiver.
And he has it complete.
But pushed out of bounds over at.
The about the 20 yard line of the 22 yard line of Chattahoochee was Will Johnson.
Is the starting lineup for Chattahoochee Gillison at Center, Bloomin Keith at Guard and Hazelton and Williams at Tackle Central in the backfield.
The wide receiver of Rubin reads this Kerkovich Yes, is the wide receiver Kingsbury High halfback Marshall and Nelson Parsons incomplete.
That'll bring up a second and ten for Chattahoochee at their own 19 again the spread and the spread is something they like the running a deal they already tried to get the ball to their team leader Will Johnson look for him to do it again.
Art Marshall finds his receiver in the flat.
That's Trey Hart in the slot.
It'll get up to about the 25 and that'll be a gain of about six.
It'll set up about a third in four.
Got to be on your toes if you're the Lambert defense, because they're throwing the kitchen sink at you.
All right.
Set this through the Lambert defense.
Dre McFadden is going to be Kendrick czajkowski fairly and minor up front for the Lambert defense stovall man yet in hand at the linebacker positions and in the secondary we've got Braxton, Roman Edgeworth Schuster and Zack Price early on here at the Arena in Johns Creek, Chattahoochee, and Lambert Open.
You enjoying your Labor Day holiday here with us at GPB and Marshall out of the shotgun is sacked and takes a loss on the play and that'll that'll back up Chattahoochee some more.
Drake That's one way to neutralize the passing game is to get after the quarterback and couldn't tell right there if Marshall wanted to try to run the ball.
But he didn't have much of a choice.
The guys were on him in about two beats.
Oh, you see the shotgun.
And then you see Lambert right there on the on the tackle for Lambert was 66 Grant Farley a 510 nose guard, £230 junior.
I'll bring up a punting situation for Chattahoochee at their own 11 punt and over end taken by the coach's son.
And that is across the.
Backs of Brock Brock.
Brock mocks Maxwell and it will take him and that'll bring it up first and ten inside of Chattahoochee territory at about the Chattahoochee 45 or 46 the quarterback of of Lambert a good.
Longhorn comes on come the Longhorns come on offense with David Broadus at quarterback I've got great field position great start for them Yale this train this and that first series so they've got what they wanted to start with a great field position and a short field.
And they come out with a no receiver set.
You all right?
Brody's first and ten at the Chattahoochee 46 to give to number three for Chattahoochee.
Daniel Myers, five foot £588 junior Trey McDaniel.
Take us through the Lambert offensive line.
It's going to be Nixon, Bauer, Barfield, Peterson and Doom up front averaging £260 on that O-line.
T.J.. Russell, Maxwell Myers, big tight end six six Chris Lay and Reed Gill at the skill positions.
All right.
No gain for Myers.
That'll bring up a second and ten or I should say a gain of two.
Make it a second and eight for the Longhorns at the Chattahoochee, 46 again, that is Myers over center gets about one and that'll bring up about 13 seven three.
McDaniel set up the Chattahoochee defense.
All right.
It will be Brandon Keith, Travis Marshall and Majid Bilal up on the front.
It'll be Towson able guard Jake Kingery and Chase Nelson.
The linebacking corps and the DBS are Currituck Davis, Hart, Leggett, Johnson and Wynn.
Easy for me to say, huh?
How about you, Coach?
Okay, thank you.
I've been practicing.
Better than me.
We had a pronunciation seminar this week with Coach Crowder.
Oh, a lot of names start in six with Lambert at there at the Chattahoochee 42.
The spread out by Broadus looking for a receiver.
Tries to find his receiver.
Number one, rebuild a pass.
He's incomplete at the Chattahoochee.
21 yard line.
And in a way, Lambert will have to punt.
The Longhorns will have to punt.
You see that?
Come in a double wink set and run a half back, sweet with with a half back, pass on it off of it.
And Maxwell throws the ball a little bit overthrown, coming that balance set with two tight ends and two ways to try to get the defense to balance up and then try to run where they have the advantage.
The numbers look like Will Johnson was over there defending on the point.
Absolutely.
And it's got to make a coach sick.
They got the ball great field position and now they're forced upon three point out in a bad snap.
Okay.
You see the butt right there.
The punt by Maxwell.
And and the loose football alive football and Chattahoochee almost saw.
Lambert take it in the end zone but Johnny on the spot for the Chattahoochee Cougars, 33, was right there.
And that was Trey.
That was great heart right on.
It made a great play to get back on it.
Yes, we lost it in the lights.
Called for a fair catch.
Bounces off his shoulder pad.
PRIEST Little early season jitters.
They don't get a preseason game coach just their first game of the year battle back up Chattahoochee Big time battle mark at first and ten deep in their own territory at about their own two you get a look at the back of the quarterback Marshall and the kids 21 straight ahead that is Chase Nelson gets a gain of about one.
And when you backed up like this coach early on, your thoughts what's the what's the game play.
Where you want to get you want to get some breathing room but I think you're in my opinion the coach has got to be conscious of trying to get the first down can't just play to punt the ball are going to be in the same situation they were just in.
I think you see him get a little bit a little conservative there about him.
Open it up just a little bit here.
Second and ten for Chattahoochee.
Get their.
Own two.
And Marshall out of the shotgun in the right flat, he finds his receiver Trey Hart.
Trey Hart takes it up to about the ten yard line and is forced out of bounds.
Draymond Then that's just what Coach was talking about.
Gil They still come out in a spread formation despite being pinned down inside the five yard line and a good game there that got out to the ten yard line, three yards to go.
For a first down.
Those little quick flare to the inside receiver, very safe play.
Got it.
Third, third down and one.
A long one.
A very long one at their own 12 scoreless early on here at the Arena in Johns Creek, Chattahoochee and Lambert.
To give straight ahead.
And the ball carrier right.
There, Chase Nelson.
Picks it up for the first down yard.
It's about to be four teams right?
Trey can see that.
He can see the hand.
Excuse me, the handoff inside again, the inside zone play big, strong runner.
And Coach, you talked about it.
The fact that you got to get positive yards you deep in your own territory and you know to be able to get something going.
We saw Marshall go out.
It looks like they're going to the Wildcat and the give straight ahead.
It looks like again it is.
Nelson or correct that.
It is number seven four.
On the other side.
C.J Leggett and coach crowder talked about the fact that he wanted to go scripted plays early on in his football game.
In fact, he said you're about ten scripted plays.
I think they worried he may have gotten off of that script when I would have backed up on the goal.
The Wildcat again go.
I to give is to Leggett the sophomore gets over to 20 up to about 222 and in on the tackle four for four Lambert is Danny Edwards strong safety 6 to £176 junior Tristan Gilder.
Changing it up here, bringing in Leggett, taking the direct snap, and they've got the Lambert defense back on their heels a little bit.
Another third and one play here for the Cougars.
All right, Coach.
Again out of the World Cup.
Take us through the.
List of things.
That's almost like the old saying of winning.
I think it's a little bit short.
Chase Nelson with the carry takes it up to about the 24 yard line or possibly the 26 going to be close.
Gil But I think they're a little shy of victory.
Looks like they're going to run the punting unit on time.
Given Haiti is is the WHO is putting number 16.
Kevin Haney will come in to to punt.
For.
Four Chattahoochee.
And.
Deep two receiving for Lambert is Zack Price Zack Price will take the ball will receive at his own 45 yard line Eddie Marbles it just gets it off a pooch kick and it gets over to 35 out of bounds at about the 38.
And it did.
Lambert with an opportunity Trey McDaniel and coach honor to work with a short for you take us through.
And say the stamps a little bit low there's a field explaining that getting off to the side if you look at both possessions, Lambert had the ball on the 47 yard line.
The first time on Chattahoochee, 47 that they've got them, Chattahoochee 39.
They need to get some points.
And he did a great job there just to get the ball off.
But once again, like Coach said, they're stuck in the same situation.
Let's see if this time the Longhorns can capitalize on good field position.
The first and ten for Lambert and they have an opportunity to work with the short field illustrates that hoping that they can catch in the single back behind Broadus is meyer's 607 to go here in the first quarter a scoreless ballgame at the arena on the campus of Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek.
In Motion is Maxwell gets around the 40 turns the corner 35 down inside the 30 to back down to the Chattahoochee 28 But there is some yellow and I'm not talking about uniforms.
This is this is the quick toss.
Georgia Tech's made famous out of the wishbone, looking very similar to what the Longhorns were running.
They outflanked him and he got it to the outside.
Of the final play.
Lambert showing a little bit of speed there, although it may be called back, he just cursed Davis just in pursuit.
He just couldn't get the corner in time.
It was called coach.
You saw the flag on the play.
He had a late hit.
Late hit right on the out of bounds line, I think.
And Trey and Coach, we've seen early on, if it's the first two weeks of this season, lots of yellow, a lot of use, and you're going to see that that's pretty typical.
The NFL, I think we all think they play too many preseason games, but at least they have an opportunity to work the kinks out.
But in college and here at the high school level, you get thrown right into the fire.
And although Lambert has won a football game against Northwest Whitfield, this is the defending state champs first game.
They make a huge mistake here halfway through the first quarter and it's going to be inside the red zone for the Longhorns for the first time and the red zone to be exactly there at the 11.
And they'll be a bring up a first and goal.
For.
Lambert coach.
Well, I think at the officials, the first game or two two and they sometimes they might do a little too much of that stuff with that Hector.
Spoken like a coach Broadus the fake to Myers takes it inside over left guard advances the football down to about the Chattahoochee content gain of about one and Gill.
This is what Lambert wants to do They want to grind this game down to a snail's pace and run the ball three or four yards at a time.
Wear out the Chattahoochee defense, get in the hands of like, you know, what Coach talked about earlier.
Coach Maxwell said he wanted this to be a tractor pull, not a track meet.
But we're seeing that definitely early on in this football game.
LAMBERT Second and four at the Chattahoochee six scoreless here at Johns Creek, Chattahoochee and Lambert region seven quarter.
But give is to the coaches son that is Maxwell on the end of round he gets down to about the five but you saw flags on the play little inside handoff.
Little coach.
Yeah they got to play flipped the tight end to try to get up and balance on the top of the screen and then ran the counter sweep them the signature play of the wing the offense to that side.
But I think they're going to have a holding card.
That would negate the run by Brock Maxwell and Rox Maxwell course causes the coaches who to coach and sit Maxwell wonderful story coach Hunter.
And.
You brought up the fact that this is a very good baseball player too.
And in number 13 you.
See the lot counter sweep number 64 is the lead blocker.
They get a chop block, top blocks where you block below the waist, someone too far down the field, they got it in.
The linemen tackle the tackle boxes are the only people that can block below the waist.
There was daddy said all right union point to ABC you see the brain trust you see the younger Maxwell and you see quarterback Rhoda Silverberg talking to the coaching staff.
Brock Maxwell was the player of the year in baseball in Region seven and in Forsyth County.
As a sophomore.
Coach, Maxwell said he hit a home run every five at bats.
That's impressive, no matter what level.
All right.
Second at four for the Lambert Longhorns at the Chattahoochee 22, Gill, Tyree, Trey Daniel and coach Dave Hunter.
The end around and in the open is Brock Maxwell and the pass is incomplete.
A little trickery early on.
Yeah, they're trying to pick up a chunk of yardage there on second down to make it third and manageable, but instead with an incomplete pass, it's going to be third.
Coach Hunter on the replay route, they run the sweep again and then Maxwell is at quarterback and they put Broaddus at the wingback.
They pay the tailback and he takes about throws it back to the maximum.
I'm sure Chattahoochee probably saw that coming when they switched positions third and about 16 or 17.
Big play for both teams.
Reed Gill entering the football game for Lambert and as coach said, second and 17/2 and long for Lambert at the Chattahoochee 22.
Gala football game.
Early on here.
The game straight ahead is to Meyer's over the 15 down to close to the ten and that will not be enough for a first down, but definitely in field goal range.
So you need a push.
Well, they bring Reed Gill in, like you said, and he leads in the caravan and lays a good block and leads the way there.
For Daniel Myers, it still does bring up a fourth down and five.
Coach Maxwell said he would only be comfortable with a field goal inside the 25 and he's found himself there here in the first quarter.
And C.J.
Leggett on the tackle.
Oh, Everett will attempt a field goal from about 32 yards out.
It's up.
It looks good and it is good with the field goal by Koval makes it three nothing Lambert early on we'll be back with more here at the arena and at Johns Creek Lambert up by three over Chattahoochee.
Really pretty good.
What did she tell you?
She wanted to do that.
But by advancing, you guys move from the back to Hootie what is this weekend in Columbus is experiencing and and making industry tonight by application.
Thank you for.
The promo one tune in to GPB for the new season of Georgia traveling from the mountains to the coast, our traveling team explored the state's most beautiful, exciting and unique treasures.
Don't miss Georgia Traveler at their new time, Sundays at seven right here on the great GPB.
I know Trey McDaniels, a traveler we already established last week that coach Dave Hunter is a traveler.
You thoughts about that program, right?
Prime time, you know, get a chance to go around the state.
I would like to have more time to go around the state, but I'm spending all this quality time with you guys in a very confined space.
I know you guys before, but we're getting to know each other on a much more intimate level here tonight.
But we're glad to have you here tonight.
Trey McDaniel joins us here every Friday night on Football Fridays in the booth with the great former Brookwood coach Dave Hunter.
In fact, this man, Trey McDaniel, played for Coach Hunter back in the day, still recovering.
Coach Everett, short kick.
And at Chattahoochee moment, you will take over first offense and again pretty good field position Trey McDaniel for Chattahoochee to start things off.
Absolutely.
And I'm sure Will Johnson would like to take that out of the end zone.
But of course, we all know at the high school level that goes into the end zone, it's an automatic touchback.
So we'll have to see his four or five sub four or five speed on display maybe here in this next sequence, Coach Hunter.
Chattahoochee is kind of fortunate, really.
The two only down three right now with with a poor possession, really.
They've had two possessions and have given the Longhorns the ball both times well inside their territory.
Chattahoochee in the middle huddle and Marshall out of the shotgun with the spread bad snap and he can't get away from anybody and he has sacked at the 15 Trey McDaniel mistakes here in the early going both on punt snapping and they're from the talented senior center Kalon gillison six two £280 had a hard time getting the ball to his quarterback a little bit low and a little bit too much velocity good job there by Travis Marshall just a real it in and then you see Glen Miner was one of the guys in there to make the tackle for Lambert that'll bring up a second and ten for Chattahoochee deep in their own territory at their own 19 out of the shotgun in the spread as Marshall looking and is pushed out of the pocket runs over to 2025 and out of bounds about the 26 yard.
Line coach Hunter.
They play escape the melody's a very very critical element in this offense for the quarterback you can see him.
I don't I don't think this was his it's a designed play.
He takes off on his own.
But it's this is going to be a great offense.
The quarterback's got to be able to escape in those kind of situations.
Really, really impressed with the with the kid, Travis Marshall's ability to escape and his speed.
And again, Chattahoochee with the no huddle out of the spread Marshall out of the shotgun looks over on the left.
Side, finds in the slot and the pass is complete.
To dog the short.
Dirk is over the 35 I feel got the 37 yard line and that is close to a first down.
And Gil, sometimes it.
Takes a scramble by the quarterback right there to set up a play like this.
They're able to get their passing game going a little bit, spreading it around.
Sean Dirk making his first catch of the game and picking up a big first down.
And now the Cougars are starting to get a little bit of wind beneath behind their back a little bit.
And it's a big hit first and ten for Chattahoochee at their own 36 by virtue of the Dirk first down but dip straight ahead to number 34 and that is Aaron Grant, five foot ten, £165 junior and coach Hunter and Trey McDaniel talked about this from the outset, that it was the game plan of Coach Crowder to speed this game up, to make it a track meet.
And this is starting to come to the fore early on, despite the fact that they're trailing by three over against Langford here tonight.
Marshall rolling in under pressure and his South.
Just doesn't look doesn't look comfortable in the off right now.
Like you talked about in coaching you said exactly so goes.
So goes Marshall.
Sprint to the left and he's cut the field off it can only throw it when he goes to the left like this is is cut the field after a third of the throwing line and has no time to get rid of.
It.
Yeah Jacob Kennard did a great job coming up field and force and Marshall inside and that's what allowed himself to come in a big sector for the Longhorns Matt Ham also one of those there to.
Clean it up.
The mess Marshall had of the shotgun in the pocket over the middle to his big play to the road.
Johnson Over the.
40 up to about the 45 yard line before he's corralled there by Zach Rice, also Braxton roaming over there as well Nice one handed catch in traffic here.
This is called the tunnel screen where they bring the guy back behind the line of scrimmage and get the lamb and down the field block greens later, the coaches behind the line.
Fourth and 14, both fourth and three, I should say, with fourth and 14 at the time.
But they love the pick up by.
By Johnson makes it fourth and three for the Chattahoochee.
He's about 44 now just about to say watch out for the two but does a lot more than that pokes fun at all the way back from the first start in their own territory.
There you go.
Because early on, their first two possessions, Dre, they had a short field, so they able a lot of field to work with it.
You get a shot get a shot of the coach of of Chattahoochee, Coach Brown.
He's done absolutely great job, Coach Crowder in his eighth season, 43 and 34, former defensive coordinator down in Camden County under Jeff Herron.
And they're ready.
You can see on the screen, but what they've accomplished here at the hotel and done a great job.
Six region titles Coach 9798 two.
Thousand and 103 last year 2000 between.
BROADUS and it looked like Meyers got confused and they both colliding flags on the play.
You talked about a little bit more.
I want to expand on that.
Chattahoochee resident Clint BOLLING, Charlie Weiners, some of those in the National Football League right now, Patrick Paschal, who's a great running back, who's with the New England Patriots.
And I think you'll see this penalty decline if it hasn't already been done so.
But we have a fast moving first quarter.
Troy McDaniel, coach Dave, we're 50 ticks left.
Unless they blew it dead, which they could have done.
Now they're going to turn this down.
They already had the loss going on.
Do penalty decline by the by the cougars that I don't make it that'll make it first any death for Lambert at own at their own 17.
Seconds second and 15.
Here is the final as he was.
Over the the 15.
Up to about the 17.
Yeah you look for the Landry Longhorns although they just got pinned down inside their own ten yard line to get back to what they do best and start running the football.
They would love nothing more than to eat the rest of these 22 ticks off the first quarter in a good chunk of the second quarter and put six points on the board right now.
This is a football game.
That they've been able to put their running game and they've had a lot of time with the football.
The clock continues to run that.
And bring a quick down to this first quarter and that.
Will be.
The end of the first quarter with the score.
Lambert three Chattahoochee nil.
Back with more Trey Hunter and Dave Hunter here at the Arena and Johns Creek, Chattahoochee and Lambert big ball game and region seven quarter We'll be right back on the break GPB.
Well much as possible I think.
One point.
But if you.
Think.
We got the rhythm going by.
Name.
Okay, you get okay you.
Have games.
They state Steve Steve.
Yes.
Yes.
You're back to us yet.
Oh okay.
Okay.
We'll need the same.
Kind of during the football.
You started the second quarter, the Longhorns and Lambert of three nil over the Chattahoochee Cougars.
Just a reminder, don't forget to check out GPB talk sports for all your high school sports information.
Jp morgan.
Sports blog ranked game changers video and on demand library.
From which all of the Sports Central.
Shows as well as the football.
And basketball games TPB is webcast that all GPB sports sports.
On the end around is David this.
He gets up to about the 20 yard line Oh correct me that was Brock Maxwell on the carry number 13 gets over the 20 up to about the 2526.
Yard line.
Be fourth fall short.
It'll be fourth and short as coach just said and.
Just barely missed the first down.
Coach, are you surprised at all that Lambert's been able to neutralize the speed of Chattahoochee thus far?
Well, Chattahoochee has done more than neutralize well, take that thing when it comes to the opposition.
And then they've made some uncharacteristic mistakes, I think, at least from season by, you know, having poor snaps, having some penalties and other things that are first game out.
As a lot of people think that most people, most teams prove the most between the first and second game, which could be part of the case here with Lambert, Chattahoochee not having played.
But that's just how close it is.
We're going to train with Daniel coach on him yeah right there.
And mark to the first now.
Coach what do you do here on fourth down in inches deep inside your own territory but with a good strong sizable offensive line that.
Like the Longhorns have Trey I think I think he signaled the first down.
They did, you know, the first the first the coach brought that up and he.
But it was heading out of town.
I wasn't avoiding you first.
You're being politically correct.
So I would have, definitely.
But yes.
All right.
Quarterback in for for Lambert right now as a coach his son Maxwell they give it around over the 15 that is David Brooks.
So they switched him up a little bit.
They got the backup quarterback, as you said, Coach Maxwell son and he hands off inside little inside play David Broadus and young man shows a lot of athleticism six for £210 is not easy to stop inside.
And they they worked on a lot of that at practice when we were up there this week.
John Nelson and Jackie Britton and yours truly second and ten for for the Longhorns that their own 32 they.
Continue to be in the wing to double wing to tight ends and to wing backs.
In motion is number one and the give is to look like Daniel Myers over the 40 oh to 45 and close to the 45, but about the 43 yard line, five foot five.
All of Daniel Myers getting lost in that.
This is going to be this is the midline play with a read the defensive tackle.
And if you want a quarterback in the tackle post as he takes away if he if he stays wide he hands it to the fullback obviously hand it to the fullback for big game wrote.
His back under center now and C.J.
Leggett among those who made the tackle for Chattahoochee first and ten for Lambert at their own 43 close to midfield.
The give on the misdirection is two looks like Brock Maxwell again Brock Maxwell over the over midfield and in the Chattahoochee Territory getting more getting a little chippy in there Guillen very close to another first down and on the stop Will Johnson was over there.
Chase Nelson.
They come with the counter.
Counter sweep in the signature play of the week the offense.
And right now right now that's brought Maxwell is the leading rusher and they're making a tentative drive right now.
Produce up to seven to give to Myers all five foot.
Five stood up and pushed back big time.
And then on the stop for Chattahoochee.
Jake kill free Kingery, I should say Jake Kingery and also Nick Johnson over there as well.
Yeah, Jake Kingery, the six for 221 pounder coach, said he'll be a defense defensive end at the next level.
And he just showed you why he lowered the boom there at the 48 yard line.
Lambert with the football at the Chattahoochee 48.
Trey, you like what Lambert's doing, right?
I love it.
This is my style of football grind.
It out, eat up the clock, keep the ball out of a speedy team's hands.
And right now they're controlling the football game three nothing with 941 to go here before half single back it's Myers the Q taken straight ahead by No.
Two spy Broadus coach, what do you think about this style of football?
This is kind of your style here, isn't it?
Well, it is a yes, it is.
They're controlling the tempo of the game, which is the most important thing for Lambert right now.
They are, you know.
They're just controlling what happens.
And the Chattahoochee is on their heels now.
Chattahoochee, he's got a third down and six here on defense and they've got a chance to make a difference now, but they've got to make a big play on defense.
Second and five for Lapper.
They beat Chattahoochee 40.
Two to give the fire, stood up at the 40 push back and the ball is stripped and taken out of the hands.
But the whistle up and blow dead.
Jay Snelson thought he had the football and he had stripped it away.
Yeah, Chase Nelson in there like a bulldog trying to get the ball away.
And it looked like from up here, although we are a few feet away, it looked like he was able to get the ball away.
But possession will be maintained here by the Lambert Longhorns.
They got a drive mounting, but right here is a crucial play.
Third down coach right at the 40 yard line.
They play both sides.
Looks like going to take a timeout and.
Think about this one.
What would you what would your strategy be?
Trying to get it right?
Well, right now, they've done a good job mixing up the ball, carrying with Brutus and Maxwell.
They've got Chattahoochee confused right now because they're swapping them out underneath center.
So I would look for something like that where either Broadus or Maxwell is under center and they do that counter play like coach just so eloquently described, and that's probably their best bet to pick up these yardage.
But keep in mind, they haven't gone to the air yet.
This may be the first time we see that coach.
I think I like the little quick bits that they ran earlier to Maxwell and the Georgia Tech play that we've seen made famous by Coach and the staff at Georgia Tech.
They had a big gain with it.
I've only run it one time.
This might be the place for it.
We'll see.
You know, the good thing is it's 33, so he's got plenty of options.
But buckle up for the new season of Georgia Traveler.
Come along with our traveling team as we hit the beach, join the festival celebrations, discover unique museums and shred upon Civil War battlefields.
Catch them at their new times.
Start time Sunday on prime time here on GPB.
Coach, I want you to expand a little bit more on what you talked about in terms of the playcalling aspect of what Coach Maxwell is doing right now.
Well, it's kind of got him on his patient.
You know, for the.
11 year old, this style of offense, five yards is a good game and you're not going to get to I don't think you're gonna get a quick pitch out of this formation great of a slot the kid is to the coach and cyclops can still play by play 5010 five Touchdown Touchdown Lambert Great call no flags.
Huge, huge, huge play.
And here he goes.
It's a.
Counter sweep on.
The counter.
Sweet and he is untouched until he hits the ten yard line.
So you got to give the front credit.
And he dragged Trey Hart with him right in the end zone to Maxwell, a tough runner, I got to say.
Pretty good football player to Gill.
Not just a baseball player.
Oh, and on for the extra point, it's Tyler Calvert.
The kick is up.
It looks good and it is good.
So Lampard expands their lead here at Chattahoochee, the defending.
State forest.
Champs in trouble, the great run by the coaches son rocks Maxwell taking Trey hard with him for the touchdown Lambert up 10/2 quarter We'll be back on GPB.
Well done.
Yes, yes.
And 6 minutes left in the second we.
Yes, I have it right here.
Okay.
What is.
Oh.
Okay.
Oh, I can do all right.
Now for now for scorers around the state we've got loudness leading McEachern right now 3 to 0.
Also here at home we've got Lambert leading 3 to 0 and then we've got Cedar Grove down right now to Stephenson 13 to 6.
And then we've got Ed Watt down right now to Kelly 7 to 19.
Sprayberry is down as well to Lassiter 3 to 14.
And we're going to wrap it up now and toss it back to you.
All right, Jacki, thank you.
And Lambert courtesy the touchdown by Brock Maxwell, a 40 yard run to put the Longhorns up ten nothing.
And coach, are you surprised and shocked?
Not just a little bit surprised, but I mean, I know you've got a good football team.
Your coach is very, very tough nosed guy.
They've got lots of experience under his belt.
This is a hidden gem kicking game at twice it kicked off in the end zone, so Chattahoochee can't use their speed in return game.
Gill, I tell you who is shocked they got a yellow out here going, Yeah, at the arena here at the hooch.
These, these this crowd is stunned.
I don't think they expected this.
They're 15 and oh team from last year.
I didn't get the chance to watch a lot of their games, but I doubt they trail ten to nothing and very many of those football games last year, but with 804 to go before they find themselves down ten to nothing against Region four, Brandon Everett picked away from from Trey Hart and its coach talked about went into the end zone so Chattahoochee will take over first and ten at their own 20 trailing in this football game the defending for a state champs on their own the roads in the region seven donnybrook.
That is Marshall the flock to the big play guys will get close to.
The 30 yard line that's a little bit easier to get coach.
Oh a little player screen it's a little say on the replay.
They throw a little flare screen to the outside.
You see he's got some dos but excellent tackle.
Very, very nice tackle by the defender from Lambert number 20.
One Zack Price spread for Chattahoochee They give this to Chase Nelson close to the 30 yard line, a gain of about one Trey McDaniel.
And now it brings up a third down and one gill.
They had good down and distance after getting the ball to Will Johnson.
Now it's third down and one in there.
I actually gave him the first down on that.
So they're moving the chains here and they did exactly what they should have done after giving up the touchdown, put the ball in their playmakers, hands with Will Johnson.
I will look for more of that here in this.
Chattahoochee trying to speed things up trailing ten nothing here at the arena in the season opener this week is defending for a chance are on the.
Ropes to their rival just eight miles down the road.
A 20 mile trip to Lambert long on first and ten.
At their own 30 Marshall out of the shotgun, looking on the left side, dropping down about it for the big brother Johnson for over 40 points to the 42.
So even though it's a nice completion for 12 yard gain, they're timing their timing saying the replay the timing seems a little bit off if you need to get the ball there just a smidgen quicker so he can a play.
But he put quite a bit of air under this ball coach and like you said, he could have broke that off or even more.
But the silver lining is it is a first down.
It moves the chains first attended the 41.
Chattahoochee really needs to get the momentum back in this game.
655 until halftime and a coach of course a John Nelson one of great stories at halftime, Michael Palmer, what he's doing for Locust Grove and Fitzgerald, a great story there.
Jackie Britton and Mark Harmon.
And Company Marshall.
Plenty of time in the pocket, looking long to watch out for the crowd pleasing crowd at the 30 yard line.
Paul Lambert, big play.
Oh, boy, boy, did you see that guy snatch that ball out of the air?
My goodness, when you're.
Trailing by ten, you want it like that.
That's why he's recruited by six foot six SCC schools.
Hence his up on his hands nicely.
Boy, just like Trey used to do it.
Yeah, we got to get the ball rolling like that.
I haven't seen that videotape either.
I'm not sure it exists, Coach.
Just telling stories about me.
I saw he played on defense.
First and ten for.
The defending for his state champs a trail the Lambert ten nothing first and ten at the Lambert 29 Matt Smith's bad snap Marshall able to get on it but down at the 40 yard line that's about 11 yard loss.
Coach second 21 is just a killer.
Take a look at the replay.
You and Trey McDaniel can both comment on it.
Coach think is about the fourth time tonight this has happened and they just that's a drive killer.
It's always to his left.
So this is something the coaches will be able to see in the film.
The snaps are always, always.
One errant.
To the left.
And Terry Crowder says that senior Calvin Gillison, they call him smiling Bob 60 to 80 Center said he's one of the best centers he's ever seen and expects him to play at the next level.
He's got to get the snap ironed out though second and the long 20 at the Lambert 40 Chattahoochee with the ball Marshall over the.
Middle in the slot the pass is complete and it looked like.
Over there the ball is trying to be stripped away, but not to no avail.
That was Luke Wagner watching the 510 £175 senior, does a good job rolling it in and they picked up some of that yardage back after that botched snap.
But it's still third and long and that'll be third and 24 Chattahoochee at the Lambeth 33.
And got tripped up to the.
Top of the field trying to isolate Marshall in into other tries to get over the 35 down to about the 33.
And pretty much no game train.
Again, it looked like senior Jacob Kendrick coming up from his defensive end position.
Once again, he's done that a couple of times, but he was untouched there and he was all inside Travis Marshall space and he had nowhere to go at first.
Looked like he was setting up a screen because so many defenders came free.
Coach.
Yeah, they just had him put protection scheme there.
I'm afraid what's happened is every time they got something going, the yard.
Line.
Lambert has made a big play on defense, or Chattahoochee really shot themselves in the foot with the snap of the football.
And that seems to be the problem.
But again, first game in the box for Chattahoochee.
You you can expect mistakes and we've seen a few here, but I wouldn't want to be in the locker room at halftime here to hear Coach Crowder lay into these boys.
They got a lot of things to work out here.
All right, Marshall, out of the shotgun tries to draw.
Looks like the offsides it looks like they might try to look for that coach.
But again and Coach Crowder said that they would do a lot of that tonight.
They want it.
They wanted this penalty.
They wanted the penalty because you you got a chance, a really good chance to kick in the end zone from 30 for about 39.
You don't.
Look great.
What they're trying to do here, Gil, is his pin, the Lambert Longhorn offense inside the 20, maybe even inside the ten or five yard line, and hope that they don't have enough time to drive the length of the field to put more points on the board.
They're going to lick their wounds and try to get into the locker room.
I believe.
And again, Coach and Trey talked about the formation, which would indicate a pooch, but with a fourth in 19 for Chattahoochee at the Lambert 39.
Looks like we got a timeout.
You're not sure?
You call this 1/2, try to come out.
Defense call timeout.
That's Longhorns.
They want to talk about this that formation had them possible possible but said that they had not seen on film didn't look like the pooch fun formation that we saw earlier.
And they obviously don't want to get caught off guard in case Marshall wants to air this one out again.
Coming up at halftime, Mark Harmon, Jackie Britton, John Nelson standing by with scores and and a great feature on on the exploits of one Michael Palmer tight end of the Atlanta Falcons and of course they're doing great things really helping the football programs at Locust Grove.
And also Fitzgerald did an outstanding thing and not a bad football player.
He showed very well in the pre season for the Falcons as well.
That story coming up.
Heartwarming story coming up at halftime.
Guilty three.
Trey McDaniel and coach Dave Hunter.
And next week, we will be a Peachtree Ridge win.
London takes on Peachtree Ravens.
That should be a great ballgame.
And our coverage starts a little bit before 8:00 here on GPB.
Hope you and yours enjoying some great high school football in the great state of Georgia on this Labor Day weekend.
Chattahoochee, too.
But that is Marshall.
And the ball is almost tap back.
But Lambert will take over at their own point, leading in this football game attempt to nothing.

You can appreciate that, Dave Hunter.
You can appreciate that because you guys are part of the great history and lore of Georgia high school football.
Eight.
Nothing better, nothing better, nothing on Earth.
Better than that.
I know the guys in Texas and California and the Ohios of the world, the state like to think they got the best high school in the state.
I'm a little biased.
I think it's Georgia.
It's okay to be biased.
Georgia, Georgia's so good from from top to bottom.
There's a there's a lot of other states with a 20 teams at the top classifications great in Georgia single-A all the way to five he's got great football.
Speaking of the classification, you guys had some big moves this week.
We should be an executive committee of the Georgia High School Association.
We had we had some some final decisions about a reclassification going to six classes.
They got 400 over four and 30 schools now.
And we need to add to.
Class first and ten for Lambert at their own 20 to give us to Myers up over the 20 across the 25 up to the 30 about the 32 that kid five foot five and and he carries something with it and short pit.
Ball three iron baker.
Nice spin move gets in traffic.
And.
Really navigates his way through and credit to that little bowling ball.
There you.
Go.
I'm glad you mentioned that, Gill.
Five foot five 188.
I thought that might have been a typo, but he is as a as wide and thick as he is tall.
He's a first year starter and he's shown out good here tonight, big first down there.
And they featured him a lot in practice and a lot of credit goes to that offensive line.
And I want to touch on that with Coach Hunter in a minute about the the work that they do.
That's the coach's son, Brock Maxwell, who scored the Longhorns lone touchdown.
And we have a penalty flag.
And Maxwell was able to get over the 40 up to the 45 coach, I want you to to kind of expand on the role that Coach Maxwell has in the strength and conditioning and why that offensive line is so good at Lambert and what he's been able to do in just a short period of time.
Coach Maxwell is a nationally renowned the strength and conditioning coach, probably one of the top ten in the country so far.
Yeah, I was fortunate enough to play one.
I was still coaching at Brookwood.
We played him in the playoffs, but his teams are always very, very physical and he gets it, gets him in that weight room and I really develop.
And he's done a tremendous job.
Yes.
You just can't play anymore at the level that we play now in this state without having the strength and conditioning programs.
He has done a tremendous job in a very short period of time that LAMB.
The penalties will be against.
Lambert And that will push him back.
Trey McDaniel That'll make it a first in 20 had their at their own 20.
So they're right back where they started but they got twice as far to go.
326 before halftime here at Johns Creek pre Labor Day, we did.
A high school football on GPB.
Glad to have you with us misdirection and they give.
Looks like to Maxwell he is over the 25 up to about the 27 yard line.
He gets a little counter sims are play that's kind of another you can say it starts to the right looks like that sweep again and then they hand it back to the wing back up underneath and they trap the defensive tackle.
You can see that they hand that pizzicato sandwich to cab, used to run it back in the tray.
You probably know that back.
Yeah it did.
You get really hurt did you get.
We got destroyed too much speed guilt.
Oh really too much speed.
Do I look like I could catch Quincy Carter?
I couldn't catch him today.
He was taking a nap.
I couldn't catch him, big fella.
You look like you could catch some anybody right now.
You look like you could strap it on the night 249 closing in on halftime.
LAMBERT That's BROADUS over the 30 up to about the 3536 yard line.
The game.
And all the stop for Chattahoochee.
He said, who just got a time out?
They desperately want the ball back.
They've got to stop him right here on Third Coach.
They did a great job to take a terrible situation first down and 20 from the 20 and turn it into third and manageable.
Is this the first time tonight that we might see them put it in the air?
Certainly could be.
But but I think if I know Coach Mack well, he wants to manage the clock as well.
So, again, you might say that you might see that pass outside.
Let's check out Chattahoochee real quick, coach.
You see Creek, they got Creek to you next week.
Excuse me for South Central next week.
Hey great being Northwest Whitfield.
Of get to get a home game back to Northwest which they got two straight on the road now for five separate link creek view right now they need to get a stop here and they get probably get another time out.
This is this is no slight hill on region seven.
But looking at that schedule, I look for Lambert to be able to make some hay this year and I look for him to be right back in the playoffs at this point in my opinion, it's just a matter of seeding.
But of course, eight and three last year you got to play the game.
And you do have to play the games and what a job Sid Maxwell has done.
Coach Hunter did a great job in Chronicle, what he was able to do at Sequoyah High School and of course has come over to the Lambert, which is really been a force to reckon with.
Well, it's astonishing.
And Coach said it said it best when we were preparing for the game.
Absolutely astonishing that they go eight and three and make the playoffs in their second year of existence.
That's just absolutely unheard of.
The first first year of the competition.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They played a four game schedule against other new schools the year before that, but last year was officially their first year, eight and three.
They lose in the first round to Hiram, 35 to 10.
That's a phenomenal year.
They got something cooking over here at Lambeau Field.
Well, Coach Maxwell said the seniors did a great job in setting the standard for what they're trying to get done with the Longhorn program.
And of course, stealing Chattahoochee tonight would be a huge statement.
Win for this program, even though it's weaknesses for them.
You talk about the win over Northwest, which they opened week one.
So they're defending 14 state champs.
They clinch the title.
And here comes the sweet.
And the sweet and the kids.
And that was on the touchdown run before that they scored.
And that was the coach's son, Rox Maxwell, over the 45, up to about the 46.
Take a look at this coach.
Right.
Here comes the sweep again, the one he scored on.
Exactly.
They get them on balance because they walk the tight end from one side to the other and they get a mismatch physically.
Coach, are you surprised how much they're featuring Brock Maxwell on the offense tonight?
He is really the go to guy so far.
Well, he certainly is, but he is the tailback.
He was their leading rusher.
And what was once first and 20 Gill is a first down and ten at the 45 yard line.
More importantly, when they snap this ball, they're going to keep that clock.
And a question to both of you guys.
Will Chattahoochee be able to see this football.
Before.
You see the football before halftime?
We've got senior we have, of course, the left tackle.
He's got a little bit of a injury situation and he's bleeding.
So that's what the slight delay was from single back behind throw to settle on the ground.
The Panthers coach.
Talked about that Brock Maxwell over the 45 of up to the 48 yard line.
And there you go.
Trey McDaniel you and coach have called it the featuring of Rox Maxwell.
Yeah, he took a hit there by Trey Hart, though he lowered the boom there right around the 47 yard line.
It's Maxwell they call Ice.
No, I think it was a legit hit.
I think they're getting a little ticky tack on this up, personal foul stuff.
I think that was a great hit.
He led with the shoulder pads and knocked him on his rear end.
You'll think about it next time he goes around that right in second and eight for the Longhorns at their own 47 they lead in the football game ten nothing single back behind Broadus is more Miers over midfield into Chattahoochee territory about the Chattahoochee 46 a coach do you think about here now that you've got the ball into Chattahoochee territory with 204 it's not so much about killing the clock.
Now you could actually get some more points before he could, but you know.
They're just they're really patient.
Often they are really pace.
But they did hurry up to the line of scrimmage, hurry up and.
Know how to change the play.
And a change play at the line of scrimmage is coach talked about that's Reed Gill in the slot single back Myers behind Broadus the game straight ahead is to Myers he stood up and pushed back and then takes it some more.
I think Broadus kept that.
Was Broadus on the carry correction.
That was on that midline in the tackle closed down.
So he kept the ball.
The fake went to Myers.
And got the first down.
Right.
And Broadus was able to keep it.
And you see him right there sliding inside of left tackle and left guard and as coach said, first and ten and the drive continues.
I don't know if Chattahoochee sees his football skill.
I'd love to see him go primary to that pseudo no huddle, keeping the defense, having to keep the defense on their toes.
But they did huddle up this time defense and a wide open that was the oh the defense open out in the open for Chatham a four Lambert and the pass is incomplete great call Zach Price.
A fake they inside they fake the inside play and they wheels of the wing back at the sideline is split and runs a slant route of wingback ran up the sideline and they got behind them and just move it away.
BARNES But that was that was 16 that was 16 to nothing.
GILT That would have been 16 to nothing.
He had his man and he had the ball.
Just a little mental lapse there down inside the 20 yard line for Zach Price, second and ten at the 40 of Chattahoochee.
The Lambert Longhorns leading ten nothing lost opportunity and make it 16 That's Broadus looking over the intended receiver over there was number 47 Chris Lay and dangerous pass and it was incomplete incomplete dangerous pass into traffic Gill right there you overthrew your intended receiver and there were three yellow jerseys in the area.
You did not want to turn that over because they could have taken that one to the house and that would have changed everything.
Third and ten for Lambert had to Chattahoochee 40, the Longhorns becoming the defending four state champions Tennessee here at the arena and John Sprigg season opener for Chattahoochee.
Singles black Meyer's behind Broadus in the slot is still rolling out this Broadus He'll keep it over the 35.
Down to about the 34 and the clock still ticking under a minute to go.
Trey McDaniel, Gillick can see why you and see Charlotte like Stephen Rhodes so much.
He's a tough kid and it does show that he puts a little touch on his ball, too.
When he passes it, he has to pick out the feature that very often is, but he's tough and you can tell the coaches trust him.
They're allowing him to keep the ball.
Well, you can see Charlotte offered him.
But I'll tell you what, they're going to be some more often after they see that tape and that's a problem coach on and you talked about that the fact that we haven't seen a lot of tape of 15 but we're going to see a lot of tape of him tonight.
That's right.
When you're in new school, you just don't you don't see enough of the recruiters as they get better.
And this would be a signature win.
You would start seeing more traffic from the.
Colleges at that school.
20 seconds to go, BROADUS over the middle.
The intended receiver was lay at the 25.
It falls incomplete.
So what do you do, Trey McDaniel?
What do you do, coach?
Well, right now they turned it over on down.
So they're giving the ball back.
Chattahoochee But with the field position here, they really you know, if you're thinking conservatively, you take a knee here.
The coach just motion to me like look like you wanted to.
Air it out with all that ball deep, that number four.
You see the concerned face of coach Terry Crowder the.
You got to try to get wide.
I mean the cougars are down ten nil here and a stunned crowd here at the arena at Johns Creek feasibly coach with 14.1 seconds you could actually air it out a couple of times at the first one's incomplete.
Could you make it an interference penalty as well, Tom?
Enough, you say for two plays.
Yes.
Okay.
At least no huddle and you see the spread and that means everybody going to the end zone.
Nick Marshall, we'll take it straight ahead.
And he's over the 40 up to the 45 and it looks like they automatically just run it out tight title.
All right.
And now it's coming to an end here at Johns Creek in the arena where the Lambert Longhorns.
Lead, the defending for a state champs, the Chattahoochee.
Cougars.
Ten nothing Gill Tyree, Trey McDaniel and Hunter here.
And your impressions right now, quickly, of this first half hair cut?
Well, I think that obviously Lambert controlled the tempo of the game and and on the other side of the ball, Chattahoochee cannot get any rhythm going on offense because most of the time, because they've shot themselves in the foot.
Elaborate has played reasonably well on defense.
But, you know, they just they just control the tempo of the game.
Downstairs to John Nelson and coach sit Maxwell of Lambert John.
All right here with the coach really quickly you wanted to turn this into a tractor pull, not a track meet.
You got your wish.
Well, you know, the ball's bounced in our way.
Young Men are playing hard for 6 seconds.
And when you do that, good things happen.
Obviously, there were some chances that you couldn't convert.
And I know you're probably going to talk about that at halftime.
Well, you know, like I said, we you're not going to make all the plays.
You just got to get ready for.
The next one.
Any other adjustments you can think of right now?
We just, you know, again.
Just keep flying around and don't focus too much on where we're going.
Just play football.
All right.
Thanks for your time, coach.
Coach Max, he's got a ten point lead as we send it upstairs to Mark with the best seat in the house.
John, thanks so much.
We've got a great halftime you coming up.
But first, we're going to introduce you to a new series here on JGB.
It's called Today in Georgia History.
It's a fabulous way to learn about this great state.
We'll be have more on the JB halftime.
Show when we come back after this time.
I want more.
It's always good to be back.
It will take you back to the wrong place.
Wrong.
You look great.
You can walk me through it better.
There are things you can't.
Now, entering.
The field from Georgia is remember high school?
He was there.
He had a great track record in mastering the hard to read three train game tonight he we will be performing.
In program no.
English performing here for three movement judgment rap.
He with.
School stampede you may think.
He'll be.
In halftime one.
Welcome back to the arena at Chattahoochee High School the cougars trail at halftime to Lambert ten to nothing your score right now we'll hear from the principals, from special gas and from the marching bands.
And we're going to check out the Lambert Longhorns marching band, the Lambert Stampede.
Let's listen in.
The Lambert Stampede sounding good.
Now, we told you in our pre-game show that tonight's game is an interactive experience.
You can participate via the World Wide Web and manning.
Our social media tonight is Jacki Britton.
Jacki.
Thanks.
Margaret are talking to several different people online, including Coach Davis, his wife for Chattahoochee.
And we also have Tim Marshall chatting with us from California.
And he says, Go cougars.
Now let's jump right into our poll that we've been talking about all night, all night with the new classification extension from 5 to 6 eight.
We do have some results for that for you.
We have 71% of you say, yes, that is fair for the amount of schools in Georgia.
And we also have an interesting comment from Turks and Caicos.
They say that six say is necessary or they should up the size for five eight schools with the amount of kids at some major schools like Brookwood and Mill Creek, smaller schools at the bottom of the spectrum, don't stand a chance.
We thought that was very interesting.
We encourage you to keep the conversation going with us at Jp morgan Sports and that will wrap it up for social.
Mark, back to you.
Jacqui, thanks so much.
Now, do you think you know everything there is to know about Lambert High School?
Well, there's a lot to know.
And Q Howard does her best with her.
Hey, did you know segment?
Did you know that Lambert is the newest high school in Forsyth County?
The school opened its doors for the 2009 2010 school year and has already received the Bronze Award from the state for high achievements on the CRTC and graduation sets.
And did you know that the school was named for Mr. Clarence Lambert, an education advocate who served the Forsyth County School System for over 20 years.
With us now, the principal of Lambert High School, Gary Davidson.
Gary, so far, so good out there on the football field.
They're doing well.
They're doing well.
A lot of young players.
But we're we're very proud them.
Talk a little about what's going on at Lambert High School.
But we're only three years old, Mark.
And we we've got to we're trying to establish a tradition that Lambert and Coach Maxwell Andrew, for our athletic director and all of our coaches have done just an outstanding job with 14 region championships in two years.
Eight last year, two state semifinalist and one state champion.
So we've got.
A tremendous amount happening athletically, but also academically in the classroom.
I'm very proud of our staff, our teachers, and most importantly, our students.
All right.
It's time to play.
Are you smarter than your students, though?
Pick out a question there.
I'm worried about that.
I'm the Georgia graduation test here.
I don't know any of these.
Okay.
We'll see here what this one is.
This is in science and isotope of carbon has 12 neutrons.
What is the isotopes?
Atomic number?
Is it A, six, B, ten, C, 12 or 18?
Well, my science department would.
Kill me if I got this wrong, so I'll have to say six.
Six is right.
A is right.
I'm not sure I know what an isotope is, but you are smarter than your students, so congratulations.
Thank you, Mark.
All right.
We're going to check in now with another segment, Jackie Britton, that we call Rent Check Jackie.
Thanks, Mark.
This is Rent Check where we check in on the parents to see how much they know about their student athlete.
With us right now is, quarterback David Broaddus, his mother, Ken, thanks for joining us.
Start by telling us if your son the clock, this class that your son would never miss because it's his favorite class.
What is it?
Weightlifting.
I'm sorry.
It's actually math, he said.
All right.
Let's move right along to it.
Who do you think he looks up to as his favorite athlete?
Absolutely.
That's it.
All right.
And his favorite car, what we see him driving around in downtown is Chevy Camaro.
Chevy Camaro.
All right.
And his favorite teacher, this might be this might hit a little closer to home for you than you think.
Yes.
That's close.
Coach Maxwell.
Coach Maxwell.
And last but certainly not least, what is David's most likely to major in?
Yes, business.
Business is correct.
All right, Mark, back to you.
Jacqui, thanks so much.
Let's take another listen in to the band.
I think it's the Lambert Stampede still out there on the field.
Okay.
Now I got to cover your little red and I.
We'll pick up the next band, the Chattahoochee Marching Band, coming up after this time out.
We'll take a break and be back with more of JB's halftime show.
Stay with us.
Welcome back to the GPB halftime show here at Chattahoochee High School at the Arena, the Cougars trail, amber ten to zip right now at the half.
We're going to check in with the Cougars marching band.
They're a terrific band.
They played in the London New Year's Day parade back in 2007.
And they are scheduled to play in the New York St Patrick's Day parade in 2012.
Listen.
Let's listen in to the Cougar marching band.
If you like JB's presentation of high school football, you can show your appreciation by texting GPB a $10 donation.
All have to do is text the letters GPB to the number 85944 and be sure to reply.
Yes, message and data rates may apply.
How about that?
Well, it's a great show we've got going for the Cougar Marching Band, really marching out there.
And now we check in with some more information on Chattahoochee High School with another installment from Joshua Howard in her.
Hey Did You Know segment.
Hey, did you know that Chattahoochee High School is ranked number 136 in Newsweek's top 500 high schools for the U.S.?
The is number one in Fulton County and number one in the state.
For A.P.
scores, the Cougars conquer from the classroom to the top.
The football team has its regional championship six times.
And did you know that they are the 2010 four age state champs and that they've maintained a 15 and oh, perfect for that season?
With me now is the principal of Chattahoochee High School, Tim Duncan.
And Tim, you've had quite the year your soccer team wins the state championship, your boys football teams wins the state championship.
And a lot of things going on.
Is absolutely an.
Outstanding year.
Of course, we're used to doing pretty well in a lot of things, but it was a is our first football and that was special.
Academically talk some of the things going on here in Cougar Land.
Absolutely.
What you've heard about our national ranking, we're really proud of that.
We offer 23 app offerings.
Our students are usually Irish taking about six AP classes during their time here, but it's just been really good.
Even the debate teams won the state championship six out of the last seven.
Years, not even the debate team.
You know, I was on the debate team.
Well, it's time to play.
Are you smarter than your students?
So pick out a question here that comes from the Georgia graduation test.
This could be tough.
Let's see.
This is U.S. history.
Which event led to a fierce congressional debate over U.S. expansionism near the end of the 1800s was at a the massacre at Wounded Knee b the restriction of Asian immigration.
See the purchase of the Alaskan territory or D the end of the Spanish-American War?
Well, I like history.
I'm going to have to go with d. D is correct.
The end of the Spanish-American War.
So you are smarter than your students.
I don't know about that, but I appreciate it.
Well, thanks for coming on.
A lot of good things go on here at Chattahoochee High School.
Thank you.
All right.
Now let's check in with Chrissy Warrillow.
She's got the weather for us for the second half and for your drive home.
Chrissy.
Thanks, Mark.
I'm really enjoying this halftime show and, you know, childhood.
You did a great job and I got to give it up to Lambert.
They were playing Adagio Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings or in this case, Adagio for Marching Band.
But Let's take a look at your weather.
In fact, we're seeing that right now.
We have beautiful conditions.
Taking a look right there at the radar.
We have a couple of showers, but they're fizzling out as the day time goes away.
But if we take a look down in Mobile, we actually see that Tropical Storm Lee is going to be a weather maker within the next couple of days.
She's right there in the lower corner.
There she is.
So what's going to happen is within the next couple of days, she will be a rainmaker.
But right now, we don't have to worry about her halftime show, 89 degrees, partly cloudy skies by the fourth quarter, partly cloudy, 86.
And after the game, when you're going to celebrate 80 degrees.
But throughout the weekend, we are going to find out that we're going to see the clouds start moving in.
So the clouds are going to move in Saturday night.
And in fact, we'll see the rain to move in Saturday night for southwest Georgia like Albany.
And then we'll see Sunday.
The rest of the state will be inundated with rain and by Monday we will have heavy rain.
In fact, we can expect 1 to 3 inches on Monday and 1 to 5 inches will fall throughout the state through Wednesday.
So we have heavy rain coming.
We have heavy rain coming through to us.
But for right now, we don't have to worry about Mark.
Chrissy, thanks so much.
We welcome back John Nelson now who has the story of an Atlanta Falcon and the Locust Grove High football team, John Locust Grove High and Fitzgerald High as well.
Mark, the way that things have gone, if you followed high school football here in the state of Georgia this particular season, you know about the two losses for heat exhaustion.
One at Fitzgerald, Jay Searcy, one at Locust Grove and Forest Jones, Michael Palmer, who knows what life is like on these Friday nights, decided he wanted to do something to just show his support.
For both school.
We came out here just a normal day going through some walk through type stuff and did a little weight lifting and then afterwards we did some conditioning for us.
Never showed any signs of complaining.
They never said anything.
And obviously he was sick.
And, you know, just what type of character he had any.
Football practice before August 1st is voluntary.
In Locust Grove scores, Jones was known as a hard worker who always wanted to get better.
On July 25th, Jones was felled by heat exhaustion after a practice and died little over a week later.
Force will always be in his team's mind and heart.
He's our quiet captain.
He has it on the field.
Off the field.
He wasn't the best athlete, but he always managed to get the job done.
And he's just a great guy.
In my neighborhood, we always hung out.
He's just he's a nice guy and he just made you always make you laugh.
I always had jokes coming on.
Just he's a good guy, good kid.
It definitely opened my eyes to different things, helped me, you know, to whatever I'm doing and do it to my full ability because life is too short, you know?
So definitely that.
Michael Palmer was a part of Football Friday's at Parkview and now he's in Atlanta, Falcon.
When he heard the story of Forrest and Fitzgerald Hines, D.J.
Searcy lost to his teammates the same way last month.
He knew he had to do something.
You know, when I initially read it, you know, I just I thought about my own life.
And when I lost one of my friends at Clemson and, you know, it kind of touched me and reminded me of, you know, what what I felt during that time and how hard it was for me and my friends.
And, you know, you really just your heart goes out to those guys.
So Palmer wanted to tell these teams in very special messages that he was with them, too.
I just want to let you guys know that, you know, my heart goes out to y'all and I'm praying for y'all.
And and I hope they all continue to play hard and play for forest and and continue to play for spirit and and for how much he loved the game that you guys would just continue to play through him.
And for him.
And Locust Grove was his guest at Thursday's game against the Ravens as a show of strength, support and camaraderie.
Made me feel great to know that, like he's feeling our pain.
Because I know if if one of his teammates died is this terrible and I know he's looking out for us like he's he's stand up for small towns in Georgia where he came from.
John, really.
It's great great to see a little bit of giving back there.
No doubt in the Jones family was there supporting the team last night at Locust Grove.
Once again, it's a great scene and great to be very humbling experience.
All right.
Let's now go to the GPB High School Football Scoreboard.
We've got a lot of scores to show you tonight.
We start off with our Web game tonight, which is a Grady High School blessed Trinity taking on Grady there.
And you see that Grady won that game 14 to 9 Colquitt County over Thomas County Center 24 zip that game at halftime Tucker leads Marist at the half 1511 Brookwood leads Collinsville by three touchdowns It is Lambert leading Chattahoochee here at the half time and Buford leads Carver Columbus by a couple of TDs at halftime Creekside over Barnegat 7 to 6 It is Laster leading Sprayberry 14 to 3 at the half.
It is also Cedar Grove trailing Stephenson at halftime McEachern all tied up at three three.
Etowah is trailing Cal 19 to 7 at the half and Peachtree Ridge winning big over Roswell 24 to zip.
So that brings us now to our Aetna Wellness Champion campaign.
We've got Camille Carmon and we've also got Jason Hicks here with us.
Jason, we'll start off with you.
Let's talk a little bit about the shape back and what that's about.
The Shape Act is a new law in the state of Georgia, where every student in grades one through 12 will be required to have an annual fitness assessment.
And that assessment can consist of their body mass index, a cardiovascular endurance test, a muscular endurance test and a flexibility test.
Then we as educators load that into a fitness gram software, and that spits out an individualized report for each student.
And that report is important for reasons one, it gives them their current level of fitness, and two, they take that home and it starts that dialog, that important dialog with their parents regarding their level of health.
Okay, Carmen, what are you guys doing to fight obesity.
In this right now?
But we formed a committee at Chattahoochee High School, and a few things that we've discussed implementing this year is bringing experts in the field to our school to educate our students, to teach them about healthy eating and about making the right choices.
I think also we're looking at applying for a garden grant to add to the existing garden that we have on our campus.
Also Fulton County schools as an excellent job.
The nutrition program does an excellent job with our cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch and the choices that are offered to our students, we're seeing less and less fried foods being offered.
We always, every day have three vegetables and two fruits available to our students.
We have a Georgia grown program that we're offering every month.
And through that program, we're offering a Georgia grown vegetable or fruit.
Well, you're making me hungry just sitting here talking.
Well, we thank.
You guys for coming on with us.
We're going to send it back over to Jackie Britton, who has a red check segment for us.
All right.
For this segment of rent check, we have Chattahoochee mom, Lisa Kingery, mother of Jay Kingery, start by telling us what is his favorite subject.
Thank you very much.
That's an easy one.
History.
All.
And if we caught him reading a book, what would his favorite book be?
That's kind of rare.
So I would say the last book he read was a required book in school, and I would say it was Catcher in the Rye.
It was Catcher in the Rye.
All right.
His favorite athlete.
That's easy.
He's a linebacker.
Wes Welker.
You're right.
All right.
That wraps it up for this segment of written check Mark, back to you.
All right, Jacqui, thank you very much.
We're going to the play by play guys.
Gil, Dave and Trey take it away.
All right, Mark, thank you.
And of course, our halftime score right now, ten nothing.
And gentlemen, clearly I asked you guys at the end of the first half your impressions of the first half.
You've had a chance to digest some things.
Trey, what do you think?
Gil I don't think we've seen the best out of this Chattahoochee offense yet.
It is the first game they've only played two quarters of football so far as opposed to Lambert.
They're getting ready to go into their seventh quarter of football.
So far this season, it doesn't sound like much, but a lot can get worked out.
So I think the best is yet to come here for Chattahoochee.
This game is not over.
All right.
Kickoff still ahead here on GPB.
Lambert up ten.
Nothing over the defending foray state champs.
We got.
An upset Bruins.
Three after the kick all right started the second half and of course Lambert had won the toss early on and deferred until the second half.
So we're going to start the third quarter right now.
Kicking off for kicking off for Chattahoochee.
Will be the.
Place kicker Kevin Haiti.
And he will be kicking off to Jake Fast Squares.
And I also see Brock Maxwell back there at their own five to receive for Lambert.
The.
Longhorns lead to nothing start of the.
Second half taken by Maxwell had 2025 3030.
One yard line and brought down there and it'll be first and ten for the Lambert Longhorns leading to nothing.
First half highlights of this football game coach Dave Hunter.
Bad snap on the punt set up the great field position on the second possession for the Lambert Longhorns, which leads to the field goal.
By Tyler Caldwell.
Right.
And then this is the touchdown.
Take us through again, coach.
They they they run the swing the counter sweep again the weight the best player out of the winning team and it just do a great job of blocking the play.
And almost a touchdown right there the mystique and price not having an opportunity Trey McDaniel to reel that in that would have put him up 6 to 8 possibly 17, nothing but elite ten nothing first and ten here at their own 31.
That is Broadus, who gets over to 35 across the 35 up to about the 38 yard line stat.
McDaniel Run it down.
What jumps out at you little little even there on first downs.
But look at the passing yardage and the rushing yardage.
Huge disparity there.
Lambert leading the rushing game, no passing yardage, but still a ten nothing lead.
Penalties, three penalties total in the football game.
Like I said before, going, you have not seen the best of Chattahoochee.
Look for him to out some of those kings, some of those mental lapses they had in the first half.
This should be a ballgame here in the next 24 minutes.
And eight yard gain for Broadus makes it second and two.
That is Maxwell sweeping around right end over the 40 yard line up to about the 43 to 44 pushed out of bounds as he chased Nelson over there.
They walk that tight end from one side to the other again and then put put the Maxwell in that short motion and ran that went sweet rocks.
Max Brock Maxwell is the man of the hour right now.
He has been really a man among boys here tonight ten nothing Lammers over Chattahoochee we start the third quarter here on GPB guilt tirade.
Trey McDaniel and coach Dave Hunter the man in motion it's Maxwell and they give the fake give was again that misdirection play as coach talked about and on the carry it looked like Reed Dill.
They ran that counter scissor play the wing teams call it decision play with a wing back comes underneath and it looks Starks like the.
Sweeping and.
Gain of about two.
You can see the center play it starts like Max was going to carry it he hands it back to Reed Gil on a scissor play up inside on the weak side.
One gain of about one that'll make it second.
And nine four.
For Lambert at their own 43 1107 start of the third quarter here at the Arena and Johns Creek Lambert against Chattahoochee.
The man in motion was guilty, but it will be kept by Broadus, who's close to midfield.
How about the 49 yard line?
Trey McDaniel, Gil Broadus doing a great job there of keeping the defense on their heels.
Nobody Really knows who's getting the football.
You got Reed in there, you got Daniel Myers.
It ends up being Broadus calling his own number.
Right now, the Chattahoochee defense doesn't know what's going on.
They're giving up yardage in five, six chunks.
Towson had a boring one to go to make the tackle for the Cougars, a gain of about six.
The Man in motion as well who gets the pick over midfield 45 close to the 44 the Chattahoochee territory in pushed out of.
Bounds let's get Georgia Tech quick pitch that we saw early in the first half and he runs it again into the boundary stretches it way out nice block by number one Reed gill.
And out in space big time.
That's the second first down of the series.
In on the tackle for Chattahoochee was reaches car to catch the fish who makes the tackle eight rushes for 73 yards for Maxwell so far and having a big night Trey McDaniel first and ten at the Chattahoochee 47 and the key is to Myers who continues to take it deeper into Cougar territory over the 35 down to about the 33, and again.
Blowing.
Out the line of scrimmage.
That's at the point of attack.
That's the inside play.
Again, the midline.
And you got to really be disciplined to handle all those ups and teams.
Yeah.
The options that the options team have.
Seen for C.J.
Leggett might have saved the touchdown, right?
C.J.
Leggett on the tackle, the aforementioned C.J.
Leggett, Trey McDaniel, thank you.
How to bring up a first and ten at the Chattahoochee 32 and Lambert driving and chewing up a lot of clock in real estate that gives again to the work force who has been all night long, Daniel Myers, all five foot five of him.
And he takes it over to throw about down to the Chattahoochee 29.
And again, Coach Hunter chewing up clock ball control a tractor pull.
As Coach Maxwell told us, that's what was the game plan.
Coming in extreme extreme patience.
Not interested in getting the ball in the right now.
Single back behind Broadus man in motion now is delayed victim again.
To myers speeds 25 2015.
How about down.
To the 12 of Chattahoochee Daniel Myers first down Daniel Myers having his coming out party here in the second half.
As he beat your back.
Chattahoochee cannot solve the midline to the to the left side.
They really struggled with that, particularly in this drive, but also in the first half.
Towson Cabaret and C.J.
Leggett among those making a stop first and ten for Lambert at the Chattahoochee 12 that is Maxwell over the ten down to about the eight.
And Gill you saw in the previous play that going over the century, Mark is Daniel Myers.
He's got exactly 100 yards and he's picked up about 40 of them here on this drive.
Last week, we saw Goodwin and Jordan Parker.
Coach, we're seeing one here tonight in Daniel Myers.
They are so balanced, though.
Maxwell is also an out had an outstanding game as has brought us.
838 in the third quarter chewing up clock the fake give is to Myers and he takes it further into Chattahoochee territory down over the five go about the four that'll bring up another second and goal coming up from his corner position is number four.
The team leader Will Johnson to perhaps save a touchdown right there.
You can say take that ball up inside again.
And he just got as he gets behind his pads extremely well.
Extremely well.
He's alpha small, but he looks a little bit and runs a little bit like one of those Georgia guys and they walking third and.
Goal arsenal oh it just like.
Glides by Lambert leading in this football game said nothing.
The man in motion is in there's a fumble in the end zone.
And it looked like it was recovered by Lambert.
And if it is, it is a. Touchdown and it is that ball was fumbled over the line.
Brady, McDaniel and Gill, I believe the ball broke the plane and it was secure.
In Broadus his hands for the go ahead and awarded the touchdown I believe they recovered this ball anyway the fake it Otis keeps the net keeps it in the ball is loose and Maxwell I think was right there, Johnny on the spot and he was Brock Maxwell you saw it in your living room for the touchdown and Lambert extends their lead to 16 nothing and Brandon Everett with an opportunity to make it 17 nothing And he does 746 left in this third quarter and a great drive by Lambert by the fumble by Brown It's Johnny on the spot.
It's Maxwell they're on their way to a possible.
Win.
We'll be back.
Here on GPB, back here at.
The Chattahoochee fans need to hear about tonight.
Jerry McDaniel down 17.
Nothing.
No.
Right now, their defense is just glad that they're sitting on the bench somewhere, getting up, getting a sip of water because they've been on this football field for at least two thirds of this football game.
I don't care how fast, how skilled you are, if you can't breathe, you're not going to be able to tackle anybody.
So they're off going to get the ball here.
Try to settle this team down a little bit.
And for gosh sakes, Coach Crowder needs him to get some points.
All right.
Kicking off for Lambert will be Brandon Everett and the.
Ball sails out of the end zone and Chattahoochee will take over first and turn it.
Over to Coach Dave Hunter with.
And it's all it's just.
It's really, really critical that they respond.
Now, if they don't respond now, they can really going to have trouble.
They had a nine play, 68 yard scoring drive that took up 4 minutes and 14 seconds.
And Coach Mack's work with, just to say that, been 8 minutes and 14 but Chattahoochee he's really got their backs to the wall.
The momentum is all on the other team they're all on the other team, Lambert side.
They must both get some points here.
They got to move the football and keep their defense off the field.
Travis Marshall brings his troops up to the line of scrimmage.
We're going to get a penalty for too many men in the huddle.
You saw the reaction of receptions.
Terry Crowder said there's a five yard corner from the previous camp, first down.
And Trey McDaniel, you see the frustration etched all over the face of Terry Crowder.
His coach just said they need to respond and that's not how you do it.
They behind the eight ball now first and 15 down by 17 out of the shotgun as Marshall almost misses a snap.
In the slot.
Oh midfield was down 3030 4520 ten by touchdown Chattahoochee no flags they responded didn't know what to do yeah I guess that a real response I guess that five yard penalty didn't really matter.
At this big play.
But you know, Trey, here we are again.
The defense is going to go back on the field.
They need a three and a half.
All right, Trey McDaniel.
Hey, coach, take us through.
They throw the flare and a great block by the wide out on that side, the split in and just just a tremendous run by Will Johnson.
He's got some speed for.
Three six now.
One of those things bought him.
For three six in the 40.
And you saw it right there.
He took it to the house and just that quick with a quick strike.
Trey McDaniel, the Cougars are on the board.
Soon as Johnson put hands on that ball at the 25 yard line, you knew he was gone.
You look back, you didn't see the safety.
He Took that 185 yards to the house and we got ourselves a ballgame.
Boys 17 to 6.
Block on the outside.
I talked about was was thrown by Regis Kirkham back to you.
And number one, Kevin, Haiti's extra point is good.
That'll make it a 17 seven ballgame.
Trey McDaniel, take us through the touchdown.
Well, obviously they want to put some points on the board and they don't want to waste any time they get the ball to their best playmaker, Will Johnson.
He shows his 436 speed and what makes Arkansas so enthralled with him as for other SEC schools, he takes it 85 yards, practically untouched.
And that's how you respond.
But Coach makes a great point.
Now you put your defense back on the field, a defense we both just said has been on the field about two thirds of this football game.
Now.
It's how does their defense respond?
Offense is answered.
What does the defense do?
And Coach Hunter said Maxwell was concerned about the quick strike ability of Chattahoochee and their ability to just get on the board will real quick and not being able to take anything off the clock.
You see Will Johnson's numbers big.
Night as he plays on defense as well.
So he's going to need a little rest right now.
The Chattahoochee defense must respond.
They got not only do they need to, they need the rest, but it's up for them now.
They need a three and out battle.
Haiti will kick off to Vasquez and Brock Maxwell if kickoff at his own 40.
Both Maxwell and Vasquez are about at their own eight go on.
Maxwell takes it at his eight.
1520 gets outside 25 over the 30 about to the.
33 and a good special teams tackle there made by Eric Garratt, the junior 510 £165 does a good job getting in there and making the stop on special teams.
133 Matt Kelly number 34.
First and for Lambert at their own at their own 20 it looks like about the 27 yard line got eight 724 in this football game and we got a good in here on GPP a great one and you hope we we hope you're putting up your feet, sitting back in your chair and relaxing on this Labor Day weekend, that's a lunging.
Daniel Myers over the 25, up close to the 30 feel about over the 30 to about the 31.
It's a four yard gain.
And, you know, they can live with that.
They're patient enough to live with that.
Chattahoochee needs to throw a throw and no gain on him.
Yeah, the Chattahoochee defense hasn't had a tackle for loss in a while in coach.
One thing that I'm noticing here with 7 minutes to go in the third quarter is Lambert's not doing anything to beat themselves.
Nope, that's what Coach talked about.
And we talk about our steps to success.
No mistakes.
I think they've had less than and they had two penalties, one penalty and no turnovers.
And you and I've seen a lot we've seen a lot of flags over the past.
I mean, enough, one season and it's very refreshing to see a team playing smart football.
The single back tires.
Were 17, seven Lambert out in front the Gibbs.
Ahead is to the Meyers on the fake yeah I think I think it was Maxwell.
Right yeah I think Broadus hit ball okay brother.
That was that that was that again the midline.
And then Broadus keeps the ball an excellent tackle by number two, Jake Kingery.
Kingery was there and.
Got stood up Broadus post through the tackle that's that strength training.
Again, I know they can live with the four yard games but can coach live with his quarterback getting like that?
But Towson and the Ravens over there trying to help him out.
A big third down here coach cougars need to stop.
Fake third down.
32 at the 35 605 and counting here in the third quarter.
Lambert and Chattahoochee begin to land around, scale back and start for long.
And right on cue.
The Cooper defense steps up and forces a funny situation for Lambert.
So that explosive offense is going to be coming right back on the field in a few moments.
I think this is Lambert's only Lambert's second, but I think they punted in the first half, the first time they had it.
So they dictated the tempo that can hurt you trying to change that.
And that'll bring up a punting situation for for Lambert.
Maxwell will be the punter and Leggett is the deep man.
And Leggett is at his own 35.
And Maxwell will punt at his own 20.
The Longhorns have Lambert leading in this football game 17 seven.
But Chattahoochee right back with a quick strike play from their quarterback Marshall to their slot receiver Nick Johnson.
Will Johnson, I should say Will Johnson.
And we are we have a ballgame 17 seven a good return here deal with give him great field position waving it off his leg it it'll take a bounce a Lambert bounce move a little too close for comfort down there making it look.
Close to the football and just got to feel ball and it'll just kind of feel about custom.
30 yards, 25 yards.
Anyway, it'll be down at the 15 where.
Chattahoochee will take over first in ten Georgia outdoors.
Get ready for the new season of Georgia Outdoors on GPB, you'll be able to cozy up with bats.
Hang on the beach, sea turtles, kayak down the many great rivers here in the great state of Georgia.
Get wild with nature.
Watch Georgia outdoors now at a new time, prime time, 730 Sunday's here on GPB first and ten at their own 16 for the Chattahoochee Cougars they trailed by 1017 seventh 501 here in the third quarter begins straight ahead for Chattahoochee is number 24.
By.
Hunter Fusco a sophomore.
Second and eight and correct that coach that was my bad that was Aaron Grant on the carry and you see him right there the back of him behind Marshall that is Marshall fakes.
And looking long for number 17 and the ball down the foul price at the 48 yard line they look like they went for the home and there.
To make the interception big turnover.
Trey McDaniel was our good friend Zach Bryce.
Yeah, he takes a nice step.
Pump and go looking for Sean.
Dirk down the sideline.
Zach Frye steps in front, does what he's supposed to do, goes up, gets the ball at its highest point.
Zach Price 6 to 187, uses his six two frame to get that football.
There's a reason why he had four picks last year and has already signed a lacrosse scholarship coach.
And you see the fight there between Dirk for the football between third and price and price able to corral it and hold on to it so that'll set up Lambert first and ten at their own 48.
Let's go downstairs John Nelson is downstairs taking a look at what's going on with Johnson and coach talked about that Trey McDaniel about the fact that the Johnson plays both ways.
Yeah, they're just above it now.
Gilder just stretching him out right now.
He's probably got a little bit of cramp and it's a.
Hot, humid.
Night tonight.
You just want to make sure he's going to be able to make it through all four quarters.
He is there bell cow on offense.
We already saw him take it 85 yards to the house for 16.
For third quarter.
Very, very good interception by the young man Cam Lambert, who might have got a little greedy not to get too much at one time, but give credit to the.
Lambert defensive back for making a great play, right?
No, I absolutely agree.
That's just what the doctor ordered.
But you can see what Coach Crowder's, you can see what Coach Crowder wants to get done here.
He wants to utilize the speed in attack.
This defense for Lambert, if he slows the game down, he's playing right into their hands.
But he gets a big play here from his senior corner, Zach Price, coach just talked about the great athletic ability.
But Blake, you saw it right there.
In such good position that the Chattahoochee guy was trying to catch up with him just to stop the interception.
First and ten four for Lambert at their own 48 to give.
His team and I tried to get there but it goes back to take a hard look at it.
Try to take it off tackle and reach you got a real nice play.
Yeah.
Myers tries to bounce it outside here.
Might have been better served to go up inside.
Regis cursing Cavaliers comes in and makes it great tackle here for no gain.
And that's one of the few times we've seen Daniel Myers him didn't go second and ten at their own 48 no gain for Lambert.
You see the man in motion his skill to give again straight ahead to Myers over midfield deep into territory for Chattahoochee down to the to the over.
Can see that.
Rose.
Is inside there road has kept the.
Ball and.
Looks like he gave it to Myers but it keeps the ball and gets a nine yard gain.
That's what it looks like.
We're going to have a call from measurements, too.
In Coach, when your defense is gas, the last thing you want to see is a64 £210 guy come rolling your way right through the middle of the line.
Trey, we have, what, 328 to go here in the third quarter and you look at how this game is going so far.
Your thoughts as we approach the fourth quarter?
Well, if Lambert has their way, Chattahoochee may only get the ball maybe two or three more possessions in this football game and they're down two scores.
So you've got to try to get this football back any way you can here.
And the game plan, Coach Hunter has been for it.
Sid Maxwell So just the of him on the sideline is to control the clock and be able to work it within the ability of Broadus and Myers and even in some cases son.
Brock Maxwell.
That's right.
The middle linebacker number two, Jake Kingery from from Chattahoochee is out of the game.
You get nicked up just little bit and officials stopped the play and took him out of the game.
He produces numbers 12, carries 69 yards and hasn't completed a pass.
But they're all tough yards, right?
Absolutely.
And if he gets one more yard, that'll be three guys in their backfield over 70 yards for the night.
It's Broadus.
The pitch all side through man turns the corner 35 down at the 34 of Chattahoochee.
And again, Dre and.
Coach.
They continue melt this clock next.
They run the Georgia Tech quick pitch again and really hard run by number 13 runs through a couple of tackles you've got to thank Chattahoochee defense is a little gassed.
And does a good job there to stay in bounds.
I don't know if it was meant to be intended to do that or not, but Maxwell stays in bounds and keeps the clock going.
I know it might be a little early to get into that conversation with 2 minutes to go in the in the third quarter right yourself up Brock Maxwell's numbers ten carries 89 yards two touchdowns second and a short one for Lambert at the Chattahoochee 33 they lead 17 seven effective for Bortles takes it but he gives it to the Myers and.
Myers is over.
The 30 yard line down about the 29 and that should be good enough for a first down for the Lambert Longhorns.
Just what the doctor ordered for Lambert.
Yep.
Chipping away a little bit at a time, moving the chains, eating the clock.
As soon as they set the chains back, the clock will start ticking again and we'll be down inside of 2 minutes to go.
This third quarter is almost in the books.
GILL It's flying by just about as fast as the first half and specifically to Trey the first quarter because that flew by and it seems like it's the same script.
It's the same same speed that the coach Maxwell wants this game.
First and ten at the Chattahoochee 28 it's Lambert to get to Myers goes over right guard down to about the 15 close to the 15 with the spot.
For.
Trey McDaniel.
See Johnson your thoughts about what's going on?
He's probably a little bit like I mentioned before, it's a very hot, humid night.
He's been playing both ways.
He's already taken an 85 yard short pass to the house.
He's just trying to get get rid of the cramps, put as much fluids in him as he can so we can get back out there and help his team.
They really need him right now.
Second and eight for Lambert at the Chattahoochee 28, the man in motion is Gill.
They his mind straight ahead, 15 over to ten inside the 10th down to about the nine.
That's that matter.
Who has to make that play again to the left side?
I have just worn him out with this play.
And again, we've talked about this all night long.
Coach Hunter, the strength and conditioning of what Lambert head coach Sid Maxwell has done, really paying off for that offensive line, blowing everybody out at the point of attack.
On the midline.
You leave the tackle alone and let the quarterback decide what to do according to what the tackle, how the tackle reacts and the guard is slipping underneath the defensive, tackling, just handling the middle linebacker and he's coming clean.
21 rushes a 122 yards for the five foot five, £188 Daniel Myers.
They give on the off tackle is to Myers again and that is over the ten nine and about down to the eight a gain of about one less than 20 seconds to go in this third quarter.
Well, Gill, they're going to keep giving it to Daniel Myers until Chattahoochee can stop him.
And I believe Chattahoochee defensive coaches said that's enough.
We're taking the time out now or excuse me, that's the end the quarter.
And it couldn't come soon enough for the Chattahoochee defense.
Now they've got to get a drink of water and catch their breath.
Keep in mind, Lambert can get a first down before they score.
All right.
And that's the end of the third quarter at 17 seven, a proposal here on the sideline at Chattahoochee High School.
There it is.
Will you marry me?
Trey McDaniel.
Coach Hunter, what a proposal.
Lambert up by ten end of the third.
We'll be back after these important messages on GPB between.
Hey, Steve, Steve.
I don't have Nova.
I don't have the promo for that.
I don't have it.
Okay Okay.
We're going to go for the same one.
Back here.
Johns Creek Lambert, 17 seven over Chattahoochee, started a fourth and drive and four more.
Dale Tyree, Trey McDaniel and coach Dave Hunter here and this has been the Daniel Meyer and quarterback protest is ballgame that's protest deep down one and in the end zone for a touchdown and again they've run that all night long all for right tackle a quarterback keeper and a score and that will make it a 23 to 7 ballgame pending the extra point Trey McDaniel and coach.
Well that's their offensive line Grant Mauer Jesse bare field and Tor Patterson to the inside three Trevor Duba and nix us the tackles but the left guard Grant Bower had just annihilated the middle linebacker several times because he's hampered the middle linebackers unprotected and they're running to the midline to the left side.
That was a fake midline.
And then the quarterback ran the counter, the right side, and this boat pulled him in the end zone.
Let's keep in mind, middle linebacker senior Jake Kimbrough has been a little nicked up, so he's been in and out of the ballgame.
And the offense for Lambert noticed that and they've taken advantage of it.
But I want to get back to what we just saw, a tremendous effort there by David Broadus offense.
You talk about the the ability of the offensive line.
You could see the playing quarterback turned back into kind of a quarterback little inside counter inside the tight end.
And Broadus just pulls through people.
If it weren't beef, we wouldn't have been for regular fun on the ground there.
I think his knees would have touched the ground.
He wouldn't have got the score.
So thank heavens his halfback was laying on the ground there and enabled the quarterback to get him the touchdown and he fell right over him.
And you're right, he broke his ball so he didn't touch the ground and able to get it.
Good culture in the game and you know they're they're working right now on Jesse Fairfield his center six foot two £260 senior taping him up That's the reason they took the timeout and they they are going to get back in and the attempt the extra point off the foot of Tyler Coleman.
When they watch this film as they continue to weigh in here, they watch this film.
I'm sure the coach is going to give some popcorn when they go to this movie, when they go to this movie.
And offensive linemen need to be getting caramel, caramelized popcorn cause they have played great.
I'm going to ask you to the significance of this victory early.
And, Trey, you had talked about early, you know how tough this region is and week after week you're going to play in a region of corn and how this game right now from a Lambert perspective because they beat Northwest with the last and now with a win possibly tonight over the defending champions they go to it up it means Gill that every game has playoff implications and could change the outcome of where you're seeded at the end of the season.
Now, do I think both of these teams will be fine?
Yeah, I do.
I think both these teams will make the playoffs.
The extra point by Koval is good to make that 24 seven.
Patrick goes goes home next week get to host Creek view and then you got South Forsyth Forsyth Central and Johns Creek.
I mean they could run the table very, very easily if this continues to hold up, you know, they're up three scores.
Right.
But we've seen the quick, quick strike capability of Chattahoochee.
Any hiccups along the way.
But more importantly, coach, I want to ask you this.
The intensity early on, possible letdown coming in here and the significance of this victory and being able to shed it right away and look ahead to your next opponent.
Certainly there's always that there's going to be some of that.
But you got a veteran coach on the other side who knows how to handle that situation.
Every time my team thought they were pretty good, I made you know, I got two back to back, two hard work.
Right.
And Trey, you can attest to that, don't you?
Yeah, I can.
Tell you what.
He got to make sure that you focus on the next game.
Okay?
We're about the last word, but, you know, Chattahoochee is still got a chance.
They would need a little help from from Lambert with some uncharacteristic turnovers.
And they would be uncharacteristic.
They had to turn the ball over tonight.
Just one penalty so far.
And they're playing a great game and doing in the kicking game as well.
And think about the kicking game, another kick out of the end zone by Brendan Everett.
And the only thing would worry about a little bit, Gale with with Lambert, their style of play is such that they could get they could get beat up.
All right.
Here's the steps and success we talked about.
They have not made mistakes.
They have executed the game plan through team play, and they played fast and they reacted very quickly on defense.
I think I think we're all right on the money here.
Coach, you were on your game when you came up with those?
Most definitely.
And I that had another word, methodical, because they've been just just just going at them and just relentless in terms of being able to execute their game plan first and ten for Chattahoochee at their own 20.
Marshall goes up top and there's a fumble and it's incomplete.
You know, that would have been a game changer.
That had been the final nail in the coffin right there.
Had they ruled that a catch and a fumble.
The fat lady could have been warming it up there.
Shot her over on the right side.
And Bible.
Separates the ball from him.
How to bring up second and ten for the defending.
Defender was Braxton Roman with that big hit number 20.
Fending for in-state champions in a world of trouble right now down 24 seven to Lambert in the fourth quarter we have whistles and Gill let's give some credit here to the defense for Lambert.
Although they have less speed than Chattahoochee, they've played very physical and they've done what the coach said.
They've kept them in front of them.
They have not gotten in a footrace except for the 85 yard touchdown by Will Johnson.
And speaking of Will Johnson, now in the huddle right now is Chattahoochee takes a timeout.
They burn a timeout to talk it over.
Trey I to ask you this, you know, when you look at what Coach Maxwell has accomplished, you know, not only had Sequoyah, but now here at Lambert, your thoughts about that and the ability to get not only the kids to buy in, but you get the the fans to buy in.
But more importantly, you're sending a message not only in metro Atlanta, but also the state of Georgia, that you're a program to be reckoned with.
Now, you use the words I was going to use.
He's got this team and the community, although they're still in the buying phase, they have bought in.
He's got the kids believing in what he does.
They made the playoffs in their first year.
How could you not believe in what he does?
So the kids know if I trust this guy and I trust my coaching staff, which by the way, has seven guys on it that played for him at one time or another and they've bought into what he's selling as well.
They believe in their coaching staff and they believe if they trust him, he'll take them where they need to go.
If they think he close this deal here tonight, he's he's won the $64 million question.
And speaking of the coaching staff, six members of, his coaching staff, Coach Maxwell, played for him at Sequoia.
He brought him over here to to Lambert.
And that pass for Marshall is complete to C.J.
Leggett.
And C.J.
Leggett takes it over the 25, up to about the close, the 30 yard line, about the 28 perfect pass in the slot.
Nice, nice move by C.J.. And Coach Crowder's really high on not only C.J.
Leggett, but also Aaron Gordon in addition to Chase Nelson.
But Gil, what you saw there was you saw four white jerseys making that tackle the Gibbs and the pitch, the fake pitch is to give this to number nine, Luke Wagner.
And Luke Wagner is over the 30.
They had a die play that was legit.
And then the pitch to Wagner he gets it over the.
This is an option play and the timing never was there.
And Lambert on on Johnny on the spot there defenders over there to make the play and just a relentless pursuit the Lambert defense and among those over there, Danny Edgeworth.
You know, just looking at the swagger from the beginning of the game right now, I think Lambert came in thinking they had something to prove.
And so far they proved it.
And they got about ten more minutes and 25 seconds to show the state of Georgia and show the world watching this game on a GP record that they are for real and they are a program to be reckoned with here in the great state of Georgia.
Well, I'm definitely a believer, Gil.
I didn't know what to expect coming in I didn't have the privilege to see them play last year.
I was definitely impressed with the numbers 83 in your first year.
But I am a believer now.
You know, not only is this team, this community buying into what he's selling, I'm definitely buying in to what Coach Maxwell is selling to.
He's getting a lot out of these kids and they are playing their hearts out for him tonight.
He's a molder of men.
You know, I told him this on our conference call.
You don't write a book.
I mean, you know what?
What a wonderful football coach.
But more importantly, what an impressive dad, what he's done with his son, Brock Maxwell, who's been outstanding here tonight.
The punt and it will take a Chattahoochee role and Lambert will take over first and ten with a short field work with GPB Sports here now in Athens with up to a minute score its full season schedule sports news rankings at Super Bowl.
Our new app is the perfect way to keep up with all your favorite Georgia high school football teams for the entire season.
Download the GPB Sports Football app on your iPhone and iPad today.
You know.
I asked coach Hunter this last week does he have an iPad?
Did he download that right at GPB?
Trey Hunter I mean.
Trey McDaniel Have you done.
I have not done it.
I not gone into the realm of iPhones quite yet.
It's low cost prohibitive at this time.
All right.
First content for four Lambert and to give again is to the the big man little man.
Let me just let me just speak a minute about Chattahoochee, if I could.
You know, there they go.
They're like, you know, they're going to have to lick their wounds, it looks like.
And we spoke so highly of Coach Maxwell and he's most deserving.
But they've got an outstanding football coach at Chattahoochee and Terry Crowder and his staff.
And you'll see them respond without any question.
They'll respond.
You know, sometimes the best thing can happen when you want a bunch in a row and everybody's riding high.
Can they get Japans knocked out manage a little bit but he'll he'll respond because he's an outstanding football coach now goes to the fullback and they're going to just be patient.
The prescription.
Is man just to run the football and that's what they've done.
But again, to reiterate that Coach Crowder, well, he'll look at this film and work from it.
See the rushing, rushing yards.
Those are Georgia Tech type numbers.
Gil Lambert, 300 yards, Chattahoochee, 18.
That's that's an embarrassment.
They're going to work on that this week, no doubt.
No question.
Speaking of Georgia Tech, we saw them really mow over Western Carolina last night.
And of course, Georgia will play Boise State tomorrow in the Georgia Dome appointment TV for me, Gil.
There you go.
Former TV for a lot of us.
That's right.
300 yards rushing that he wanted he wanted this game to be on the ground.
And he shook hands with West.
And I'm sure head coach Mark Rick and staff are watching this football.
Here.
Tonight on TV.
We have whistles, the third and two and then coach, check check this out.
These these offensive linemen, we can't give them enough props.
They're still getting after this game in hand.
They're probably going to win this football game, no doubt, with 8 minutes to go.
And they're still getting after in there, maintaining blocks ten, 15 yards down the line is down from the line of firing off the line of scrimmage.
You see cramps and number it looks like number 54 Chattahoochee.
Man all star up front right now is the left guard, Grant Bower.
And I'm sure I'll play that coach to see the film and probably come tell me you missed it.
But what really played well.
Playing like Jack Bauer, that was Brandon Keith going off the sidelines.
And, you know, we've seen a lot of problems cramping here tonight third and seven for lamb at their own 47 as they approach midfield they lead this ballgame 24 seven the picks it's to Maxwell turns the ball over midfield.
About to the Chattahoochee 48 and brought down over there.
For Chattahoochee machine.
Belial and.
They run that Georgia Tech toss again but the number 11 does a great job to get out there.
That's his first coach.
You're the only one that can say his name, but he's having a heck of a game tonight.
He's suffering from some cramps right now.
He got up gingerly from that last play, but he's done a great job so far tonight of turning those sweeps inside.
Aside from a couple of times he's done a good job there, waiting for help to come in for his fellow defensive players.
He plays both ways.
So it's I'm sure he's gotten some get some cramps.
Of course, the Catholics and Belial both over there to make the stop and you see him working on a cramp.
And again, that's Keith Brandon Keith defensive end, six foot 200 and £200 sophomore getting worked on his team trailing in this football game 24 seven.
And that'll bring up a punting situation for Lambert and Brock.
Maxwell will punt at his own 37 yard line 724 to go and whistles.
Delay of the game game one.
One one.
Oh Lambert.
Next week we will be in St Richard at Sea Peachtree Ridge.
Take on Newnan.
Your thoughts about that football game, gentlemen.
Can't wait to see it.
Looking forward to seeing Peachtree Ridge.
They are dismantling Roswell tonight, so they've got a heck of a team over there.
That's how Peachtree Ridge in the Georgia Dome is very impressed.
They played it very good.
It all came very close.
And they've got some outstanding football players.
But by Maxwell and letting it roll and bounce and C.J.
Leggett and Chattahoochee will take over first and ten at their own 29.
Let's go.
Jacqui Britton, what scores from around the great state of Georgia tonight, Jacki?
It is all yours.
Thank you.
Now for your scores around the state.
We're tied at 13 with McEachern in lound here at Chattahoochee.
Lanier takes the lead, 24 to 7.
Then we've got Stevenson taking the lead, 35 against Cedar Grove, six.
Then we have Kell beating up on Etowah 30, 26 to 7.
We've also got Laster beating up on Sprayberry 30 826.
Peachtree Ridge is taking the win so far right now.
Roswell, 31, two, two.
And then we've got Brookwood taking the lead against College Hill, 24 to 7.
That was actually a final score on that one.
And then we have Creek side trailing by one at the half against Banneker, 7 to 6.
We also have Mary's trailing by four.
Tucker takes the lead on that 50 to 11, and then our last game at Gill, we have Carver, Columbus and Buford.
Buford takes the lead, 35 to 7 for the final score on that game.
Back to you.
Well, and of course, Buford trying to get revenge last year with that big game from Isaiah Crowell.
If Columbus, if ever the phrase they don't rebuild, they reload.
That's the Wolfe's.
No question.
Holy cow.
And you know, the other score jumped out at to me, coach.
You know, Duke scores Roswell really still struggling after the tough loss last year to Collinsville and last year with Eddie Ray really still continue get it last.
Lester bait work with it that's.
Right there you go look.
What turns around and handles Collins Hill handedly it sounds like tonight.
So I knew we would get our brook went in.
Yeah we get that and now you know with me.
Now it wasn't me now that's I'm going on record that wasn't me.
I make no bones about it.
That's okay.
We love it.
All right, Marshall Rolling out.
It's Carroll and his sack.
And again, the Lambert defense and playing inspired football here tonight.
Gentlemen.
He gets cut a guinea, sprints to the left, and he's cut off right by number 30, 35, and 66.
The pursuit gets him the down low.
They got to get rid of that football.
And that's even with max protection, too.
And just the ability of to read defenses, but more importantly, get in and make the sack.
So that'll bring up a second and 16 passing a down, but instead it's going to be a handoff and that is to the right.
And he is over the he is pushed back.
The loss of about one Trey McDaniel.
We sort of spread.
Yeah right now I'm not saying all hope is lost but with 6 minutes and 20 seconds to go in the game down 24 to 7 and it doesn't look like the Cougars are firing on all cylinders.
I don't think that's a directive from the sideline.
I just think some of the wins been taken out of the sails of these players, 13, 16 along 16 for Chattahoochee and the spread behind 24 seven to Lambert over on the right flat the intended receiver over there with Will Johnson.
And it's incomplete.
I think he's still not himself.
Will Johnson going out there looking like a similar play that he scored the long touchdown on.
But he's a little gimpy, still struggling with cramps.
They want to get him on the field as much as they can, but he's going to go ahead and check out here.
He's just really struggling right now.
He's sucking wind.
Keep in mind, this is the first game for Chattahoochee.
They don't have a game under their belt like this.
Lambert Longhorn team does.
Kevin Haiti will punt in his own end zone for Chattahoochee.
And we have whistles and a timeout let's take a break with the score.
Lambert 24, Chattahoochee seven late fourth.
We'll be right back on GPB.
Okay.
2213.
Okay.
All right.
I might ask your reaction, both of you guys, to that.
I've seen them play.
All right.
You see our score here, 24 seven Lambert over Chattahoochee.
We have another score.
We're going to flash up on the screen right now.
We'll get reaction from Coach Hunter and also Trey McDaniel.
Apparently right now my teacher is trailing down hand in Valdosta.
I think McEachern is.
Winning, I'm sure.
Okay.
Correct.
He turns up with 4 minutes to play.
I think that what we heard by touchdown, 20 to 30, 20, how big that.
It would be huge.
But McEachern got a really, really good football team that's all in the down beat north Gwinnett, their quarterback is outstanding.
And what a job Carl Hoffman's going over there Great job he's doing with that program.
The Indians are for real.
They know that Lambert has not had a man return back in punt return formation in the last two parts, but they don't want him to turn it over.
The guys is not paranoid, but Boyd, he doesn't want that turnover.
So a lot of things can change against the speed in five and a half minutes.
So we just going to play it safe.
Their offense is going to get the ball getting great field position and scoring right now is not your objective deal right now.
You're just trying to eat up the rest of this clock and get into the locker room and get home healthy.
And the ability you've been able to do that pretty much all night long.
I'm so impressed with this team on both sides of the ball.
They've played almost.
And for a team that's only in its second year of competition, I just can't say enough about how impressive that is.
I admire what stood up.
Ball was put on the carpet but was blown dead.
Thursday I guess we put to.
Put the onus on them so they finally.
Is that a fumble.
It was they were they're given the ball.
They're Chattahoochee.
All right.
They're going to get the ball to Chattahoochee.
But what was it that I said about flawless football?
I take all that back, take a look at it.
You see Meyer's going in and he stood up and the ball is really wrestled away on the ground.
Trey McDaniel and Coach Hunter.
It bounces on the ground and they count it dead.
And I think the guy picked it up and now he's on the ground.
When he picks it up, it's a good call by the officials.
Travis Marsh was one of those who wrestled that football away, 76 and a ball on the recovered by Chattahoochee so Chattahoochee will take over first in ten at at about their 32 yard line or correct that about their 27 yard line 27 yard line first and ten for the cougars they trail is football game 24 seven and Lambert and that is Aggies straight ahead when the Wildcat to Grant who gave it to TJ Russell TJ Russell is checked in at quarterback for the Wildcat.
They're trying to change things up a little bit here and T.J. Russell to give to Grant and you see the play right there.
Are trying to I think they're trying to get another.
Quarterback in here in a little bit more experience.
Get a little bit more work coach for next week.
Yes.
I think so.
And again, to give is to.
Looks like it's to go out again and it is over the 30 up to the 32.
And what's your thought strength in the wide open or some people might fly.
Yeah some people may think that they're quitting with 5 minutes to go in the game, but they're down three possessions in this football game.
Like Coach said, they're trying to get Russell a little bit of luck.
He does play wide receiver for them.
They're trying to get him a look under, under center or in the shotgun, rather.
And they've also brought Aaron Goran into play running back.
So they're just trying to find out what they have.
This is, after all, their first game and they're going to be going into, you know, nine more reaching games after this.
They got to know what they have to work with on Russell's pass.
The intended receiver over there right now.
Number reaches Kearse a chasm is.
Hand.
And the ball was one right?
Yep I think they can it is a catch.
And they did.
It in.
Okay, take a look at it.
You can see it did a.
Great job scooping it up cursive Catholic is you got look at it you got.
That name down now Gill he gets his hands out of the ball I believe it was a catch.
It's a great.
Catch.
Doing it on both sides of the ball tonight.
All right.
But that wasn't enough for a first down.
We'll bring up a punting situation for for Chattahoochee.
What, about 346 to go the pooch punt and it'll take a Chattahoochee bounce pushed out by Garet and Lambert will take over first and ten right there.
All right.
Again, let's look ahead to next week.
Peachtree Ridge alluded.
I'm looking forward to that football game.
I think Peachtree Ridge is going to be a real tough battle for Newnan, especially at home.
I think Newton's got a little bit more to prove than does Peachtree Ridge.
I think on paper, Peachtree Ridge definitely the advantage.
They are the perennial powerhouse team up in that area.
They got a new coach this year, interested to see a coach lead with his philosophy, how it's how it differs from Coach Ballard.
And we'll see what happens next week.
I do expect it to be a good football game.
Coach Hunter, when we see a different Victory Ridge team, well.
I think you so I think you'll see a ball control team from Peachtree Ridge, but they've got plenty of explosive power.
And also Newnan is a very proud program and this will be a good football game.
Very good football game.
Newton's very physical football team.
You see it live right here on GPB.
And I want to say also thank you to the outstanding coaching staffs here at Chattahoochee and Lambert for giving us access.
And our great producer in the truck, Steve Graham, who does great job in setting up those conference calls.
Coach Maxwell and Coach Crowder couldn't have been more accommodating, and I want to thank them personally.
In addition to the the administrators here at both of these fine schools.
It was a great week for us.
Yeah.
And I echo what Coach said about Coach Crowder.
I know we're singing the praises of Lamberton, but this is one heck of a program.
They're down, but they're not out.
I look for them to be right back in the thick of things at the end of the year.
Exactly.
And but it goes to the point that that Coach Hunter said straight up, you know, about playing coming in your first game is defending state champions is always that pressure not only that but you're on a statewide television.
Everybody's seeing it not only in metro Atlanta, but you're seeing it around the great state of Georgia.
And people look at this and they see this.
And then you a winning streak on at the same time.
That's tough.
It is tough.
A lot of pressure on kids.
But again, as Trey said see in response to is an outstanding football coach has developed a really fine program here and he's he's going to have lots of things to work on but that's okay.
He'll he'll you'll see you'll see them respond very positively.
Yeah.
Watching film this this week's not going to be fun for the coaching staff over at Chattahoochee but mark my words they're going to fix it that is Meyer who has been a workhorse here tonight.
And I'll tell you what, I can't sing this kid's praises enough.
A five, four, five and a half hundred and £88 junior.
And if nobody was looking at him tonight, they're looking at him.
I'm looking at him.
Holy cow.
He gets his pants down low.
Low center of gravity.
And his coach, Dave Hunter, said very was very astute what he said.
He's a human bowling ball.
The Lambert coaching staff that's in the press box are now leaving to go downstairs.
So as as a good friend of mine, Al McCoy, used to say, this one's in the old deep freeze.
It's for leverage.
Straight ahead, he is again.
Daniel melts.
Daniel.
And we can't say like I said, we can't say enough about this.
About Daniel Myers.
Excuse me.
Daniel Myers.
So the coaches ready to go?
They got a big grade on.
They got a.
Huge smile from ear to ear.
They deserve it.
They're going to have a good time tonight.
It's going to be a nice Labor Day holiday for them.
And we hope it's a safe and Labor Day holiday for you and yours.
They'll be working hard, trust me.
From all of us here at JFK in the film room, right on.
The film room.
They in the players heart.
Coach Max.
Hello won't let them get the big head.
So there won't be no barbecue.
And and.
Soft drinks single back in the backfield.
Man in motion is skill to give is to do again Daniel Myers and they'll be content to run out this clock.
And I really don't think Chattahoochee is going to see this football anymore tonight.
This is a shock, Gil, on on both sides a little bit.
I know Lambert came in with expectation, but I think they're a little pleasantly surprised by this outcome as well.
See the clock running down.
Stop now with about 37 seconds to go.
Trey McDaniel, it's been fun.
That's been a pleasure with you, gentlemen.
You've got a lot of respect for you guys, been on and working with you.
And Coach Hunter is always good a man.
Yeah, man.
You call this from up top.
I appreciate your having been putting up with an old fella like me.
You graces with your present every Friday night, his presence every Friday night.
And you can see everybody leaving the the arena here in Johns Creek on the campus of Chattahoochee High School.
Not happy as the Cougars go down 24 seven and this one is about ready to get wrapped up and stamped with the name the Longhorns wrote over center, barking out signals.
And this will be to kneel.
Down, to run this thing out.
And you can see the clapping already.
And This is about over and 9/10 of a second I.
Just to go.
I'm going to call a delay penalty and I just think I should let this go on.
Say the numbers on your screen.
A big upset here tonight.
Chattahoochee 15 game winning streak goes completes a big win for Lambert and Sid Maxwell.
They go two two and on the year, of course, the victory in week one against Northwestern.
WHITFIELD And a win here tonight, kneel down by Broadus.
Let's go back to it Coach Hunter.
Well McDaniel congratulations to the Lambert Longhorns they have met play the game with a masterful game plan congratulations to them.
I know Coach Crowder and his kids are hurting and his community is hurting, but you'll see what they're made of.
They'll come back.
Next.
This is a huge.
Game because at the end of the year, I think we all agree here in this press box, these may be the class teams of Region seven.
This has huge implications because if it comes down to a tiebreaker, what's going to get the nod and they go in as the number one seed?
I know we're many weeks away from that.
But don't forget this game when the regular season time ends, our Jackie Burton is trying to collar coach Maxwell who had a big victory here tonight, 24 seven.
If you just join us over the defending state champion, the Chattahoochee Cougars and a tough.
Loss.
For Jerry Crowder and company.
Let's go downstairs.
And Jackie standing by with a very happy head coach.
Sit.
Maxwell Jacket is all yours.
All right, good.
We're standing here with head coach Lambert, said Maxwell.
Coach, you in here and dominated against the defending great state chance how do you feel right now?
Well you know it's.
My hat's.
Off to my coaching staff with a great game plan and.
The young man who.
Prepared since January.
To get to this moment.
It's been a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication.
And when you do that, you have success.
Well, earlier this week, you said it's not the best team went is the one that executes.
How do you think your team did that tonight?
How proud of them are you?
Well, I think we control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
When you do that, you know, you know, the chances come your favorite.
Well, is this a signature win for your program?
Well, you know, being a second year program, you know about any when we get to signature win.
But this is a good one.
All right.
Thank you.
Good luck or congratulations.
Back to you, Mark.
Jackie, thanks so much.
The game is over, but the postgame show is just kicking off.
Stay with us.
We've highlights scores from around the state and lots of live interviews coming your way as the GPB postgame show kicks off.
Stay with us.
Hi again and welcome back to the Arena at Chattahoochee, the Chattahoochee Cougars 15 game winning streak comes to an end tonight.
The Lambert Longhorns picking up the victory, 24 to 7 tonight.
Hi again, everybody.
I'm Mark Harmon.
We're at our GPB postgame show.
Jon Nelson is alongside.
And Jon, a very big win for the Longhorns of Lambert.
They go eight and three last year in just their first full season and now they're out of the gate two and oh in year two.
Jacki Britton talked to Coach Maxwell and talked about signature wins.
He said everyone as a two year old is a signature win.
But I think, Mark, this one might be just a little more signature than the others now.
They really want it up front on the line of scrimmage, the offensive line making a lot of holes.
They rushed for over 300 yards and that's what Maxwell wanted.
He wanted it to be it.
Was it a tractor pull instead of a track meet?
He got his tractor pull.
And when you get the everything working, that's what you end up with.
Tonight, a dominating Lambert victory.
All right.
Time now to check out scores from around the state, our GPB Sports Scoreboard.
We're going to start off with the game that was on our webcast.
You could have seen that one of JB Dawgs Sports has Grady rallies to win in the last seconds 14 to 9.
Your final score there Colquitt County a big win over Thomas County Central 44 to 14.
Page two gives us Tucker beating Marist 14 of the last 15 years.
The winner of this game has won the region.
If tradition holds, it's Tucker, Brookwood, 24 seven over Collinsville right here.
Chattahoochee, a loser at home.
Lambert wins at 4 to 7.
Also, big win for Buford, 35 to 7.
How about that?
For the wolves?
They go for five straight traditional rivals, whether it's into a or crossover game.
Sure enough, comes out on top.
Banneker over Creekside by 15, Lasater leading Sprayberry, Eddie Friends and everyone winning late fourth quarter.
Stephenson leading late fourth quarter over Cedar Stephenson is loaded this year McEachern leading lamb that is a big big win for the Indians if they can hang on to win that 120 to 13 in the fourth.
I can't remember the last time anyone's other than Lance at the concrete jungle cal winter bye bye 11 over to a 26 to 15.
Peachtree Ridge holding the Roswell Hornets to a two run homer, winning by nine.
All right.
We are at Chattahoochee High School.
The Cougars kicking off Region seven play against Lambert.
John, let's check out the highlights in this one.
Well, first off, let's check our upcoming schedule just to tell folks what's coming up next.
Coming week, speaking of Peachtree Ridge, we get them next week on the TV side, they get Newnan coming to Swanny on the website, it's Cal and Woodstock.
Then after that and another match up in Region six quarter southwest to Cabin Mary's Holy Innocents and Wesleyan on the cross section there Millcreek in Norcross on the 23rd with Lovett and Buford Lasseter and Walton on September 30th, and the low right hand corner of Ringgold and Heritage.
A very special game at the end of September on the website.
Absolutely.
Like I said, we're at the arena.
Let's check out the highlights from.
The game today, 24 to 7.
Lambert taking charge right from the get go.
And that's the way things are going with Lambert.
That's what they wanted to do was make sure that things were going.
Brock Maxwell, you see right there, the cut back and that's what sprung him gets the cut.
No one touches him except for right there about the five yard line, 40 yards for the score that made it ten nothing.
Then David brought us fumbles right there.
But It's recovered by KSU Brock Maxwell, number 1317 to nothing.
Chattahoochee needed a big play.
They get it on the flare.
Let's count the number of people who touch Will Johnson.
I think it's zero, 85 yards.
They answer back when they needed to.
It was 17 seven right there, Chattahoochee on the way back, but brought up again on the keeper seven yards just barreling his way into the end zone 24 seven.
That is your final score as you see you know brought us right there that'll be your ballgame and you know the way that things are swinging 24 seven and Lambert is really moving.
All right.
Tonight's game was interactive experience.
Let's check in with our social media maven.
Jacki, what was going on on the Web tonight?
Well, Mark, we had a lot of things going on online.
We had a coach's wife up here, Coach Davis, for Chattahoochee.
She was talking to us and we have some of the results from the poll.
It was very interesting what you guys had to say about it.
We had a lot of really great answers on that.
Most of you, I believe 69% of you said, that the new extension is okay and that you guys like that, that it's fair for the amount of schools in Georgia.
31% of you said, as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
So that's all we talk about tonight online Mark.
Jacqui, thanks very much.
Now, John Nelson at halftime, you had a very interesting a very moving story about an Falcon and a team that's really had to struggle this year.
You know, a Parkview High alumnus who knows what it's like to play on these Friday night lights saw what has been happening.
We've had two just two losses of players in South Georgia, one at Fitzgerald, one at Locust Grove.
So a heat exhaustion this particular season.
And he wanted to do something to reach out to both schools.
He did exactly that.
And here it is from the Locust Grove point of view.
We came out here just a normal day, going through some walk through type stuff and the little weight lifting.
And then afterwards we did some conditioning for us, never showed any signs of complaining.
They never said anything.
And obviously he was sick.
And, you know, just what type of character he.
Had any football practice before August 1st is voluntary and Locust Grove scores.
Jones was known as a hard worker who always wanted to get better.
On July 25th, Jones was felled by heat exhaustion after a practice and died a little over a week later.
Force will always be in his team's mind and heart.
He's our quiet captain.
He has it on the field.
Off the field.
He wasn't the best athlete, but he always managed to get the job done.
And he's just a great guy.
He lives in my neighborhood.
We always, you know, hung out.
He's just he's a nice guy.
And he just made you always made you laugh.
I always had jokes coming on.
Just he's a good kid.
It definitely opens my eyes to different things, helps me, you know, to whatever I'm doing and do it to my full ability because life is too short, you know?
So definitely that.
Michael Palmer was a part of Football Friday's at Parkview and now he's in Atlanta Falcons when he heard the story of Forrest and Fitzgerald Hines, D.J.
Searcy lost to his teammates the same way last month.
He knew he had to do something.
You know, when I initially read it, you know, I just I thought about my own life.
And when I lost one of my friends at Clemson and, you know, it kind of touched me and reminded me of, you know, what I felt during that time.
And how hard it was for me and my friends.
And, you know, you really just your heart goes out to those guys.
So Palmer wanted to tell these teams in very special messages that he.
Was with them, too.
I just want to let you guys know that, you know, my heart goes out to y'all and I'm praying for y'all.
And and I hope we all just continue to play hard and play for Forrest and and continue to play for Spirit and and for how much he loved the game that you guys would just continue to play through him and for him.
And Locust Grove was his guest at Thursday's Against the Ravens as a show of strength, support and camaraderie.
And made me feel great to know that he's feeling our pain because I know if if one of his teammates is just terrible and I know he's looking out for us like he's he's stand up for him.
Small towns in Georgia where he came from.
Palmer also invited the folks from Fitzgerald to come last night to the Falcons game, but unfortunately they couldn't make it.
But he did and said personalized messages to both schools.
A very humbling story, John.
Great story.
Great story.
Well done all the way around.
We got one score to update real quick.
McEachern has won that game at Lions 2213.
Win for the Indians.
Now we send it over to Jacki Britton.
She's got one of the tonight stars of the game alongside.
Thank you, Mark.
We have a quarterback for Lambert.
Jake brought us here with us tonight.
Tell us about your offense and what was the key to this win tonight?
Well, it was definitely a collective effort up front.
Our offensive line did a really good job between Jesse Tore and Duba.
They got it done up front along with our running backs.
They did a great job and it was definitely just a complete team effort.
Talk about how you were feeling before you came to the game as opposed to now you came here and defeated the defending four eight state champs.
Well, we definitely expected them to be to really be really good.
And when we played them, we just executed our game plan to the best of our ability.
That's what your coach said as well.
Well, on a fine note, we had your mom up here.
She was playing red check with us.
And she said that your favorite book is Catcher in the Rye.
She also said that you don't read that much.
Was that just a is that really her favorite book or is that just the last thing you read for school?
That's actually the last thing I read for school.
Well, that's all right.
All right.
Mark, back to you.
We're done here.
Thanks very much.
Over on GPB Dawgs Sports tonight, we streamed a game and it was a dandy blessed trinity at Grady Early Kickoff at Grady Stadium.
And the man who knows what happened is the guy who called color Fletcher Proctor.
Fletcher let the rest of the world in on what went down.
And what.
Eternity they got on the board early with a 22 yard touchdown catch from Cameron Taylor on Thursday after a David Simon single game brought the Trinity.
Getting back in a game at least seven and three.
That's how well we're having a little trouble with Fletcher.
They're on the telephone, but we're going to check out now are GPB Sports Central Scoreboard from around the state.
We've got a lot of games to report on North Cobb and Centennial.
This was a game that went right down to the wire and it was North winning that game over Centennial in a close one, and they scored with less than a minute left and also on the board, Colquitt County, a big win at home tonight with against Thomas County Central.
It's a good five versus a four, a game right there.
Colquitt County, I believe, was winning 4414 at one point.
So a big win for Rush Propst.
And there's this final right there, 4414 Colquitt County over Thomas County Central.
Big win for the Packers tonight.
The Walton Raiders taking on Milton tonight.
And we don't have any other scoreboard.
So we're just going to move on here a little bit.
We're going to go over to Jackie Britton, who has another standout player sitting alongside her.
Jackie.
Well.
All right, Mark.
Now with us is Brock Maxwell, Phil Lambert, son of head coach Sid Maxwell.
Brock, start by telling us what is it like to play football for your dad as head coach?
It's a little challenging.
I mean, I feel like I kind of have to play a little harder to make him proud a little bit, you know, play for him, make him happy.
Well, that's okay.
That's normal.
What are your projections for this season after taking, you know, being able to look at this win?
How are you looking at the rest of the season?
I feel like that they will have a pretty good season and hopefully we'll play like this every game.
Well, how are you going to apply and keep that momentum from this game and apply it to the rest of the games this season?
And can you ask me that question again.
The momentum that you guys had tonight, how are you going to maintain that and carry that throughout the rest of the season?
Because you guys were great out.
There's great energy from you out here tonight.
We're just going to practice hard and do our thing, I guess.
All right.
Well, that's what he said.
Back to you, Jacki.
Thanks very much.
Joining us now on the phone is the head coach of Centennial High.
Geoff, me, sir.
Geoff, your game went right down to the closing seconds there with Cobb.
Tell us what happened.
Well, we we played about half of the game.
You can play until the last play.
We have that fourth and the second game and our tackle jumped out just after we had about 85.
But we knew we were struggle stopping them.
We just don't match defensively.
So we had we had all the ball game, but we probably, probably had the ball 40 minutes before the game, something ridiculous.
We just made a mistake.
All right, Coach, thanks for your call.
Thanks for hanging out with us this time.
We'll catch up with you again next week.
It is time for the Play of the Day.
Right?
Chattahoochee and of course, the Longhorns of Lambert.
And this one, a big, big win for Lambert.
Yeah.
And once again, let's go to the big play right here.
And here's your way that's going to go interception.
Look at that price.
Getting up in the air on a key play because Chattahoochee was only down 17 seven at the time.
And looking, looking, looking and Zack Price intercepting that with great concentration is the Sports Central Zone Play of the Day.
That's definitely the play of the day there.
I tell you overall, just been a very night.
Good night down here.
Chattahoochee kicking off the season.
It was their first game.
It was a region game.
Lambert had a game under their belts.
And I think that might have played a bit of a factor because early on there were some turnovers in Chattahoochee, there were some botched snaps from center, there was a fumble, just different things that, you know, when you have a first game, that's what happens.
Yeah.
And once again know we talk about what's going to happen with one and two in this region.
Right now it's settled in less tiebreakers.
Bring things down.
Week two of the regular season.
It's already figured out pretty much in this region.
Let's go to more scores as we got them here on the board and let's surprise folks and find out what.
I've got a couple of scores really quickly.
Elbert County upsets Wesleyan 27 to 10 and Mary Persons beats veterans in central Georgia ten six.
That, I believe my math is right is win number 294 for Rodney Walker.
So he's only six wins away from 300.
Alan Chadwick Right now at 291, he needed 292 tonight if he were to beat Tucker, Tucker wins 1511 over Marist.
Brookwood, Collinsville, 24, seven.
Elsewhere around the state, it was Lambert beating Chattahoochee.
The game you saw right here on GPB, 24 to 7, Buford, the big win there, too.
And on the season now over Carver Columbus 35 for seven there.
Well, a time to say good night.
You know, it's been a great night.
And we know that all of you've been hanging out here with us at the arena, watching us on the the iPhone and making sure that you're part of our family.
That's what we've been trying to do, is make sure that the football Fridays in Georgia family is one big family.
As the family starts to file in here to kind of give us their final thoughts.
Right next week, we've got Cal on the Web at Woodstock.
And of course, we're going to have the noon and the Peachtree Ridge game.
That game will start at 751.
Should be interesting.
Jack, any final thoughts that you have for us?
I thought it was a great game.
I was you know, I was pulling for Lambert.
I have a cousin, actually, who plays for Lambert, but I it was a great game all around.
Everybody did a great job.
But Dave Hunter, Gil Tyree down there, counter trainer.
Daniel, what's going on?
Your final thoughts?
Well, I want to as Trey, first of all, your thoughts about tonight's game.
I was not so sure what I was going to get out of Lambert.
But I tell you what, I'm a believer now.
Chattahoochee is a good football.
They they beat a good team tonight and coach everything they wanted to do came and scripted and they're moving on.
I said, we're going to do this, this and this, and that's exactly what they did.
And they were most impressive.
But you'll see Chattahoochee come back.
They learned a whole lot about themselves tonight.
So after this great Labor Day, we'll see you two good looking men next week.
Peachtree Ridge in Newnan, huh?
Appreciate that.
Come from at my age.
That's a big day.
A great ball game Mark big statement game for Sid Maxwell and company.
What a wonderful job he's.
Done.
In two wins over Northwest Woodfield and tonight against the defending state champion Chattahoochee Cougars.
They are the real deal the real the real deal.
And we can't rule out what the role Daniel Myers played in tonight's game.
No doubt, no doubt that he really does.
We want to thank Christy Walsh, our meteorologist, who's sitting up here with us as well.
Great weather.
Two weeks in a row.
You're doing a good job there.
Keep that up.
Great weather for this entire schedule.
Bring the.
Rain.
I'm going to keep.
I'm going to try.
I'm going to.
Try.
You can take all the credit you want.
Thanks.
Well, that's going to put a wrap on things here at GPB.
Ingeborg, thanks for joining us.
Tonight's game once again, your final score, 24 to 7.
Lambert knocking off the Chattahoochee.
Next week, we're going to the Lion's Den.
Peachtree Ridge in Newnan.
Be there.
We'll see it next time.
And until then, have a great weekend.
So long, everybody.
See you next week.
By the way.
And and I.
