If the kidnappers find out that you've called the police, an innocent man could die.

He made it very clear.

Two shots a day, at 6AM and 6PM, and he's able to function reasonably well.
It's... it's turned his whole life around.

If he's been over-exerting himself, that changes the timeline dramatically.

And once he goes into shock, things get very grim.

- I'm afraid it can't.

- You plotted with Ed to kidnap Thomas, but he screwed up and took the wrong guy.
Then Ed came back to talk it over with you.
- I beg your pardon?

- I did not.
- We have a witness.
- No, that's impossible.
She was in the ballroom at 8:30.

- No, Mr. Enfield.

- You two planned this together.

That's ridiculous.

- Uh, what?

So we argued, and Ed flew into a rage and came rushing at me.

(screaming) - I simply stepped aside.
He did the rest.
- Why didn't you tell me?
- I was trying to protect you.
- Thomas.
- She's not from... the "right" family, not to marry an Enfield.
- We decided to run away together.
- We needed money to get us started, so we came up with this scheme.
But we had no idea how to pull it off.
- And that's where Ed came in.
- I approached Ed.
And he said that he would arrange everything.
And he even typed the ransom note himself.
- It was our only chance at being together.
I hope you can understand that-- - Where is Shawn?
- I...
I don't know.
- Ed didn't tell you?
- He said that he stashed him someplace safe and that's all.
I swear to you, that is all he said.
- You really had me fooled.
I thought you actually cared about Shawn.
- I couldn't feel more terribly about what's happened.
I'm truly sorry.
- Well, I'll be sure to pass along your apology to Audrey.
Mary, can you take them in there and keep an eye on them?

Based on his injuries, he determined that Ed fell.

- So, she didn't lie about that part.
- But here's the strange thing: the coroner found arsenic in his blood.
- He was poisoned?
- No.
It was a gradual buildup.
Probably from long-term exposure.
- Well, the important thing right now is finding Shawn.
So we need to retrace Ed's steps.
- What exactly are we looking for?
- Anything that could help us determine where Ed put Shawn.
Where would you guys hide someone?
- Well, first of all, it'd be a place I know very well.
A place I have access to and that no one would be poking around.
- Maybe where you make your booze.
It's Wildcat bottles.
- They've been out of business for a long time.
- Funny.
They used arsenic in bottle making, to decolorize the glass.
- Maybe Ed used to work there... - A place he knows very well.
- A place he still has access to.
(dramatic music) - Trudy!

- Yeah.
Doctor Banting told me.
- You're gonna be OK, Shawn.
(Trudy sighing) (jazz music) - Miss Drake.
I want to retain your services immediately.
You know these charges against Thomas are completely false.
- The charges are very real.
- Don't be ridiculous.
Thomas was just a pawn in that girl's game.
All she ever wanted was our money.
- This has nothing to do with money.
- Thomas has a bright future.

And if you really cared about your son, you would've let him live his own life.
