The legislature provided $23 million to the school to offset budget shortfalls and keep the school open. As Mackenzie Spink explains, KSU updated a legislative committee about its progress on Monday.

Now turning to Frankfort and 2022, the Kentucky General Assembly required the Kentucky Council on post-secondary education to create a management improvement update.
Plan for Kentucky State University as a result of mismanaged funds.
The legislature provided 23 million dollars to the school to offset budget shortfalls and KET the school open.
Today, the interim Joint Committee on Education and Frankfort got an update from KSU.
Our McKenzie spank explains and tonight's Legislative update.
>> The improvement plan created by the Council on post-secondary education or cpe included 143 objectives for Kentucky State University.
These objectives required improvement in areas like student success and finance.
As of April, the school has completed 95 of these objectives.
Some of the improvements include moving university staff on to the state health care plan and cutting low-performing programs.
But the bulk of the remaining work lies in the school's finances.

>> The basic stuff that you need to make sure you do in each month to make sure that you you understand your cash position.
You're forecasting you cash position.
You're monitoring your budget.
And and you're able to present that information to the board and it's accurate.
That's probably that that's the majority of what's left to get completed.
>> Last year KSU ask the General Assembly to fund a new nursing center.
The request was declined.
That case use president says they expect to make another request in 2026. committee co-chair Senator Stephen West says hard questions need to be asked before the General Assembly could get to that point.
>> I asked this question in a positive light to try to try to help.
I want to see KSU succeed.
I want you all to to get to the right place.
We've heard so far that that there's a problem with the cash on hand.
CP has testified that that we're just now in year 4.
Starting to institute some low-level financial controls with all these.
What I would call.
Extreme headwinds.
Why should we as a legislature see these things?
And still strike that check for a 50 million dollar outweigh for a new a new program.

The bill that created this plan also included 15 million dollars in incentive funding that the school could receive.
It hits certain benchmarks for Kentucky edition.

McKenzie KSU is Kentucky's only public funded historically black college or university or HBCU.
The Joint Committee on Education also met with the states to new University presidents today.
Doctor Jerry Bradley of the University of Louisville and Murray State University's Dr Ron Patterson, who was only on his 15th day on the job.
