♪ ♪ Show me the, show me the way ♪ ♪ Do do do do da ♪ ♪ Do do do do da ♪ - Well, actually me and Johnny have been friends for a little over 10 years.
We met in college.
We played with each other here and there, but he moved away for Austin for like, I don't know, a few years and got to experience the music scene out there and came back with a renewed sense of inspiration.
And we hooked up again and kind of our search led us to, these other three guys back here.
The rest is history, I guess.
- Like you mentioned, I used to live in Austin and I was playing with this band that's like a tribute band for Jamiroquai.
During that time I was going through some things like personal things.
So I was like, wow, like, this is like a trip, you know, like, and I was listening to the song called Le Voyage De Penelope from Air.
It's a French band.
And I got inspired by that name.
And I was like, if I ever start a band, I'm gonna name it Le Voyage, which means "a trip" in French.
So yeah, when we started the band, I told the band "Hey, well, what do you think of this name?"
Told them the story.
And yeah, we decided to keep that name.
Like I said, I was playing a tribute band, Jamiroquai tribute band, and those bass lines just, I saw that it was making everybody dance.
So I was like, man, when I came back to El Paso, I was like, I have to start something like that.
I was there because pretty much here, you only hear like rock or like not that kind of dancing music, you know, like if you hear dancing music, it's probably like cumbia or something different, you know?
So I was like, let's try something different, there's a couple of cumbia bands in El Paso.
Reggae bands, so let's try funk music to make people dance.
And yeah, that's been our, our mission since we started the band.
- I would like to think that there's been a good reaction for sure.
There hasn't been another funk band so far, as far as I'm concerned.
So definitely, it's been interesting getting that reaction because, well, you have people aren't used to this type of music, so it's been cool.
Like it's been a really, really good experience and they're really good.
We've had some pretty good feedback.
So Exactly.
So like when there's like a lineup, it's mostly like rock, indie alternative and then it's like, oh, the funk band, you know, so yeah.
It's, it's been, it's been cool.
Being able to have or add in that little touch to, to the music scene here in El Paso.
- It's been pretty cool because sometimes like people have no clue who we are like, cause I think, I think we're pretty new, you know, like it's barely, when we started releasing our EP or all our singles, really people hadn't like have gotten a chance to really listen to our sound and music.
So when we, when we play shows, like people had no clue who we were.
So when we would go up on the stage and they were just staring and I was like, where are those guys?
You know?
So once we started playing, like some people started dancing and by the end of the last song, everybody was dancing and going on stage, dancing with Brianna too with some guys.
Yeah.
It was pretty fun.
- And that's definitely one of our goals, you know, when we get on stage to get people in like a groovy environment and a moving environment and we wanna give them like that a memorable experience when they get to see Le Voyage on stage.
(funky music) - This next song was actually our first single, we got to release back in 2019 and it's called "Golden Tides."

The last live session that we got to do was actually at a art gallery, but of course, like everything is just so limited the capacity, the crowds, of course aren't the same.
Actually, I remember when we got the news of the first COVID, the first person.
Yeah.
The first Covid case, we were actually playing a show and everybody just like got the news, like the alert.
And we were just like all looking at each other, like at the bar, like, oh my gosh, like.
So it had been like about a year or so until we actually got to do something.
But again, it's definitely been a different experience.
It's been, it's been, well yeah.
Some, there's been changes that we've had to adapt to.
And now hopefully soon enough, like we'll be able to get back things to normal.
- I think the good thing about that time off though, is it gives a lot of time to write and record.
So at least we were getting things done, but yeah, we definitely miss being on stage.
- I think it played a role in being able to just focus on the little details and like the vision that we have.
So it gave us time to really work on little things.
So I guess you could say, I guess you could say so, yeah.
This last song is called "Paradise."
We got to release this song in 2021.
