Have you guys been here before?

CHRISTINE: Well, I've been here, but it's been years.

VICKY: Let me catch you up to date.

We're actually standing in downtown Leesburg, and it's a very vibrant, fun, exciting town.

Great restaurants, breweries, they have outdoor dining cafes, live music on the weekends.

JOHN: Wow.

VICKY: It's just an amazing, amazing town.

JOHN: So much going on.

Well, would you be our tour guide today?

VICKY: I would love to.

In fact, I wanna start off by showing you one of my favorite streets in downtown Leesburg.

JOHN: Okay.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

JOHN: Let's go.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

I can see why this is one of your favorite streets.

VICKY: It's picturesque, and there's homes of every period of time.

There's a federal style home, Victorian homes.

There's even actually new construction right around the corner.

JOHN: What's the range of housing prices out here?

VICKY: So it's actually quite a large range.

You can move here and buy a condo or townhome somewhere between three to 500,000, and you have estate homes that go up to 20 million.

So you have a very wide range of housing and different types of homes and lifestyles.

CHRISTINE: And you're gonna show us three great properties today?

VICKY: Yes, so we're gonna do a little bit of driving out to see the first house today, which is a historic home.

I'm so excited to show you the old Gibson house, built in the 1790s and has been completely restored.

CHRISTINE: That's chinking, and if you've ever seen that process, it's really skilled and it takes a long time.

And this is done so beautifully.

And how can we not talk about this fireplace?

JOHN: 1790s feel, but then I see nice, new windows... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: That, you know, really blend in nicely.

CHRISTINE: Oh, yes.

So, this is a great space.

If you don't want somebody coming through the front door... JOHN: Mm-hmm.

This is not your great grandfather's log cabin kitchen, is it?

CHRISTINE: Oh my gosh, okay.

The two tone cabinets, you've got blue on the bottom, pine on the top.

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: Which blends so beautifully in this kitchen.

JOHN: And you have all these great appliances.

You have a planking stove top, they've got a wine fridge made by Sub-Zero, and a Sub-Zero fridge.

CHRISTINE: You know how I know this kitchen was made for me?

JOHN: How's that?

CHRISTINE: Look at this gorgeous farm sink.

You know I love a farm sink, but this one is particularly lovely.

JOHN: This fits you.

This... CHRISTINE: My kitchen.

JOHN: This should be your house.

CHRISTINE: I didn't think I'd ever say that.

It's my kitchen.

JOHN: Well, let's go see your bedrooms.

CHRISTINE: Ah, you know, look at the character that this pine gives this space.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: You know, from the stairs to the tongue and groove paneling.

JOHN: Before we go upstairs, I'm noticing these beams that lead into another room.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: Wanna check it out?

CHRISTINE: Yes, I do.

JOHN: Yeah, look at these for an entrance.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: So this room has a lot of character just like the living room.

It really just has a cottage feel up here.

JOHN: It's part of the charm.

I would say this is the primary because it is a little bigger than the last one.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: We have the same details in the ceiling... JOHN: Yep.

CHRISTINE: And I'm noticing the difference in the windows, because you have the two smaller windows... JOHN: Yep.

CHRISTINE: Which always remind me of a cottage in the woods.

Okay.

JOHN: And it's quiet in here, too.

CHRISTINE: It is very quiet.

JOHN: Perfect bedroom.

CHRISTINE: Ah-ha.

JOHN: Okay, one more room to go.

CHRISTINE: One more.

JOHN: And, I think I know what that is.

CHRISTINE: Oh, wow.

JOHN: The bathroom.

CHRISTINE: Double vanities, soaking tub, and a huge shower.

JOHN: Yep, with lots of different tiles and marbles.

Looks really nice.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: You know, the Gibsons probably never envisioned something like this in their house.

CHRISTINE: No, I don't think they would have, would they?

JOHN: Mm-hmm, no.

CHRISTINE: They probably never envisioned a bathroom in the house.

JOHN: Exactly.

(laughter) And they didn't envision this.

A washer and dryer.

CHRISTINE: Hey, that's convenient.

So we've seen the entire home.

JOHN: Yep.

And now it's time to guess the price.

Let's go find out.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

VICKY: Hey, so how did it go?

What'd you guys think?

JOHN: What a starter house!

VICKY: Amazing, right?

CHRISTINE: Oh, my gosh.

Let's just say, I would be happy to start here any time.

VICKY: What were some of your favorite things about it?

CHRISTINE: Oh, gosh.

The minute you walked in, you could just feel the history.

JOHN: And that living room was so wonderful.

It's a mix of classic cabin, but then with, you know, very modern rooms too.

CHRISTINE: Oh, right.

When you walk into that dining room, you see the view outside the windows, and then you walk into that kitchen.

You know, between the restoration, the renovation.

JOHN: It was meticulous.

VICKY: Wow.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: And then the den was also yet another great room.

I mean, we, we noticed how some rooms were sun-filled... VICKY: Yes.

JOHN: And others were cozy and yeah, mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

VICKY: Cozy, like you could grab a book and a blanket.

CHRISTINE: Oh, exactly.

VICKY: Yeah.

Now what'd you think of the upstairs?

JOHN: Two great bedrooms.

CHRISTINE: Right, right.

JOHN: Not what you'd expect, especially with the ceiling height.

CHRISTINE: Well, and I think the bathroom especially, because knowing that this is an older home, trying to fit that size of a bathroom... And I say bathroom, it's a spa-like bathroom.

VICKY: It's a spa bathroom.

JOHN: We said the Gibson's would have been wowed by that.

VICKY: Aw, I love that.

(laughter) Something to note about this house is the incredible amount of attention to the landscaping.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

VICKY: You have the mature trees... JOHN: Mm-hmm.

VICKY: You notice the beautiful pond back there and, uh, just all the details all around.

JOHN: I can't believe this is the starter house.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

VICKY: Yes.

So you have two bedrooms, and one and a half bath.

It's a little bit over 1500 square feet.

Built in the 1790s... JOHN: Mm-hmm.

VICKY: And about an acre and a third.

And it's a leveled yard, so it's great and very usable.

So what do you think it's worth?

CHRISTINE: This is really hard, 'cause this is the first time we've been in an area further out.

VICKY: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: So I'm gonna say $710,000.

VICKY: Okay.

That's a great guess.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

Okay.

VICKY: What about you?

JOHN: I'm just gonna go with 675.

VICKY: Okay, well the actual list price is $759,000.

CHRISTINE: Yes.

JOHN: Wow.

VICKY: Yay.

JOHN: Wow.

CHRISTINE: See?

JOHN: That's some starter house.

VICKY: It's a starter house, but really it's a forever home.

JOHN: That was a fantastic first home.

What's up for number two?

VICKY: I can't wait to show you number two.

It will be totally different.

JOHN: Okay.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

VICKY: So, let's go.

JOHN: Let's go.

CHRISTINE: All right.

JAMES: Leesburg dates back to 1758, and that's when it became an incorporated town in Virginia.

And the story, of course, is the story of America.

It's a story of Virginia and the south.

CALEB: This is Oatlands Historic House and Gardens, an 1804 mansion that was originally a plantation.

Oatlands is probably one of the most important historic pieces of property in Leesburg.

One of our jobs at Oatlands is to understand how people lived back then, and of course the records of those people who are enslaved were not kept.

We've been researching that for ten years, and we found about 130 descendants, and for multiple years we have an event that brings the descendants of the enslaved here.

But one of the most important things we're doing this year is we're bringing the descendants of the enslavers and bringing them together.

So we're a balance between the history of the United States and the plantation, and events.

Our whole motto is to learn about history in order to inform a better future.

JAMES: The first stirrings against segregation started in the 1930s in Virginia and other parts of the south.

The Black community was very strong.

They would not accept separate treatment, and demanded equality, and really spoke for themselves on that.

The protests were at the Tally Ho theater where Black people had to go up and sit in the balcony, and so they protested there in the 1960s.

The Balch Library was constructed in 1922.

It was not desegregated until after the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

And when the town took over the library, one of the things that all of us were dedicated to was that this library would now be an inclusive library historically.

And we had a special obligation, we thought, to tell the Black history of, of this library.

The Balch Library is an archive that has collected written material, photographic material, oral histories.

We've got plantation records, and we actually have the protest signs in our archives.

CALEB: Leesburg's got many, many important messages for the United States, especially now.

(doorbell rings) ♪ ♪ VICKY: Welcome to house number two.

We're here at Lansdowne on the Potomac, and this is a big house with a three car garage, and there's a lot to see and explore, and lots of surprises.

JOHN: Okay, so tell us about Lansdowne.

I know there's a resort here, right?

VICKY: So Lansdowne is a large community, it's a resort community.

It's got over 2,000 homes.

Town homes, condos, and single families.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

VICKY: People live here because they love the lifestyle.

It truly is a, like, you know, vacation while you live here.

JOHN: Yeah.

You know, if I lived here, I would get a massage every day.

VICKY: That's right.

You guys ready to see it?

JOHN: We'll go take a look, and then we'll see you afterwards.

VICKY: Perfect.

JOHN: All right.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

Oh, what a grand entrance.

JOHN: It sure is.

CHRISTINE: So you have this lovely sitting area to greet guests.

JOHN: That's right.

And look at the space.

CHRISTINE: Well, look at the ceiling.

That's like, a two story loft.

JOHN: Very nice.

And to my left, we have a guest bathroom.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

Oh, and it leads right to a grand staircase.

JOHN: And, formal dining room.

What a nice way to welcome your guests and then right to dinner.

Hey, I see a golf cart.

CHRISTINE: Oh, which means there's a golf course.

JOHN: Well, of course there is.

Take a look at that.

What a view.

This is resort living.

CHRISTINE: Okay, but before we get to the outside, let's just take in this family room.

JOHN: Oh, there's a family room, yeah.

CHRISTINE: There is a family room.

You have a lovely stone fireplace... JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: Home office.

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: Oh... JOHN: All right.

CHRISTINE: Look at this lovely breakfast area.

JOHN: All that light.

CHRISTINE: Oh, that is lovely.

JOHN: Into your gourmet kitchen.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: With so many different work areas.

So you bring your friends over, you get a round of golf in.

CHRISTINE: Yeah.

JOHN: Sure is.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

Oh, wow, this is a great space for a workout room.

JOHN: Or a bedroom.

CHRISTINE: It could be, easily.

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: Beautiful views of the golf course.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

And you know, with a room this size, you do not have to worry about larger pieces of furniture.

JOHN: No.

In fact, you need them.

CHRISTINE: You do need it in this room.

JOHN: Great bedroom.

CHRISTINE: And you also have this double-sided fireplace to enjoy on this side, and in this lovely sitting area.

JOHN: That's right.

Well, this leads us right into the bath.

CHRISTINE: You know what I like?

You know, 'cause everybody likes a double vanity.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: Which I do, too.

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: But I like this even better, because you have your own sink... JOHN: Yep.

CHRISTINE: And somebody else could have their own sink.

JOHN: Right on.

CHRISTINE: And a corner tub.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: Wow.

JOHN: And walk in shower.

CHRISTINE: No problem about space in this bathroom.

JOHN: Uh, no.

That was our final room, I think, in the house.

VICKY: So what did you think of house number two?

This is our mid-range house.

CHRISTINE: Well, when you walk in and you see that foyer and that two-story formal living room... VICKY: Yes.

CHRISTINE: It's really spectacular.

JOHN: You know what caught my attention?

Golf carts.

VICKY: The golf carts.

This view is amazing, right?

JOHN: Spectacular.

VICKY: Yes.

So overall, any other parts of the house that really wowed you?

CHRISTINE: Well, I think just the overall size.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: I mean, if you wanted to entertain like, 50 friends, there's plenty of room to do that.

VICKY: And what about that owner's suite?

What did you think of that?

CHRISTINE: Oh.

JOHN: It's mammoth.

VICKY: I know.

It's amazing.

And then if you wanna relax, watch football, you have the lower level.

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: Oh, yes.

That lower level is incredible.

VICKY: One of the best things about living here is, because it's a large community, you get to enjoy the benefits of the HOA which is $200 a month.

JOHN: Oh, come on.

CHRISTINE: Wow.

VICKY: Yeah, not only do you get to use the resort-style pools, indoor, outdoor tennis courts, and the walking trails... JOHN: Wow.

JOHN: Wow.

CHRISTINE: Wow.

We nicknamed her Flo Jo because she's a beautiful black Sprinter with a big motor and a lot of style, and we thought when we started this business in Loudoun County, we needed to bring luxury to the entire wine education and winery tour experience, so that we can bring a VIP experience to all of our guests.

Over the years, we have seen this place grow from just five or six wineries and maybe one or two breweries, to around 20, 30 of each.

There are so many family wineries here where you actually walk in and you meet the winemaker or the owners.

A lot of the wineries are right next to their vineyards, so you're able to actually see the grapes before they go into the glass.

LACEY: We're here at Stone Tower Winery on Hogback Mountain, which is located just five miles south of downtown Leesburg.

My family's been here for nearly 50 years now.

We started with our first plantings in 2009 and have really grown from there.

We're in these foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and so we have these old soils that really give a minerality and just a true sense of place to the product that we make.

We're making fine wine.

That's our number one goal.

For my family, this has always been home because of the land, the views that we have, and just the natural beauty of it all.

This is a place where we want to be for generations to come, but it's also a place where our community can relax and connect with each other.

They're looking out and seeing exactly where it comes from, and that gives it a special extra something.

RENEE: When I tell people where I live, they're like, "Isn't that just a bunch of people with a lot of money riding horses and eating foie gras?"

And it's like, well, there's that too, but there's a little bit of everything.

(doorbell rings) ♪ ♪ VICKY: Welcome to house number three.

This is the final house today.

CHRISTINE: We are in the country.

In fact, where exactly are we?

VICKY: This is the Lucketts side of Leesburg, but you're still about ten minutes away from all the shopping and the restaurants, and all the conveniences that you would want.

The property is situated on 11 acres, and there's actually no homeowner's association, so you have the freedom to build as you wish.

JOHN: And there's a vineyard right across the way, isn't there?

VICKY: That's right.

That is amazing.

I like how they have this antiqued finish to them.

CHRISTINE: Right.

JOHN: Kind of rustic, but elegant.

CHRISTINE: Exactly.

And then, you know, you put in the, the farmer's sink... JOHN: Gotta have it.

CHRISTINE: With these countertops.

JOHN: Yes.

These countertops have a lot of color and pattern to them.

They, too, match the palette of the rest of the house, with the stone and all the wood.

It's all harmonious.

Let's go check out the next room.

CHRISTINE: Oh, always a must in the country.

A mud room.

JOHN: You know that's right.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: It is beautiful, but this is great.

You have a washer, dryer, another sink.

CHRISTINE: Another sink.

A great storage room.

JOHN: All right, let's go over... CHRISTINE: Okay.

JOHN: And check out our first bedroom.

CHRISTINE: This room is all about this fireplace.

JOHN: And it feels so cozy with these beams above.

CHRISTINE: It just carries the whole theme right through.

JOHN: And I just imagine, snowing outside, having a fire... CHRISTINE: Yeah, that is perfect.

JOHN: With your wine.

'Cause we gotta add wine to that picture.

(laughter) CHRISTINE: Well, let's check out the...

So an en suite that again, just is so cohesive with the rest of the home.

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: You know, you've got these countertops, which again, the tones.

You've got blues and greens.

JOHN: Yeah, kind of greeny.

CHRISTINE: Yeah, that just goes so well with the cabinets.

JOHN: Yeah.

And then that giant, soaking, claw-foot tub, right?

CHRISTINE: That tub looks like it's gonna walk away.

JOHN: It could.

CHRISTINE: It could.

Yeah.

JOHN: Let's go, I guess, to the other side, Tina.

Next room... CHRISTINE: So they're using this as an office, but obviously could be a bedroom.

JOHN: But you can walk out onto the porch.

CHRISTINE: And you have great views of the side yard... JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: And this whole wrap around porch.

JOHN: Well, I wanna check out downstairs.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

Let's go.

JOHN: These stairs don't have a very lodge-y feel.

CHRISTINE: No, but look where they're leading us to?

JOHN: This awesome game room.

Shuffleboard, and then pool.

CHRISTINE: Pool table.

JOHN: Okay, and I think there's a half bath down here.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

JOHN: Oh, no.

It's a full bath, Tina.

CHRISTINE: Oh, and I like what they did with the vanity.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

This certainly looks like a custom tub, doesn't it?

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

Fits that rustic feel.

JOHN: It sure does.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: All right.

CHRISTINE: Okay.

JOHN: Let's travel down here.

CHRISTINE: All right, this is a great space to have down here.

JOHN: Perfect for guests.

CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: Tina, take a look at the ginormous door.

CHRISTINE: Right.

JOHN: Take a look at these keys.

Which key is it?

I forget.

CHRISTINE: Oh, my Gosh.

JOHN: Is it this one?

I don't know.

CHRISTINE: These keys alone probably weigh 50 pounds.

JOHN: That is one heavy gate, leading us into the wine room.

And boy did they do a good job making it look like a wine cellar.

CHRISTINE: Look at the tin ceiling, right?

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: A chandelier.

JOHN: Yeah.

And how about these carved shelves.

Wow!

CHRISTINE: All right, well, we've seen so much already.

JOHN: Yep.

CHRISTINE: And you know what?

We have another floor to go.

JOHN: Let's go check upstairs.

CHRISTINE: All right.

JOHN: And look at these stairs.

CHRISTINE: Oh, I know.

JOHN: I'm thinking they just split some logs and created stairs.

CHRISTINE: Oh, I think that's what they did, but can we just pause here for a moment... JOHN: Yes.

CHRISTINE: And just take in this whole area?

When we first walked in... JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: I didn't really notice that light.

JOHN: Me, neither.

And against all the hard, you know, stone, and the wood, it's a really good light.

All right.

CHRISTINE: Well, let's keep going up.

JOHN: Check.

Up we go.

CHRISTINE: This is probably the space where you would really spend a lot of your time.

What better place to chill when you've got beautiful views?

Look at the stained glass.

JOHN: Yes.

You know what would make this perfect?

A wet bar.

CHRISTINE: Mm, well you know what would make this bedroom perfect?

JOHN: Uh, nothing?

CHRISTINE: Exactly.

I agree.

This room is perfect just the way it is.

JOHN: And this is my favorite feature right here.

CHRISTINE: Oh.

JOHN: Pine walls... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.

JOHN: High ceilings.

Luxury lodge.

And, you know, luxury lodges have cedar closets.

CHRISTINE: A must.

JOHN: And full bath.

CHRISTINE: All right.

So I'm just gonna say, I've never seen a picture window like that in the shower.

JOHN: It's a really cool window.

CHRISTINE: All right, so let's travel on down.

All right, last room.

JOHN: Yes, and it looks very familiar.

CHRISTINE: Actually, I think it mirrors the one we were just in.

JOHN: Okay, well that concludes our tour and our stay at the lodge.

I don't know what time check out is.

CHRISTINE: Well, hopefully it's a late check out.

JOHN: Okay, let's go see.

(laughs) CHRISTINE: Hey.

VICKY: Hi, so what did you guys think?

Was this amazing?

CHRISTINE: When you said the word custom, that is the word of the day on this home.

JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: You walk in, and you see the big, beautiful fireplace.

JOHN: Yeah.

CHRISTINE: You see the custom stairway.

And then, you know, when we were up in the foyer, you know, that great sitting area... JOHN: Mm-hmm.

CHRISTINE: That I could see you probably spending a lot of time in.

JOHN: I would.

CHRISTINE: The stained glass windows, you know?

VICKY: Yes.

CHRISTINE: Between the beams, the walls.

Everything just works together so nicely.

JOHN: It was rustic, but it was refined.

VICKY: It is.

Now what'd you guys think about the wine room downstairs?

CHRISTINE: If you're in wine country, I guess it only makes sense that you have a wine cellar.

JOHN: It's mandatory when you're here, yeah.

VICKY: Exactly.

CHRISTINE: And can we just talk about this whole back area?

VICKY: It's an incredible setting.

You have this beautiful treed background and pond.

It's really a very relaxed, beautiful, very private lifestyle.

It's got four bedrooms, five bathrooms, 4,000 square feet, built in 2014.

It's got the detached garage, 11 acres, and completely custom built.

CHRISTINE: Unfortunately I have to go first, and I would have to say this is one of the toughest.

JOHN: I agree.

CHRISTINE: So I'm going to say 1.6.

VICKY: Okay.

JOHN: I'm going to give you a price of 1.7.

VICKY: Okay.

JOHN: I am...

It's a very hard house to guess.

VICKY: Okay.

So the actual list price of this home is $2 million.

JOHN: Wow.

CHRISTINE: Okay, all right.

VICKY: And you both did great.

This was a tough one.

JOHN: But I still won.

CHRISTINE: Yes.

VICKY: Well, this has been so much fun.

I've really enjoyed showing you these three homes in Leesburg, and now it's time to unwind and relax.

I want to take you to Stone Tower Winery for a glass of wine.

HAYDEE: It's a very small community, so everyone knows everyone else.

TRACI: Everybody you talk to or you know here has some sort of connection to horses and riding.

EDWARD: If you lived here, you'd know that living downtown means you can sneak out to some really great restaurants.

CALEB: You can go to Tusky's, and you can go to Blue Ridge Grill.

Both of them have excellent food.

LACEY: If you lived here, you would know to go to Leesburg Diner for the best breakfast in town.
