House Speaker David Osborne and Senate President Robert Stivers said they agree with some of the governor's ideas.
Need to be convinced of others and the rest are nonstarters.
The governor's plan to provide universal pre-K for all of the state's four year olds is likely dead on arrival.
But continued support for rebuilding efforts of storm ravaged parts of Kentucky and infrastructure are ideas they can back.
To what extent, though, is uncertain.
We have had significant conversations about it for the last couple of years.
We've had a number of presentations at our caucus retreats, talked about it extensively amongst our caucus and about other professionals in the the child care profession, child care space.
And I just don't believe that there is a tremendous amount of support for it in our in our chamber.
Mr. President, I'll ask you the same question.
And your caucus.
Where does universal pre-K fall out?
Well, I'm going to agree with the speaker on this.
I think we generally do.
We agree on most things.
I think there is a strong desire to look at how we create daycare and for the working class people.
The sentiment of doing universal pre-K is probably not that strong, but I think there is a strong sentiment and feeling in both chambers to do something to help those individuals get back into the workforce.
You're about not on a school year looking at summer, looking at the second shifters, looking at the weekend workers.
There is a strong argument there.
Maybe there could be some consensus reached on how we deal with providing quality daycare.
Democratic leaders in the House and Senate say bolstering education is the best way to pave a better road to prosperity for more Kentuckians.
They urge their Republican colleagues to seize the opportunity to make bold investment in the future.
And I'm not expecting everything that the governor put on the table to happen.
But I will point out that everything he put on the table is doable.
And I want to point out that we have an unprecedented opportunity now to address issues that we've delayed investment in for years, such as in education.
And we're functioning out of the 2007 level by some investigations of that type of investment.
But now we're in an unprecedented position of having resources, an economy that's booming.
We have investments in various parts of Kentucky in terms of job creation.
It's already demonstrated a 52,000 that we already have.
We have the ability to do things.
We better not mess this up.
We have my full conversation with the Democratic and Republican legislative leaders from last night and the governor speech in its entirety online on demand at K dot Energy.
