I'm your host, Garbanzo Gordon, and I am so excited to spend with you today.
And I hope you're all ready, because we're really going to put that GI tract through its paces.
Now, let's get bent, This is interesting.
Apparently, nitrogen is the most commonly deficient plant nutrient in soils.
Well, thank God for beans.
Yeah.
Oh, speaking of which, this is the ability for beans and other legumes to fix nitrogen in the soil.
Is due to their roots being infected by a special kind of bacteria.
So would that be considered mutualism?
Yeah, it actually says that right here.
The legume rhizosphere symbiosis is a form of mutualism.

Oh, it's an article about the three sisters that the scientist wrote for Legume Life magazine.
Now, let's untwist our tendrils, and we're going to shoot straight up into a beautiful, poor bean stretch.

Or better yet, for all my three sisters fans out there, a corn stalk.

It's only once the legume plant dies that the majority of its nitrogen is released into the surrounding soil to be used by other plants and and bend and bend and bend and bend.
Is that supposed to be happening, Brandon?
Yeah.
Beam bending is proven to clear out excess gas created by eating ultra processed foods that have a negative impact on gut health.

Now, doesn't that just feel so much better?
All right.
Let's give our systems a little break and go right down into laying the dough.
Boom.
Isn't that lovely?
And remember all those ultra processed foods designed to make us keep eating them.
Actually have the same devastating effect on our gut flora as synthetic fertilizers have on soil microbes.
Wait, is that true to synthetic verde?
Oh my God.
Well, two synthetic fertilizers really damage soil microbes.
Oh, yeah.
Garbanzo.
Gordon says plants actually need a wide array of nutrients to grow properly.
And all those tiny organisms that we call microbes are responsible for converting those nutrients in the soil into the specific forms plants need for optimal growth.
But synthetic fertilizers, while only providing a few of those nutrients, actually kill off the native soil microbes, leaving soils unhealthy and sometimes even dead.
Oh, that's not good.
And in the same way that the diversity of our gut microbes is directly related to our health, soil health is directly related to the microbial diversity present within it.
Oh, so does growing plants with synthetic fertilizers adversely affect their nutritional density?
Oh, abso lutely.
Due to the prolonged use of synthetic fertilizers, the plants we eat today can have almost 40% less vitamins and minerals than they did just half a century ago.
That's alarming.
Ooh, I know.
Garbanzo.
Gordon says the greater microbial diversity in his soil, the greater nutrient density in the plants that grow in it, and the greater nutrition we can obtain by eating those plants.
Because soil health is human health and healthy soil is alive.
Wow.
So Garbanzo Gordon is a plant and soil expert.
Yeah, and a primitive archery enthusiast.
Weird.
But his specialty is legumes.
