Community development and advocacy, and tackling the root causes of violence.
Advocates say the priorities outlined in the plan come out of conversations with the community.
This is our voice.
This is the community's voice.
When a community says we need more accessible community centers, that's what the community is saying.
Not just us.
When the community is saying, okay, one Lexington, we hear you, but we need more survivor organizations.
That's leading the fight.
Okay, so how can we as city government invest in those survivor live organizations?
And so there's so many things that came out of this strategic plan.
We are excited to partner with you, the community, to make those things happen.
One of our best conversations we had in your city and most cities we go to is with young folks, especially young folks who are survivors of gun violence, who have been impacted, who have witnessed it, who have lost loved ones to gun violence, and listening to how they see this work and how they see your city.
Right.
They see lots of opportunity in this city, but don't see that they're connected to that opportunity.
Right?
So they're asking for us and you all who live in Lexington, to make sure that they have access to opportunities so that they can live in cities.
United also announced it was giving $40,000 in grants to help Lexington implement the updated One Lexington Strategic Plan.
