Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(country guitar music) - A friend of mine, Dennis Herbert, wrote the song.
- Yeah, so Dennis Herbert is kind of the guy at the farm stand in the opening of the movie.
- The hippie.
- The hippie, and yeah, we gave him a name, I think we called him Leaf or something.
- Wake up!
Wake up!
- Who goes after the director and knocks on the window of the car and says, you know, like, "Wake up, wake up!
Your future's leaving soon," which is actually a line from the song in the, you know, in the song.
- I mean, Dennis and I have been playing music together for many years, and he's sort of like, built up this whole narrative with a lot of his songs that are kind of based on me and Hazel, who's our spirit animal of the band, who people can see in "Lost in Time."
Hazel's the ram, who I wear on my body in the film.
And then I also wear Hazel at a lot of the shows.
Some of the scenes also happened at Dennis's, the clock shop was at Dennis's and the scene outside where everybody's kind of looking like they're- - Yeah, turning their heads.
And we borrowed clocks from everybody we knew.
We had like 60 clocks, right?
50, 60 clocks, they were all tagged on the back, who owned what.
And we bought like, a handful of them but mostly we just borrowed all these antique clocks from people we knew, we were asking for clocks for months.
(chuckles) I take like, all these attention to details like, pretty seriously, even if the things are only on screen for like a second or two.
And people are like, "why'd you just like, build out that whole clock room with like, 60 clocks?
We only stayed there for like, two seconds?"
And I'm like, "because if it wasn't like that you would notice that it was, you know, empty, the room was empty."
(laughs) - A lot of Dennis's songs have this feeling of suspense and I think of the song as very angsty.
And I think it's that feeling of suspense though, that makes it work.
And it makes you wanna kind of, it's cinematic, you know?
(guitar music ends)
