My name is Lise Hanson.
I teach music at the Village Charter School in Boise.
I think that kids need to be exposed to beauty, and I think they need to learn how to create it themselves.
And the ukulele is a really easy access instrument for that.
So the first day I took the ukulele is into the kindergarten class, and I played this little song that we used to tune, {PLUCKS UKULELE} and a little boy who never said anything piped up and said, “That's Peg Plus Cat!” And I said, “What?” So he explained what it was, and I went home and did some research and discovered Peg Plus Cat.
It's all about solving problems and calming down and using music.
And I just fell in love with the show.
I have always loved to teach, but when I ended up teaching music, I really found this is where I was meant to be.
And I love teaching children to play music and to sing and to feel good about doing it.
And that's my Idaho Public Television story.
