I was living in Long Beach and I had a career in advertising, but I'd, a few years back, kinda fallen in love with country music.

There's also the sort of singer-songwriter Troubadour era folks like James Taylor, and Eagles, Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

♪♪ >> Sam: I started writing the song, "Ghost Town," you know, like, I came home to Poway one Thanksgiving, and my mom had left--kinda left my dad, left the family.
And I was spending time with my dad at our home, but without my mom there, without my siblings there, it just felt so strange.
So, "Ghost Town," obviously is simply a metaphor for that thing when you go back to a place, you revisit a place where things look mostly the same but feel very, very different.
So, that was the impetus for writing that song, and then after that, my mom actually passed away and it was the first song that I finished after my mom passed away.
So, it's a heavy subject, but it is something, you know, personal to me and I'm happy to share it with people.
And fortunately, a lot of people have come up to me and said that the song means a lot to them because they've maybe gone through a similar situation, so those are nice moments when people are connecting with your music in that way.
