I'm your host, Brittany Sweeney.
A unique and fun event recently offered a boost of confidence to a group of kids in transitional housing.
The nanny loft teamed up with sweet and sassy kids, the lawn and the sixth Street shelter in Allentown to throw a surprise party.
Huge smiles came across the faces of the children at sweet and Sassy kids salon.
As those who work there welcome them with songs and shaking pompoms while it's all part of a surprise birthday party for kids in transitional housing.
She's never been anywhere like this.
She is extremely excited.
Lackawanna Golden and Monique Hartwell have little girls who are pampered at the party.
I'm more grateful more than anything, to be able to experience this with them and have the opportunity to be able to come out on my day off and see my daughter smile.
I wanted some braids straight down.
The celebration is hosted by the nanny loft and sweet and sassy in Center Valley.
For the youngsters whose families are receiving help for the Sixth Street Shelter in Allentown, Julia Copage is the event coordinator and founder of the Nanny Loft, a babysitting service in the Lehigh Valley.
So a lot of our families are local professionals, doctors in the community that need full time or part time consistent quality care.
And our vision is to also provide that same consistent care and provide respite for our families that essentially cannot afford high quality care.
The Nanny Loft Foundation has been around for six years and periods.
Oakley hosts events with other local businesses to offer respite to parents who may not often receive it.
I'm an owner that loves to get involved in the community and wants to give back, So we decided to work with the shelter this year and give the kids that maybe can't do it at home.
A full birthday party.
The party offered little guests a chance to play, dress up, get their hair and nails done and complete crafts.
They love the idea.
All of the families in the program with young children were invited to the spa party with about 18 families in attendance.
Did you have a beautiful princess right now?
Why did you pick that one?
Because I love and I love that different kind.
The street shelter provides homes for poor families who are experiencing homelessness through no fault of their own.
Michelle Weisman is the shelter development officer.
We have a lot of different families who come in different diversities, different educational backgrounds, and we provide them the resources that they need to succeed so that they can be self-sufficient moving forward.
And this is where I look.
Want a golden found stability and a career path on the program offered through the shelter.
All right.
Let's help me financially help my daughter, because she has now she finally has her own room, you know, and we got comfortable and we're really comfortable there.
Just helps so much.
And it's just like, again, I'm so grateful.
This is my kitchen.
Earlier this year, Golden, who invited us into her home, found herself in a difficult family situation.
They had no room for me, so I ended up homeless for a few months, struggling.
I had to put my daughter in a situation where she was with her father for a little bit.
She says the hardest part was being separated from her little girl.
It was a real struggle.
But then she says, a miracle happened.
And this is my living room.
So cute and cozy.
Are you loving it here?
Yes, very much.
He received a call from the shelter that changed her life.
She was accepted into one of their programs that offers housing for a year.
This is the bathroom.
While residents work and go to school daughter's room.
Most importantly, she was able to reunite with Aliyah and provide the seven year old with her own bedroom for the very first time.
She's really my best friend.
So having us together now, it's just it's more.
But it's amazing.
It just feels great.
Now, once she's finished school, Gordon plans to open up her own cupcake business and continue to provide Aliya with new opportunities like the one in Sassy.
Back at the party, things wrapped up with a large cake.
Vineyards and, of course, a dance party.
The kids have the biggest smiles on their face.
I feel good.
This was the second time this event was held.
In addition to the staff at the salon The Nanny Love and Sixth Street Shelter, students from a sorority at Moravian College pitched in as well.
That will do it for this edition of Living in the Lehigh Valley.
I'm Brittany Sweeney.
Hoping you stay happy and healthy.
